    The Published Page Bookshop, Cleburne
    Bruce K.

Thank you, Jim, for the more than pleasant browsing experience and the fantastic conversation. This was an absolutely enjoyable shop and if I wasn't trying to be a bit more judicious in my book purchases (as I'm trying to reduce my current book load at home), I could easily have gone nuts. The Published Page is chock full of tens of thousands of books, most of them well arranged by category with romance novels and science fiction and non-fiction and cookbooks and biographies and way too many more to even try to keep listing them. And if you do want more, they also have movies and LPs and such. The shop isn't nearly big enough for all these books and yes, Jana N., it has that wonderful smell of a proper used book store! The shop is located in downtown Cleburne and is directly opposite the courthouse. There is street parking. And after you've bought your books, maybe walk next door to Mugs and drink a coffee while you get familiar with your new purchase. [Review 15957 overall - 174 in Texas - 1462 of 2021.]

In what I consider a very interesting addition, Paper Leaves also carries a variety of plants. Waxahachie is already well known for its over 200 historic structures in five historic districts. Paper Leaves lies on Water Street to the north of West End Historic District, the largest district with homes built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I love that Paper Leaves is SO Waxahachie in that respect! You step back in time here in high ceilinged book filled rooms with comfy, vintage and antique furniture, and just make yourself at home in such a special place. We entered from the back. The driveway and backyard look newly renovated and there are several parking spaces. The handicapped access to the business is in the rear and is smooth with a concrete ramp. The recent rain and wind has buffeted their lovely backyard, but there are two big areas for outdoor reading. They are shady with lots of chairs and look big enough for book clubs to meet. At the back, there is a small sunroom with lovely stained glass and three high tables and chairs set up for conversation or reading. The windows are enormous in this home with sun streaming in on velvet and brocade and velveteen sofas and chairs. Every room is a treat. A short stack of $1 Books and a (previous) dining room of used books were followed by what had been a parlor with a lovely fireplace and even more books. The foyer has the register and a very vertical staircase. The remaining downstairs room is an inspired Kids Books section with mysterious footprints on the floor and a bathroom! Paper Leaves has been altered to accommodate at least two (that I saw) spacious modern bathrooms with baby changing areas. The terrific front porch, the kind you always wanted, has a big ole swing and seating. There's used books and small exotic plants for sale out front. I saw a used copy of The Goldfinch for $7. The stairs are not steep. I mean, I'm 71 and had a hip replacement not all that long ago and I could make it up and down. Upstairs there's a very sunny reading room and all kinds of interesting paraphernalia on the floor and the walls of the landing. Then there's this astonishing windowed in sunroom. It's a lovely room with plants that have prices but no names. Just "Foliage." Yes, they can look them up. But, I knew a number of them anyway. Bonsai, many cacti and succulents, philodendron. Just gorgeous. All sizes. Hanging Baskets. Climbers. Teeny tiny little bitty plants in pots. Wonderful. I loved Paper Leaves. A very soothing, calming, good vibes place. But books and plants are my jam, so ... I can hardly wait to come back.

I had an hour to spare one afternoon so I stopped by and took a gander. Several different parking locations. My big country truck fit in the small parking lot behind Paperleaves. Upon walking towards the entrance you can't miss the most amazing front porch with a comfy porch swing with big comfy cushions and a couple couches and chairs. I got there just as they opened and was greeted upon entering. I checked out all three rooms of books, one of them children's books. There are several places to sit down and read throughout the house. Go support local and get lost in the beauty that is this place.

Deep Vellum Books is a gem. Let me tell you why…read more Deep Vellum Books is the storefront and headquarters of Deep Vellum Books & Publishing, a nonprofit literary arts organization and the largest publisher of literature in translation in the US (I did not know that!!!!). They stock their own titles as well as a curated selection of literary fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. I visited with my family (dad, stepmom, adult siblings, husband) last weekend, and we spent way more time in the store than we expected to given the store's size. It's not large, but the store is packed with interesting and unusual and harder to find titles. I started to read a book's dusk jacket flap blurb, which led to a conversation about the book with the staff in the shop. (I bought it, I already read it, I loved it.) It's that kind of store - I was walking around, reading blurbs out loud to my family - finding book after book that piqued my interest. I left with a book, my siblings with two or three each, and my dad with at least one. There were six of us, and we bought maybe 8 books. The staff working the day we were visited were incredible, chatting with us about books, telling us about Deep Vellum, and answering our questions about their events. It's clear that people who work at Deep Vellum love books and that always makes shopping at a bookstore more wonderful. (I'm not sure I would have taken home the book I did if I hadn't chatted with a store employee for a few minutes about it - it's a little out of my wheelhouse - but I loved and I'm so glad I picked it up). The store hosts book clubs which sound amazing. I mean how many bookstores offer a "Homer Out Loud" book club that meets to read Homer's epics out loud once a week!? Or has a book club called "Underdogs in Space" that meets once a month to talk about underread sci-fi books?! If you're in Deep Ellum and you love to read anything at all - make your way over to Deep Vellum. It's a great organization and a great bookstore. I couldn't love it more.

