Stone cooked filet hit the spot.
    Lee P.

As one of the last open restaurants on a Sunday evening in the touristy area of Eat Street, we had low expectations. Fortunately, both our meals were very good. I had the cook-it-yourself-on-a-stone filet mignon with roasted potatoes and a Caesar salad. The cook did a great job, if I do say so myself, though he was a bit sore from a third day of downhill mountain biking, which made him slightly cranky. The meat was good quality and cooked pretty quickly when cut into thin slices on the 400 degree stone. It came with two steak sauces but I gave no idea why anyone would put a sauce on quality piece of meat, especially one with good seasoning, which this one had. The salad and potatoes were likewise flavorful and well prepared. My Chinese girlfriend had a rather pedestrian looking fried rice but enjoyed it very much...and she is a stickler for quality Asian food. The meals came quickly and with a smile, though, fortunately for us, they were not very busy at the time. Overall a solid choice when dining in Rotorua.

    Cheese burger and beer flight
    Tara K.

Stopped in for dinner after a long drive from Wellington. So happy we chose this restaurant over the many choices in Rotorua. Enjoyed a cheese burger, dressed with fresh slaw and bacon that had a fabulous smoky flavor, served with a side of fries. The service was quick and friendly. My beer flight was served perfectly chilled. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Amazing Beef Wellingtons and fried cauliflower We came here after a long day of ziplining and luging. We have always wanted to try beef wellington and we were highly impressed. We also had a couple of drinks and some popcorn cauliflower. All of the food was super delicious. The staff was very good as well. I would def recommend visiting Eat Streat for CBK.

Can't speak for the beer but the WiFi was solid and there is an extensive menu for any part of the day. The WiFi was so good I came back a few times as I stayed at the Regent a block away that had terrible WiFi. The taco assortment for lunch was nice, plenty to eat, but the fish in the fish taco spent more time in the freezer than the sea.

Roast beef sandwich with bacon jam on the side

Disappointed in the service and the food. We waited about 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. By then we had helped ourselves to the menus. The waitress didn't have many recommendations in terms of drinks. We ordered the smoked salmon dip, wagyu beef burger and roast beef sandwich. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of dip given for the appetizer. The entrees, however, did not meet our expectations. The wagyu beef did not taste any different than a regular burger. The patty was also half the size of the bun. The roast beef was supposed to be tender according to the description, however, we received roast beef that was grisly and chewy. The food also didn't arrive hot. Fries were a little stale. We voiced our opinion about the roast beef sandwich, but she didn't offer to make it any better. Overall, not impressed with anything about this restaurant. I would not recommend this restaurant.

Rotorua was our first stop here on our honeymoon and we wanted to drink and eat some fish and chips. The bar serves a lot of the tourists that come through, and it's waiting staff respectful and polite. Fish and chips was good and the Sampler beers were hoppy. Cheers!!!

After entirely too many greasy meals in Rotorua, I'm so glad I found CBK. Lovely outdoor seating and you can hear some of the live music they have going a few doors down. I ordered beef and lamb on the stone grill which you cook yourself. Both were delicious. The wedge salad was a bit disappointing but the duck fat potatoes made up for it.

Food was good. But the ambiance and service was just not welcoming. A smile might have warmed the place up.

Luckily, The Redboubt was open and was a nice warm place to kill an hour, have amazing snacks, and a few drinks. The Redoubt is located right at the I-SITE where you meet the bus, so you definitely can't miss it. It's decorated in all Lord of the Rings decor, down to the Hobbit hole style doorways/windows, getting you totally ready to get immersed in the journey you're about to take. We ordered a few beers to start and they arrived cold and crisp - definitely refreshing for a fun day in Hobbiton! Food-wise, we ordered the 3 Slider Selection, and picked the chicken, cranberry, burry, and brie sliders. They were super tasty and actually pretty large for "sliders" - and it even came with a small side of fries. We also shared the Redoubt's Famous Seafood Chowder, and it was super warming and hearty, but not too filling as it's seafood and not a heavier meaty base. With the delish food, awesome ambiance, and plentiful drinks - I definitely recommend stopping here if you're in Matamata for a Lord of the Rings tour, or for any other reason!

I simply ordered a two meat combo dinner for $16.50 NZD, and was pretty much satisfied. Being famished after visiting the Waitomo Caves and Hobbiton, I needed some meat! The manager welcomed us and served up some thick slices of roasted pork, with the appropriate salty crispy pig skin, and lamb. It sat on top of potatoes, pumpkin, and peas. Applesauce and a lemon glaze gravy on the side. Maybe it was a "so hungry, it tastes so damn good" feeling, but it wasn't. The meat was well roasted, some fatty, and tender. Probably seasoned only with salt, which was good enough to me. Items on the menu: ~ Roast Dinner Plates (beef, pork, chicken, lamb, or vegetarian). ~ Southern Fried Chicken Combos. Though I've seen better looking chicken elsewhere. ~ Rolls served up banh mi style, or meat in a regular sandwich. ~ Burgers with your choice of meat. ~ Fish and chips, hot dogs. ~ Milkshakes and cheese cake. Inside dining: ~ Nothing special, just a few tables. Normally, I'd give a place like this a three star rating, but with the little choices you have in the area I'm generously giving a fourth star. And with seeing people coming and going, it appears to be a hit with the locals.

Burger Fuel is a burger chain in New Zealand with 1 store in Sydney and some in the Middle East. They try their best to offer "healthier" and fresher burgers. And yes, their burgers are pretty tasty. This burger joint is modernly decorated and bright inside. There's plenty of seating for a large or small group. If you're not a burger person, they have plenty of sides from sweet potato fries and milkshakes, even with soy milk! I chose a Vegan V-Dub sandwich: Pumpkin, carrot, chickpea and ginger pattie, beetroot, salad, relish and an aioli sauce. Yum!!! I love me a good veggie burger. I washed it all down with a dairy free caramel mylk-shake. Sigh, I wish the US had more burger places like Burger Fuel, though I know food tastes better outside of the US because of all the additives and crap they put in our food. I guess I will have to satiate my burger craving by trying to re-create BF's V-Dub. Do you think they'll give me the recipe?!

I'd say it's a big step up from fast food but not as fancy (or as expensive) as the "gourmet" burger. I wanted to try a chicken burger but their options were super limited and they all came with bacon. The point was to go with just chicken for my meat. But oh well. After we put in our order we noticed a sign on the table advertising what looked like the limited edition burger which sounded amazing: chicken breast with creamed corn and melted cheese. Yum!! I ran up to the counter right away and asked to change my order but our burgers were already being made. Which I guess is a good thing when your food is prepared right away. Plus we were pretty hungry so we decided just to eat our original orders. The burgers were great. We ordered the Bio Fuel which basically was all about the fried egg. I highly recommend this burger especially because it was delicious!
