This was one was a bit of a mixed visit--and I'm a bit bummed because this is a cool pub in a nice location. The drinks on tap have a ton of variety, and the staff are incredibly friendly. To put it bluntly: We'd recommend visiting only for the drinks. The food leaves a lot to be desired, with a menu that perhaps has a bit too much to offer to do anything well. We didn't try a wide array across the menu after my husband got a burger that was a fairly unsuccessful adventure. So if you're stopping in for a drink, you're good! Eating? The first spot where we stopped for food while in London and hangry after a 7 hour flight. Fish and chips were light and not greasy. Very much hit the spot. Lots of beers and ciders to choose from. I knocked a star because they only have Pepsi and not Coke. I was trying to complete my trifecta of Diet Coke, a beer, and water. QR code ordering and a waitress brings you your food and drinks. We stayed at the Dixon Hotel right next to this pub/restaurant while running the London Marathon this year. It's located right next to the Tower Bridge and its a lively spot to grab a bite or meet up with friends for a pint or two of tasty brew. Good beer selection and a large menu of food items to choose from. I loved that they offer a proper British breakfast all day long with the option to get it with an alcoholic drink or soda/non-alcoholic drink. Order at the bar, pay by tap and go, tell them your table number, and a server brings it over to you. I found this process easy and simple. As I was flying solo on this morning I took a high table in the bar area and did some people watching as I enjoyed my meal. Yeah, baked beans with breakast! Sure, it's a chain you can find throughout London, but it offers a decent British dining experience if you're a tourist and not looking for anything fancy. read more

SCW and I stopped into the Pommelers Rest while we were changing hotels in London when it was just a bit too early to check into our nearby hotel. One of the items on our list was fish and chips while in London. They have some and in we went. The interior is quite spacious and you can sit wherever there is an open table. Fortunately for us it was about half full so seating was easy. Ordering has several different ways: download and order view the app (noting your table number), using a qr code on the menu, or as we did, pick what you want and order at the bar. That was easy, got a few pints of beer and small orders of cod fish and chips. Our order was delivered about 10 minutes later (beer just take from the bar). The fish to me was ok, nothing great. Granted I'm mostly plant based so don't take that for what it's worth but it seemed a thing to try in London. The chips were tasty, I finished all of mine. They do offer tartar sauce, ketchup, and BBQ sauce as a self serve option (grab the bottles and bring back to the table). By the time we left the place had filled up with mostly locals it would seem. Always a good sign. I enjoyed the experience but wouldn't go out of my way to come here again. I stopped by for lunch and my burger was decent although my sister's dish was awful (using her exact words). The service was prompt and I thought the prices were reasonable considering the location. The ambiance is pretty laid back and casual. I decided to stop by on a different night for drinks with a friend and it was crowded so it's definitely a local favorite (cheap beer and wine). Needless to say it took us a bit to get service at the bar as there was only two barkeeps and we (ladies) were overlooked each time a server called "who's next". Finally, a true gentlemen gave us a signal to go ahead of him and we placed our order. Dirty pub with very rude and ignorant security and sketchy management. Approx 2 blocks over the Tower Bridge on the South Bank is this restaurant pub. My legs were about to fall off after a long day of walking all over London , visiting cathedrals, bridges and towers. Man... this place was a god send and I found it via Yelp. As a tourist, I try to stay away from eating near touristy places. Kinda seek out where the locals eat or the standard fare. Nothing fancy wanted, just cold beer and decent food. And this was it. For the muricans, this is kinda like, Applebees but kinda better. Mostly cos the beer is much better. And the whole english pub, dark wall paneling, and cosy nooks.. #1... the technology in this rustic feeling restaurant is advanced. You download an app, and then order you food via the app, and they bring it to you. OR... you mosy on up to that bar and place your order. The servers will bring you the food, but you place your order yourself. Aight? Things kinda work a little different over the pond eh? So... don;t be hollering at the waitress to take yer order, cos that ain't their job. #2. The beer. they have many,but they aren;t really too picky. The whole craft beer thing does not seem to be big here. I got the big chief... which was an English brew. Kinda brown, and malty. Not bad at all. #3.. the food was surprisingly good. The roti and curry in an English pub was so good. I mean.. it was good enough to have you sit up and pay attention. Maybe its just that Indian food is so much better in London than Atlanta. I dunno.. And the Lamb shank was HUGE and packed with in your face lamb flavor. Very good. Pommelers Rest is a JD Wetherspoons but is nevertheless a nice pub which is great for watching sport and serves lovely fried breakfasts as it opens at 9am. It is also the place to go if you are watching the pennies as the drinks are so cheap I had to look at the menu twice. This is one night out that won't break the bank which is also probably why it is a favourite amongst students. The staff are friendly and the food is actually very nice with a good variety. I was surprised at how tasty the Sunday dinner is and at £6.50, I definitely couldn't grumble! read more

