We stayed at the Dixon Hotel right next to this pub/restaurant while running the London Marathon this year. It's located right next to the Tower Bridge and its a lively spot to grab a bite or meet up with friends for a pint or two of tasty brew. Good beer selection and a large menu of food items to choose from. I loved that they offer a proper British breakfast all day long with the option to get it with an alcoholic drink or soda/non-alcoholic drink. Order at the bar, pay by tap and go, tell them your table number, and a server brings it over to you. I found this process easy and simple. As I was flying solo on this morning I took a high table in the bar area and did some people watching as I enjoyed my meal. Yeah, baked beans with breakast! Sure, it's a chain you can find throughout London, but it offers a decent British dining experience if you're a tourist and not looking for anything fancy.

Big Chill , much needed for the big heatwave here. Just remember, most establishment s in London does not have AC. Inuding this bar.

Approx 2 blocks over the Tower Bridge on the South Bank is this restaurant pub. My legs were about to fall off after a long day of walking all over London , visiting cathedrals, bridges and towers. Man... this place was a god send and I found it via Yelp. As a tourist, I try to stay away from eating near touristy places. Kinda seek out where the locals eat or the standard fare. Nothing fancy wanted, just cold beer and decent food. And this was it. For the muricans, this is kinda like, Applebees but kinda better. Mostly cos the beer is much better. And the whole english pub, dark wall paneling, and cosy nooks.. #1... the technology in this rustic feeling restaurant is advanced. You download an app, and then order you food via the app, and they bring it to you. OR... you mosy on up to that bar and place your order. The servers will bring you the food, but you place your order yourself. Aight? Things kinda work a little different over the pond eh? So... don;t be hollering at the waitress to take yer order, cos that ain't their job. #2. The beer. they have many, but they aren;t really too picky. The whole craft beer thing does not seem to be big here. I got the big chief... which was an English brew. Kinda brown, and malty. Not bad at all. #3.. the food was surprisingly good. The roti and curry in an English pub was so good. I mean.. it was good enough to have you sit up and pay attention. Maybe its just that Indian food is so much better in London than Atlanta. I dunno.. And the Lamb shank was HUGE and packed with in your face lamb flavor. Very good. So there ya go fellas.. standard english pub fare , away from the touristy zone, and eating with the locals.. #winning

We are American tourists looking for some goood fish'N chips, and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was so cute and lively. If we come back to London we will definitely be back !!

Pommelers Rest is a JD Wetherspoons but is nevertheless a nice pub which is great for watching sport and serves lovely fried breakfasts as it opens at 9am. It is also the place to go if you are watching the pennies as the drinks are so cheap I had to look at the menu twice. This is one night out that won't break the bank which is also probably why it is a favourite amongst students. The staff are friendly and the food is actually very nice with a good variety. I was surprised at how tasty the Sunday dinner is and at £6.50, I definitely couldn't grumble!

Decent selection of cask ale from the usual suspects.

Stopped over for lunch and to escape the cold. Fairly aware that this is a chain pub, despite the "free house" assertions. Relatively spacious pub, more seating than normal. Toilets have heated water, automatic taps and flushes - some familiar mod cons from back home. Fairly ok selection of cask ales and U.S. craft beers for the hopheads. Had me an Abbot Ale, and the missus had a kopparberg - although I should have gotten her a weston's still cider. Food is passable - not gourmet fare by any measure, but if you don't have high expectations it shouldn't disappoint. I've had worse for sure. Had the beef pie, pastry was a bit too thick, mushy peas lacked flavour but chips were decently done, and the beef stayed warm through my leisurely meal. Missus had chicken tikka masala, which was serviceable, but only just. Naan was hard and poppadums lacked spice. Still, she was satisfied, which is a good thing in my book. Ordered at the bar, despite sitting at the entrance - hey, this is a pub after all. Did you think a waiter would come serve you? :p that said, I did see some waiters assisting tourists with deciphering the menu so that's a plus for me. Bartender seemed a touch impatient, but not overtly discourteous. Special snowflakes may feel affronted. All in, an ok experience. We needed a place to eat, rest and escape the sudden winter chill - this place did the job well enough.

Very satisfied! My family and I were traveling from Ny. After we walked the tower we just kept walking until we found this little spot. We were served very quickly and the customer service was great. Food was also good. The prices were reasonable. This place gets my vote!

This was a neat little pub that we stopped by to have some lunch while in London on vacation. The atmosphere was good and the location is great, right down the street from Tower Bridge. The prices weren't too bad for London, but the food was just ok. I had the burger which had no flavor to it. My wife had the fish and chips and she liked it. All in all this place was good for a quick lunch, but the was wasn't all that.

The location is perfect, I can watch the Shard while eating. I ate some onion rings and a steak. The taste is just OK, but the price and the location match it.

    Well done steak and chips

Before I go on, I have to thank the staff for allowing us to be seated because the restaurant was fully booked yet they managed to squeeze us in. That was so generous of them and we just want to acknowledge them. Ok. So, the portion was generous and beautifully plated. The steak was tender, rich, and slow-cooked to perfection, packed with deep, savory flavor from the ale. Every bite was hearty and comforting -- exactly what you want when you're in London. The gravy was silky and robust, perfect for dipping those thick-cut chips, which were golden on the outside and fluffy on the inside. It also came with fresh greens, roasted tomatoes, and crispy onion rings that added great texture and balance to the dish. You can tell this is proper pub food done right -- no shortcuts, just bold, satisfying flavor. If you're looking for a classic, filling English meal that absolutely delivers, this is it. I'd order it again in a heartbeat. Not a bad start to our first night in London. Bonus: They have a downstairs pub that stretches across 3-4 rooms so definitely grab yourself a pint after dinner. Charles Dickens visited the site when it was a coffee house and it's mentioned in Little Dorrit. But the real reason to visit is for the food. Borough market, just across the road may offer a world of different foods, but The George Inn offers traditional British pub food at its best, in warm, historic rooms. This is your place if you're looking for authentic fish 'n chips--they're fresh, lightly battered and perfectly fried without being greasy. I also had the mac 'n cheese which used real vintage/sharp cheddar--and a lot of it--excellent! So you'll get good food while enjoying a historic inn where, for hundreds of years, travelers changed horses, got food, drink, and lodging before the railway era. IMPORTANT TIP: You order food at the bar--but you will need a table number. So you'll need someone in your party to sit at a table in the adjoining room. There'll be a brass plate with a number on it which you'll give when you order--so the food can be brought to your table.
