My tenancy there started great for the first few years. The building was well maintained, the…read moreservices worked, things were kept up, and then it all stopped about 7 years ago, and everything started getting cancelled, locked up, charged extra for, broken, or left to ruin. You can't take bicycles through the lobby, and they removed the lockups for them. You can't get your mail if you work nights they lock that off (illegal btw, looked into it), the saunas and exercise rooms were gutted, the storage cancelled, the guest parking cancelled, the laudry room contracted out to another company and mostly non-functional, the elevators work poorly, you're likely to get stuck as I have on many occasions, and so on.
I lived there for for a total 14 years and recently was renovicted along with a whole load of others in the same month. I am sure asking for repairs to the water damage caused by their work had something to do with it.
This on the long tail of illegal work on suites, flooding, theft, vandalism, lack of security, mail theft, exercise equipment being taken, lockers being broken in to, and more.
Complaints go unheard, and if forced to do something, the main super behaves like a child with threats and temper tantrums. When I left, I was still waiting for the water damage caused by them working on pipes to be repaired after 6 years.
Bottom line is that the cheif super there is not responsible or reliable, and only his friends get taken care of. The management company decided no more dogs, so he kicked out some people with dogs, and then went and got a dog himself. That should tell you something about the character of the management.
I had unauthorized entry issues, spying issues, mail tampering issues, and I even ended up with my story in the paper after a bandsaw came through my bedroom wall at 7 am missing me by inches, and then a day later having a stranger walk into my bedroom while I was still sleeping to start cutting the wall in my closet.
The building is pretty on the outside, but that's where the property management's maintenance seems to end.
I'm currently still waiting on my damage deposit after moving and the company has not responded to either myself or the RTO. In fact they have little interest in RTO regulations it seems, and have no issues altering the terms of your lease without informing you.
Honestly, the people in the building are great for the most part. Some bad eggs, but everywhere has those. On the whole though, the residents are a great bunch, which is why I'm giving two stars.
There are a couple of part time supers that are pretty nice, but their hands are tied and there is little they can do.
Prospero Realty is running that into the ground and turning it into a high turnaround building with no interest in older tennants, or becoming a long term home. In fact if you're there too long, expect harassment or lack of service.
So, caveat emptor.
Honestly, the changes could be because prospero cut resources to the building, but ask yourself if you really care who's at fault when you have to walk groceries up 20 flights of stairs after a long day at work.
I am very happy after having moved and discovering that there are landlords in the west end that are reasonable, and prepared to help keep the property up and don't hand your keys off to third parties.
I hope that Propero sees this and considers putting more resources toward maintenance and realizes that this is no way to conduct business. There are really, really great people in the tennant roster, however, so that might factor into your decision.
As for the other negative comments, yeah, I had the construction and noise issues at odd times, jackhammering early in the morning, and elevators clanging doors at all hours. So I can corroberate that.
