Order double meat and white bread for The Fig sandwich. Cute shop, cute town. I would come back.

Took a detour off the main roads to find lunch on our road trip. We don't eat at fast food places, preferring instead to dine at local restaurants in little towns. The Pod was an awesome cafe with great food and a cute vibe. We both got half sandwiches with chips. I got the Monte Cristo that was just yummy! Hubs got the Turkey Club grilled. He liked it so much he wished he had ordered a whole. Nice selection of sammys and great and fast service. So glad we made the stop!

Hands down the best lunch spot in Gretna. High quality ingredients, friendly staff, and quaint café style dining room which opens to high end gift shop called Sweet Pea. I ate here multiple times in my week in Gretna, and tried both the sandwiches and salads. The whole portion for the salads are generous, with two large dressings. The Caesar is a clear favorite but also the Harvest was good hit a touch sweet. On the second visit I had the French dip, which was perfect! The a jus was not too salty, and the bread was very fresh. I opted to sub the chips for a fruit cup which was strawberries and blueberries. Fresh and sweeten they were perfect. Both visits I purchase a French vanilla ice latte with whole milk, both consistently delicious. All baked goods are made in house so we spilt the Apple Danish with free whip cream. It was served warm and bought to the table mid way thru which was a nice touch. I could probably spend an easy $50 here every visit just trying all they have to offer, and it's well worth it. After eating we ventured next door to check out the cute shop. I also noticed a wine room, and locally sourced honey and coffee for sale. The fresh squeezed lemonade is also to note, they offered a to go cup and free refills, for $2 that's a steal!

Stopped at The Pod for a quick coffee on our way to NC because it was an easy detour off 29. So glad we did! Staff is super friendly and coffee was excellent! They even gave our puppy a pup cup. We will be back and will try the food next time as the menu looks excellent.

Worth it, but a bit pricy. We were looking for a coffee shop while driving through the area and found this cute spot on Yelp. A bit pricy for 2, but the quality of food, taste, customer service and being able to stop in at the adjacent gift shop made this a 5 star stop for us. Would recommend for anyone traveling thru looking for good coffee and/or food. We purchased the Cobb Salad w Chicken and Fig Delight Sandwich.

We were road tripping from Charlotte to NYC, deciding to take back roads and stumbled upon this little gem in Gretna. Great design, ample seating inside and out with umbrellas to shield from the sun. I had the chopped salad with chicken and my husband ordered the club with the the sweet honey mustard recommend by the lovely girl taking orders. We also ordered the Pimiento Cheese with Toasties. The food was fresh, well prepared and delicious. The staff was friendly and service oriented. Cannot recommend this place enough if you are in the area!

I went to The Pod for breakfast with my friends around 9 AM. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese (came with fruit on the side) and a medium iced vanilla latte. It was only 8 bucks and it was delicious. The staff was very friendly when I had questions. The inside of the place is beautiful and had an overall great atmosphere.

Went on a busy Sunday during brunch time and it was a 5 minute wait for a table, so that wasn't bad. Out waitress was super nice and helpful, answering any questions we had about the menu and what she would recommend. Overall, the service was excellent. The only downside to our visit was definitely the wait time for the food.. it took about 40 minutes for the food to come out! Other than that, our experience was very pleasant. Will definitely be coming here again :)

