I'm really surprised that The Botanist at Media City hasn't been reviewed until now, the…read morerestauraunt is stunning in its' unique and innovative style decor which although might appear maverick and a little hard to find a server as it consisted of small unique open rooms with different parts of decor combining old signs, leaves and even a grand piano, The Botanist have got the vibe very well-meaning you can call in for a romantic meal, a family meal or even a quick lunch by yourself or a drink with friends. I think they do that better here than their other branches, especially compared to their branch in the city centre which is fine, albeit I don't really like it and the difference between this one here at Media City and the Deansgate branch is pretty much night and day. It is pretty central to the other restaurants and TV studios being apart of Dock 10, it is in a stretch of modern restaurants which includes Wagamama, Prezzo and Pret A Manger but as soon as you enter through an automatic door, the vibe changes to a greeny Botanist style vibe and it still does feel pretty good as you walk up the steps or go into the lift. The lift is a little outdated as it is a service lift which you have to physically keep the button pressed (I mean come on, I don't understand that) and the door basically swings open right away meaning you have no time to move before the door whacks you, which would be uncomfortable for a wheelchair user especially a manual chair as you don't have the time to move, perhaps adding a delay on the door or it opening sideways or backwards rather than coming out would have made much more sense. The food pricing is competitive made more reasonable by an ongoing promotion where they offer 40% off food throughout January which is a pretty good saving, supported by the fact The New World (the company that owns the restauraunt) has a loyalty scheme where you receive 5% of your purchase back onto a card which you can use off a future bill and you can use both promotions in conjunction with each other. For my food, I ordered the Chicken and Chorizo Hanging Kebab which is supposed to come with "properly seasoned chips", the menu and prices were the same as to any location with "NG" to mark the gluten-free products which was pretty handy. My food was pretty good, although one piece of chorizo strangely was so hard I couldn't even cut into it which was strange considering the rest of it was fine (I also found the red peppers to be a little hard), but the chicken was good quality even though it might have had slightly too much of the glaze on and I did pretty much enjoy my dish apart from the few minor flaws. The biggest issue, however, was with the "properly-seasoned chips" as they weren't seasoned at all, they were bland as hell and although after I seasoned them they were good, I'm lost for words at the fact the menu advertised them as "properly-seasoned" when they hadn't been seasoned at all. The staff seemed pretty nice, they did appear to be slightly understaffed and due to the construction and layout of the restauraunt (which looked good) it did have its flaws, the opportunity cost if you will was how hard it was to find and signal a server, they even had a small glass balcony style seating area which allowed you to look onto the Media City river and gardens which was pretty nice, the layout is complicated and that made it hard to get a server. I do feel the server tried, however, she did try to take my plate away while I was still eating before waiting for me to respond saying "I'm not finished yet" - perhaps a little too eager! Unlike the Manchester Deansgate store, they don't add a £1 charitable donation onto the bill or at least they didn't on this occasion. This is something I'm against and always will be, promote the charity however you want within reason but donations should be optional and I'm glad this branch could see sense, even if the others can't. One of my favourite locations of The Botanist, apart from a few minor flaws with the food, I was pretty much impressed and it did certainly offer value for money with 40% off, and even without that, it was competitive for the area. I do feel the lift improvements are a must for safety reasons and making sure the staff remain helpful, but not too eager to the point they're taking plates away mid-sentence, without waiting for a customer's response to say they actually haven't finished eating. 4*