Stopped over for lunch and to escape the cold. Fairly aware that this is a chain pub, despite the "free house" assertions. Relatively spacious pub, more seating than normal. Toilets have heated water, automatic taps and flushes - some familiar mod cons from back home. Fairly ok selection of cask ales and U.S. craft beers for the hopheads. Had me an Abbot Ale, and the missus had a kopparberg - although I should have gotten her a weston's still cider. Food is passable - not gourmet fare by any measure, but if you don't have high expectations it shouldn't disappoint. I've had worse for sure. Had the beef pie, pastry was a bit too thick, mushy peas lacked flavour but chips were decently done, and the beef stayed warm through my leisurely meal. Missus had chicken tikka masala, which was serviceable, but only just. Naan was hard and poppadums lacked spice. Still, she was satisfied, which is a good thing in my book. Ordered at the bar, despite sitting at the entrance - hey, this is a pub after all. Did you think a waiter would come serve you? :p that said, I did see some waiters assisting tourists with deciphering the menu so that's a plus for me. Bartender seemed a touch impatient, but not overtly discourteous. Special snowflakes may feel affronted. All in, an ok experience. Great spot not far from the Bridge that is mostly frequented by locals. Solid draft beer selection and the bottle list is pretty good as well. Reasonably quiet so a good place to unwind after a day and actually be able to talk to your mates without having to shout over a TV or other patrons. Update: The Pommeler's Rest is still a run-of-the-mill Whetherspoons franchise pub, completely void of character, but with low prices (especially for Central London) and a decent selection of beers and pub food. Sadly the quality of the food (especially the steaks available at Tuesday Steak Club) has dropped quite a bit, so I have to reduce the my original verdict to two stars. read more

During a day trip with my friends in London we decided to stop in the Pommelers Rest. Decoration of the place is quite simple but warm ; must be nice to watch sports events on TV with Friends. Be aware that you'll have to write your order by yourself on a paper sheet and give it to the waitress so as to be served, it not kind of things we're used to and is not really pleasant. Food is ok, the Fish and Chips was not the best I had ; and the beer choice has nothing smashing. To put it in a nutshell, a place that is ok for a quick lunch but nothing incredible. read more

We stopped in here after crossing the Tower Bridge because it said family friendly. We have two small kids, so we thought we would give it a go. It turned out to be the worst dining experience! We looked over the menu to decide and went to the bar to order. We quickly learned they were out of almost everything on the menu! It was 5:30pm! We had chosen 2 jacket potatoes with beans and sausage and mash as 3 of our 5 meals. We quickly had to scramble to find other choices. They were out of some of the beers too! I had ordered the sweet potato, chickpea and spinach curry. Apparently, they didn't see it on the order because it didn't come! Everyone else's second/third choices had arrived and they were eating. I had to go to the bar again. I quickly learned they were out of that too! I ordered something simple, but by the time everyone had finished my meal had not arrived! We went back to the bar and received our money back for my meal. They food that did arrive was not very good from what I have been told. The people at the next table ordered chips/fries with their meals and didn't receive those either! Apparently, they had run out of those too! They also had run out of ketchup! Note: one of the staff members told us they were waiting for a delivery that day which they had never received. Much of the food they ordered did not arrive. It was the day after a holiday, so it could have happened. The staff member was nice, honest and trying to be helpful. It was one of the worst dining experiences. I actually walked out hungry because I never received my dinner. I don't think I will return here ever. read more

This is a very nice Wetherspoons right near Tower Bridge (building used to be the tower bridge hotel). The cheap drinks and interesting choices of ales are out in force, whereas the personalities that sometimes make a trip to your cut price local an adventure seem more or less absent. Perhaps the abundance of mirrors on the way to the toilets scares them off. Perhaps they are worried about the Pommelers (they pummel I hear!) The location is great. The aforementioned tower bridge.well it towers over the pub, yet despite its proximity to the tourist areas and to the business part of London it manages not to be full of either. I guess they don't want to be pummeled by a Pommeler either. read more

Needing to power through the day after an early morning arrival at Heathrow, my colleagues and I stopped in for a Bloody Mary. This pub has a nice, inviting atmosphere. The Bloody Mary was strictly "OK". They were out of mix, so could only offer tomato juice. They had no Tabasco with which to spice it up, and offered no garnishes either. You have to order through the app which didn't work and the waitress told us we had to order through the bar which was super packed. Food came out pretty quickly and it was decent. A run-of-the-mill 'Spoons. Has about eight cask ales on. Cheap food, cheap beers. The place itself is pretty nice with pleasant views of the roads outside. I really like all Wetherspoon's, they're generally pretty large, quiet for a pub, decent food, good prices, and good selection. This one is not the best one ive been to, but it's not bad. Depending what entrance you come through, keep walking through to find the other half of the place, it's larger than it appears. read more

I go out of my way to eat (and drink) here at least once whenever I'm in the London area. First of all, the prices are VERY reasonable. Even more so considering it's proximity to a major tourist attraction (Tower Bridge/Tower of London). Second, the food is very good by my standards - it's the only place in London I never tire of eating (and yes, British fare does get very tiring to the typical American). Thirdly, there are many beers on tap and new beers are added to the rotation regularly. Fourth and finally, the staff have always been friendly and helpful. It is a pub and not a fine restaurant (hence 4 stars instead of 5) but I would rate this 5 of 5 compared to any other pub I've visited in London. read more

Not one of my favourite Wetherpoons. It is noisy, even in the cosy areas. The loos are ok. There didn't appear to any garden. It looks a bit like a men's club and you get blokes smoking fags by the door which is a bit intimidating. The curry is nice. Menu, the usual, something for everyone. Staff not conversationalists, atmosphere a bit dull. Only go there for cheap food. Not a very nice place for women. read more

I agree with one of the reviews that says it's one of the better 'spoons. The food was actually quite good. I had chicken tenders that were crisped excellently and not dried out. The chips were hot and fresh as well. My dining partner had a burrito and he liked that as well. The service was friendly and someone was around frequently to pick up finished glasses and dishes and clean nearby tables after they were vacated. The place is older but it is cosy and clean. It's cheap and cheerful just the way we like our wetherspoons. read more