Ok, gonna be a mixed review. I am going to say that I hope I'm back in Danville to try them again…read moreso I can up this rating. I think they have great potential but it depends on what they do with what the customers tell them. I want to commend the manager/owner guy who came out and talked with us. I gave an honest opinion to him directly and will here as well. The restaurant was very clean, and decorated nice. Comfortable! The staff were friendly. Our waitress was precious, bless her very pregnant heart. She was very attentive. We both ordered the 2 egg breakfast, that we upgraded the signature dragonfruit pancake and signature croissant French toast to. I got the chicken sausage links and hash brown casserole. Casserole was ok. Could have been fresher. It was 11:30 and tasted like it was made first thing in the morning, but still edible. I would like it more cheesy. My hubby tasted the base most. I'm just picky with my hash brown casseroles lol. Chicken sausage links were FABULOUS!!! Highly recommend!!! Hubs got the turkey sausage patties and they weren't good. I didn't try them because I don't eat turkey. Both of our eggs were cooked perfectly, mine being over medium and his scrambled. The signature items. I told this exactly to the manager/owner guy. The dragonfruit pancake: the pancake was not good. Idk if they messed the batter up but it tasted/texture was like it wasn't cooked, yet didn't look undercooked. It was just weird, like the recipe was messed up. I hope that is all it was. The dragonfruit compote on top was delightful!!!! It had the potential to be fabulous, just the pancake wasn't it. The signature croissant French toast was good but the middle was not cooked. You could see the wet custard. I think the griddle was too hot. Outside was slightly charred, not too bad, but inside not done. Just need to make sure they are cooked. My mocha latte wasn't mocha. It was a good latte, but zero sweetness or chocolate flavor. The hubs caramel macchiato was warm and dreamy! Again, I see so much potential in the place, just some tweaking and it would be amazing!!!

We were seated right away and all the staff from start to finish were friendly and responsive. I ordered the lemon blueberry pancakes, my husband the French toast and a side of bacon. We chose to share a cinnamon roll. The pancakes were two, very large (bigger than the plate!) pancakes with whole berries in them, topped with a large scoop of fresh, thick whipped cream, topped with more blueberries. Served with a side of maple syrup. Absolutely delicious! I could taste the lemony flavor with the first bite. Not overwhelming, but nicely flavored. 10/10 would order again. My husband's French toast was outstanding- also accompanied by a large scoop of the whipped cream, fresh mixed berries and maple syrup. He doesn't normally order French toast, but he loved this dish here. The side of bacon was a delightful surprise - it was crisp and slightly candied and utterly delicious. 10/10 would order again. The only disappointment was the cinnamon roll. It was served cold, a bit tough (maybe the dough was over-worked?), a little dry and not as cinnamony-sugary-buttery as one would expect. The cream cheese icing was lovely, but not enough to make this roll a winner. Overall a great experience though and we will be back!

The street situation precluded a few spots downtown, and since we weren't in the mood for our go-to taco place, we decided to head out to the Family Diner. The walk-in was awkward on our part- cash register or hot bar line first? A sweet call from the kitchen of "Y'all's first time?" got us headed in the right direction. Full disclaimer: I've been nostalgic for the southern cafeteria lately. While talking to some food industry friends last week, we realized there is something powerful about the food we all remember from K and W. And while Family Diner doesn't have a giant dining room or a 5-snake velvet rope line to get to the counter, it does take me back. Here's how we made our choices: the hot bar was a choice of three types of chicken- the baked and fried were tempting until the gentleman serving us says: "We can fry you fish to order. Flounder, trout, and catfish." The chicken got skipped for a plate of flounder (plentiful plate, btw), and a side of the Mac and cheese and cooked cabbage. The kid sampled the catfish plate, same sides. Sweet tea. And yes ma'am, I'd like the cornbread. Done. We sat down at a table in the main, cozy dining room. The first thing that I noticed: this place is clean- tidy, even. There was a super polite young man moving around and busing tables, tidying up unassumingly and doing it in a way that is lacking in some finer dining places I've been in recently. The food came out, piping hot. I used one of the malt vinegar packets to douse my flounder (a cafeteria habit) and dug in. The first bite was light and flaky, cooked perfectly. Nothing greasy-tasting, at all, just clean. The sides were great- nothing over seasoned, and like cooking at home, there was room for you to season things to your taste. Well played, Family Diner. The owner (I think? She was the one who guided us down the right path when we walked in) came out to make sure that we were happy, and yes ma'am, it's great, and holy cow, you just dropped this cornbread into the skillet and fried it? Yes, we will be back. It's unassuming, and it's just what the doctor ordered. It's a cafeteria, but it's clean and polite and makes you feel good that you ate there. It's soul food, but not just from an ethnic standpoint- it makes me happy and full and feel welcome and I'll be back.
