It was 9:00pm by the time we got into Rotorua and fully settled into our hotel...there aren't a lot of good food options in this city after 9:00pm! Luckily Pig and Whistle's kitchen stays open until 10, or even later according to the friendly staff. Is the best food in New Zealand? No, but its pretty darn good, and with the proper prices to match. $24 Lamb Burger w/Salad...a giant burger with two lamb meats patties with some sort of secret sweet relish sauce that made it magic. Side salad was huge too! $24 Moroccan Lamb Sandwich...roasted lamb slices with a light seasoning of Moroccan spices, not as good as the burger, but still delicious. This is a very a chill casual pub atmosphere with free live music on the weekends. Alcohol is reasonably priced, as is most of New Zealand...Enjoy!

I tried my first lamb burger - tender, juicy, and delicious. Loved the local hard cider and ambience. Thanks for letting me pretend I understand rugby!

This was my favorite restaurant while in New Zealand. Prices are around $10-$20 USD. The portions are HUUUUGE. (Insert GIF of Trump's Hands extending outwards). One of the top items here is the lamb salad. I had a few bites of it and definitely hits the travelers diet as it's a large salad and plenty of juicy lamb pieces. Another item that a friend ordered was fish and chips. There plate was very generous to the point it was a battle to finish. The lamb burger is a decent burger, but nothing to call home about. I got the lamb rump steak, and it was extremely tasty. The lamb is cooked perfectly medium rare (or to your liking) and served with roasted veg and tasty sauce. This is a definite "must stop" if you are having dinner in Rotorua. Pro-Tip: BRING YOUR PASSPORT. You cannot get in with a drivers license.

They have gluten-free options on the main menu. I had the GF Organic Turkish Spiced Chicken, it was delicious and filling. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed this place much better than restaurant down the way, but that's for another review. It's an interesting concept where the customers need to order food and drinks at the bar. It increases efficiency, but it also requires customers to leave their party and stand in line to order more drinks. Hence, we did not give it 5 stars. The food was great. I had the lamb salad. There was a very good amount of lamb on the salad. The lamb burger was also tasty. Their serving sizes are large and may even be shareable depending on how hungry you are. We ended the night with the Banoffee dessert (banana & toffee). I enjoyed it.

The food was great and the service was first rate. I had the steak, ale, and mushroom pie and my wife had the fish and chips.

Nice little pub with a huge tree out front. We stopped here for local craft beer a couple of times and they have a great selection of those.

Very kind service, food is good but not great. Atmosphere is good. They didn't offer any Non-Alcoholic wine, only NA beer , no Mocktails

We were hungry and walking through the dark streets looking for anything that might be open and also have gluten free options for me. A few streets down from us we heard music and saw neon lights flickering in the distance. Like unsuspecting deep sea fish we felt magnetized to the sparkly lights in the dark of night, luckily for us that once we reached them we were the ones doing the eating! This restaurant is located on a really cool street partially covered by a neon light canopy, sort of like going into a spaceship. We saw the menu of Brew Craft and were sold. The inside has a nice intimate atmosphere with low lighting with a casual gastropub design. In addition to a large selection of brews, they also have an upscale dining menu with tons of options to choose from. Our server was very friendly and helpful and pointed out their many gf options designated on the menu including unconventional items like chicken wings, chicken tenders, and pizzas. We decided to share the gf chicken wing appetizer and the slow roasted lamb shank main. Both were incredible. The chicken wings were crispy and saucy and kept me going back for more. The lamb shank was fall off the bone tender with a delicious mashed potato. We wanted to order so much more, but as we were staying in a hotel and couldn't take leftovers home with us, we settled with just being full instead of indulging to the state of miserable. It was absolutely delicious though and definitely recommended for anyone who's celiac and looking for a safe gf place to grab some not so casual eats in a relaxed chill environment.

The meals are all prepared, plated out the back in a chiller, they sear the meat and send it out. The mashed potatoes ect have a crust shell on them. We had; Shrimp cocktail; should've called it a sauce cocktail, there was more sauce than anything else. Pork belly; it was all fat and skin. I get this meal everywhere all over the world and this was the worst and most expensive. Steak. Why ask how you would like it cooked if your just going to do it rare. Kids go Mac cheese, Cheerios and bbq bburger, they had no complaints, but again, all pre-prepared meals warmed up. Kids Cocktails were the only reason the got any stars. This meal cost almost $200 for 3 little kids and two adults. For $36 steaks and pork belly they were crap. Everywhere is better than this. I hate giving bad reviews but I just don't want anyone else to have a bad experience here.

We came around 2:30pm on a Monday and it was busy. It's a typical Irish pub. They have a lunch special ($12.50 NZD) with 9 options. Sadly, they'd already run out of the lasagna & salad. The main menu is split into starters, light meals & snacks, gourmet burgers & sandwiches, mains, salads, vegetarian meals, kids meals and desserts. - Clam chowder ($12.50 NZD) - B wasn't feeling well so she opted for a soup. She said the clam chowder broth was sweeter than normal but had a good amount of seafood in it. - Ham, cheese & tomato toasted sandwich ($12.50 NZD) - served with fries. Fries were boring and barely crispy. My dad got his sandwich without cheese. It looked minuscule. - BLT Baguette ($12.50 NZD) - served with chicken schnitzel. The bacon was more like a slab of dry ham; took out half of it. It was decent but nothing more than that. I could have ate another. Food wise, go elsewhere. Best to come here for just drinks and to catch whatever sport you fancy watching.