Second, when we went to the buffet, the scruffy guy with tattoos and a beard serving us was extremely rude. He refused to listen, tossing Yorkshire pudding and sausages on the plate without my input. I asked him for some well-cooked roast beef, an end maybe, because I do not like rare meat, but he just started slicing the red meat and throwing it on my plate. I told him Ï don't like rare beef¨ several times, but he kept insisting that it was not rare as if I could not see the red meat with my own eyes. Third, I contacted the manager, but she only placated me despite my complaints. That is no way to talk to or treat a customer who is unhappy with something or someone. It was obvious she couldn't care less. Fourth, all of the meat was very dry, the mashed potatoes far too dry and tasteless, and the stuffing equally as bland. Finally, our server was the only positive experience during our meal. She was very kind and attentive. Her manager could take some pointers from her on how to treat customers. Really cool Chorlton map on the wall, wild flowers on the table, and moss green and cream colour scheme. The menu is concise and the Sunday lunch options are straightforward - chicken, beef or lamb, with all the trimmings, for £13. Can't fault the dish that came out. Fluffy Yorkshires, pink beef, thick and rich gravy, and chunky roasts. Lots of veg too, and big portions! My boyfriend really enjoyed the lamb too. Would be interested to return for their a la carts menu one day, but very impressed with this meal :)

Oh dear! What a…read moredisappointing experience we had this Sunday when we decided to go to the Chorlton Green Brasserie over our usual choice of the Parlour. After having received a recommendation to check it out and with step-mum and friend to entertain, we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try something new... First off the ambience - even though it was busy when we arrived at 1230, the overall feeling was like sitting in a morgue within 30mins with very little going on, the overall feeling of the brasserie feeling very clinical and not the relaxed setting you want for a warm Sunday lunch. Next was the food which was beyond dreadful. We all had roasts, 3 beef and a chicken with veg and Yorkshire pudding. I had my beef rare but to be honest it was closer to mooing than rare, where as my step-mum had hers cooked through but was as dry as anything she says she's ever eaten. The vegetables were so undercooked that it felt like they'd maybe come out of the ground and straight onto the plate, while the potatoes were so hammered that they were hardly edible. Add burnt Yorkshire puddings and it was one of the worst Sunday lunches I can ever remember (and to me it's not Sunday without a roast!) My wife and myself shared the fruit fool for dessert which was ok, but we still had to eat this while the scruffy chef shouted over our table and came through to dump his bag on the floor loudly next to us while going to the loo and looked like he was on a speedy mission to get the hell out of work on a sunny Sunday. If only he'd shown the same dedication to cooking our lunch. So with drinks - that's £80 we'll never see again and I can see why it was so quiet while the Parlour had people bursting out of it... If I could I'd give it 1.5 stars for the 2 saving graces - the waiting staff seemed friendly, while it was nice to see a Thornbridge beer on the menu.

If you've never been to a Fayre and Square, you shouldn't be expecting fine dining. In fact, your…read more shouldn't probably even be expecting interesting dining. What you can expect though is simple food, plenty of it, at a cheap price. The reason for the name, and the key driver behind the brand are the deals that they offer. Almost all of the meals are included in some kind of 'two for', 'buy one get one' or just plain 'slightly cheaper' deal. The choices then are pretty uninspired; expect to see plenty of your more traditional pub classics and British fixtures. Think pies, pasta and lots of chicken. Having gone along because we were in the area and particularly hungry, this was the ideal place to go. It's an order at the bar kind of place, and the surroundings are pretty well kept and clean. It's also a huge place, so I wouldn't worry about not getting a table, even when it's busy. The food comes quick and hot, and whilst it won't be winning any prizes it's filling and it's good. In a fit of pure imagination I went with the New York Chicken - three chicken breasts, BBQ sauce and cheese served with chips. Mrs D went for a gigantic gammon steak with (a divisive choice) pinapple. This, I have to say was not finished purely on account of the size. All in all, there's nothing wrong with the Fayre and Square, but you shouldn't expect too much. A word of warning to finish off with. There's a dessert - a type of sundae called the 'All The Fun Of The Fayre Sundae'. It's a sharer. DO NOT HAVE THIS UNLESS THERE ARE FOUR OF YOU. Attempting to eat this between two, or, even worse, alone, will hurt. You'll want to finish it, but you won't be able to - it will defeat you. If you hadn't guessed, it's enormous, and the picture that they include in the menu doesn't have any kind of scale against it. It includes full slices of at least of two other desserts, probably three. Take my word, learn from my pain, share with at least four friends. Or don't - you were warned.
