The menu is continental mixed with some great "spins" on British Classics such as White Bait which is hard to find on any menu these days. During the day they also offer a pix fixe menu which varies dependant on the day you dine. However whether picking from the al a carte or the fix menu you will be assured of a quality of food not always readily associated with an eatery outside a main city & a very reasonable prices. The closed I have had to this quality in the Yorkshire region has to be Brasserie Blanc in Leeds. The two big winners for me though have to be the Sunday lunch set menu which has to be tried to be believed with beef so tender & knife is almost rendered unnecessary & the monthly Jazz & dine night every last Wednesday of the month. For quality dining & very good value for money, an attentive service & a trendy/reto décor you will not be disappointed in visiting The Balcony .

I went on my birthday with my family last year and despite there being 18 of us, we were served quite quickly and the food was delicious. You can always count on seeing someone you know, despite it being a tiny place in the middle of nowhere. There is one bus an hour heading up to Holme, but really you need a car - or good walking shoes! Definitely worth a visit for any locals who haven't been and any visitors to the area who are always made welcome.

Firstly there's a Tapas menu and a Turkish influence on the food (Turkish owner I was told) but the head Chef is Portugese? So I imagine some Portugese flavours seep into the mix at some stage. As we enter into the 16th year of the 21st century I presume innovation in foodie collaborations will lead to more places like this. Onto the food.. The tapas menu is nothing short of fantastic. The breads are baked fresh onsite and are delicious. The Filetitos (strips of lamb fillet I think?), Pan seared Scallops with clams and the Gamberoni Pilpil (prawns) are sensational choices from the tapas menu. It's an old building but the interior has been recently redecorated and was very clean and modern. That said, it was a bit of an unusual contrast, almost like the place couldn't decide whether it wants to be a traditional pub or a trendy wine bar. We had (as always) some tea to drink - we got one pot with three tea bags which is a very good thing! Sparky had a fish finger sandwich which was basically a complete battered fish fillet in a roll; I had a hot steak sandwich which was nice but the steak was lots of small cooked pieces so it was a bit on the dry side. Prices were reasonable but maybe a tad on the high side for what we got. Service was prompt and friendly. And their loos were immaculate!