The ppl who worked there are incredibly knowledgeable and can offer wonderful suggestions if you tell them the genres/writers you like, no matter how niche! They had a lovely array of diverse books--they featured books, authors, languages, genres, and themes from all backgrounds. There were lots of translated books and books they published there. There's also a book club they host if you're interested in joining--they read underrated sci-fi works and discuss them on site. 12/10 would come back again :)

But if you are looking to browse books (or DVDs or music), this was a good experience. The staff were friendly and willing to give recommendations. I have been to most of the HPB in DFW, and I visit four locations on a regular basis. HPB Ridgmar's selection is on the bigger side, enough that the categories get as specific as "quilting" and "Texas football." (In other words, there are a zillion books here). Honestly, it's a bookworm's delight. I found several books and DVDs from my to-read/to-watch lists. The prices were on par with or beat the same items from other HPB locations. This HPB location also ranks toward the top in cleanliness and organization (books kept in alphabetical order and easy to find despite constant client browsing). The children's area is clean and inviting, with stuffed toys to entice kids in. The store also has a few tables and chairs, which I appreciate more the older I get.

This took place on Thursday, May 14th, 2026 around 7:45 PM…read more I have been a customer of this store for more than ten years. During that time, I have consistently chosen to support this location and have recommended it to others. My most recent visit, however, raised concerns significant enough that I no longer feel comfortable returning. I am low‑income and shop exclusively in the clearance section. On this visit, every item I selected was clearly marked clearance. At checkout, the cashier (name on tag: Ivane) isolated one book and stated, "You have the wrong sticker on that." The statement was delivered in a manner that was abrupt and accusatory. Given that all of my other items were clearance, the implication that I would intentionally misrepresent the price of a single book was both illogical and inappropriate. When I asked for the correct price, the item increased to $39.98. I declined the purchase. As I exited, another employee offered a "bye" that was noticeably forced and insincere. The overall atmosphere -- from the register to the door -- conveyed discomfort rather than customer service. I was wearing a visible Star of David. As a Jewish customer, the tone and conduct of the interaction left me feeling singled out and unwelcome. I cannot speak to anyone's intentions, but the experience did not align with the standards of fairness or respect this store publicly promotes. After more than a decade of loyalty, this experience was not only disappointing but concerning. I will not be returning. Given the seriousness of this incident, I am currently evaluating my options for addressing it further. I would prefer to resolve this directly with management before taking additional steps. I am open to being contacted so this matter can be appropriately addressed.

Well this time I was here to actually buy a BOOK! Thuy and I walked the Square a few nights ago, looking in windows. When we passed Arts & Letters Bookstore, we spotted a book we wanted to buy for our newest nephew. The book? "The Little Puppy (part of My Little Animal Friend)" by Nicola Killen. The clerk who helped us, Brandy, was very friendly and helpful. I asked about local authors, and learned there is a section just for them. In the same area, is books specific to Granbury. Very cool little find. I also bought some Granbury themed stickers for random gifts for random friends. I also joined the free shoppers club (if it has a real name, it slipped my mind), where after spending $100, you get $10 of your next purchase. I now know what people are getting for gifts next year... Books on Granbury, written by Granburians!

Would have to say it was in my top 10 places for comics. Most stores are very small, limited selection. This was not the case here. Value: cover price items for the books for the most part. The condition of the comics was 50/50. A few books I wanted had some heavy edging to them. The spines were not in the best shape but that was just the ones I picked up and looked at. I made an exception for the ones I bought because I try to never go into a store and not buy at least one thing. Always trying to keep the indie comic places around with one book at a time. This section explains why the store got 4 and not 5 from me. Is it worth chancing out? Absolutely! Oh... do not use the address in Yelp. It's wrong. Use Google or Waze.
