It's been awhile since I visited a chiropractor, mostly due to a lingering fear of the "snap." Growing up watching Bruce Lee movies with my dad, I was convinced a quick neck twist was a finishing move killing off the enemy. Good times... My friend recommended I see Dr. Dan at The Pleasant Chiropractor as he's a current patient and says treatment has helped him. I've been dealing with neck and shoulder pain from sitting at a computer all day, plus I think an old car accident that seemed minor at the time is catching up with me....and um, ahem...getting older. The first visit is a consultation with X-rays with follow up to go over a personalized wellness plan. I'm currently receiving non-invasive neck decompression therapy and ESTIM (electrical stimulation) for muscles and nerves along with manual adjustments by Dr. Dan. It truly has helped with my headaches, neck and shoulder stiffness and minor lower back issues...I just need to be more consistent and keep up with daily stretching at work/home. I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Dan - professional and completely puts you at ease. It helps that he's friendly, funny and easy to talk to with any concerns. Sure I hear a lot of *snaps*....and *pops* but I feel much better after. Huge shout out to Dr. Dan. Came to Dr. Dan with a herniated disc in my lower back. I couldn't move without pain, walk or essentially do anything without pain, my quality of life sucked and at 30 years old I needed help. What can I say about Dr. Dan? He truly lives up to the name, "The Pleasant Chiropractor." I sought his help for a persistent lower back issue that had been troubling me daily for over a months. The constant pain made simple tasks like getting out of bed, bending, sitting​, picking up my grandbaby and working out extremely difficult. I was frustrated so I went to see an Orthopedic Doctor first and he recommended stretches and physical therapy​-which I was already doing every day at home. The stretches and physical therapy help- but ​only temporarily. The Orthopedic Dr​. said he could do a ​surgical spinal decompression which "might" help. I decided to do some research and googled spinal decompression. NO WAY! I was not about to go that route!​ The same search led me to Dr. Dan Russell, a local chiropractor in Pleasanton known for non-invasive spinal decompression. Based on my positive past experiences with chiropractic care, I decided to give it a try, and it turned out to be an excellent decision. ​The office is very nice, spacious, clean and centrally located with ample parking. I was going to a chiropractor for 6 years in San Ramon but did not experience much improvement. After going to Russel Chiropractic I saw improvement in 3 months! After our initial consultation, I was immediately impressed by the fact that he was able to clearly articulate the issues I had without getting into confusing technical jargon. It was the first time I had been to a consultation where I could visually see and understand why I was in constant pain. The initial recommendation was pretty aggressive, but I decided to make the investment because I felt he knew what he was talking about and was not just trying to sell me a service. I'm happy to report that just after 3 months there has been improvement in my X-rays and also overall improvement in my quality of life. Space has been added back to the compressed discs in my spine and my hyperextended pelvis ( which also caused constant pain) saw strong improvement with it's alignment. The only thing I did not see improvement in was my hip alignment. I'll have to continue doing treatment over the next few months to see if that helps with that portion as well. Overall, I have a lot less pain than before and things are steadily getting to a healthier place. If I had one constructive thing to say, it would be that the billing can be a bit cumbersome if you're not paying straight cash. Whereas some offices have assistants or receptionists at the desk available to help with insurance, customer check ins, etc., the expectation with this office is that you pay cash or that you handle the insurance information yourself (he is a one man show and has no receptionist). But other than that I think Dr. Dan offers a very good service and seems to genuinely care about getting people better and not just taking their money. I can appreciate that he has been able to back up his words with results which is ultimately what you'll want any investment. Dr. Dan is a master of his art, and that's an understatement. Before I get into his role in my healing, I want to mention that all the MDs did was prescribe narcotic medication and referring to specialists of all sorts. No one could come up with a definitive answer, but Dr. Dan took a thorough, detailed look at my MRI and X-rays, and then spent an hour going over the reports, explaining the reasons behind my pain and the tools he would be using to help cure me. He used a technique known as spinal decompression, in addition to therapeutic innervations to help cure me of my pain. Dr. Dan is patient, understanding, and very knowledgeable. I've had a lifetime of back issues and throughout the years I've had hundreds of adjustments from tens of chiropractors. I currently will see any one of several doctors for maintenance depending on their availability, and they are all very good. It's been a while since I've seriously injured myself to the point of immobility, excruciating pain, and sleepless nights, but yesterday afternoon my luck ran out. I am a group fitness instructor, so I'm no stranger to discomfort and bodily fatigue that I can most always push through. This was different. The pain I had was severe. A constant deep burning that radiated from my spine, up my neck, over my shoulders, and down my arms. If I moved slightly, sharp pains would shoot in all directions. The pain made me almost sick to my stomach. This morning I had to cancel on my class for the first time in recent history. I was devastated. I put out a post on Facebook apologizing for my absence, positively stating that I hoped to be back next week (but knowing that whatever was going on would surely put me out for much longer.) When I first started seeing him, I was consistently having back pain and was having difficulty exercising with any kind of intensity or consistency. Quick Summary: Dr. Dan is great! He saved my life! I had a silly back injury - the kind where you bend over to pick up an empty dog bowl and things go crunch. This was one of many back problems I have had in my life as my genetics weren't great to start with. I was hurting for months and thought this would be the rest of my life. I saw an Orthopedic doctor and they said I had a lot of arthritis and possibly disc damage in my lower back which there was nothing that could be done other than stretching and taking pills. Month after month there was no improvement. It left me up all night in pain and made walking or even getting out of my car painful. I missed many days of work at my office where I sit for a majority of the day. I thought this was the start to a downward spiral where I can't travel or exercise or even sleep. Through a roundabout referral while on a trip to SC, I got in touch with Dr. Dan and started to see results. He took the X-Rays, then adjusted me -- instant relief! Since then he fixed my Yoga Noodle Incident, twisted hip (from pushing a 300 lbs dude 5 ft up the tree... don't ask), and numerous results of my adventures, from regular 15-hour international flights, to 20-hour coding marathons, to weekend warrior exploits. I bought an Amazon local deal with Main Street Chiropractic and Dr. Dan refused to honor it. Not only did he refuse to honor it, he only returned one of my several phone calls to schedule an appointment. When he did finally call me back it was several days later and after several unsuccessful attempts to reach him during his regular business hours. Because I had used an Amazon Local deal previously, Dr. Dan felt he could make up his own rules and tell me that he could not honor my deal because of the previous care I had received. When I left him a message (because of course he did not answer during his regular business hours) assuring that he was going to honor the deal, as it did not state in the vouchers conditions that previous chiropractic care would make the deal void, he of course, never called me back. I work in the service industry and have never seen customer service like this... I do not understand how any reputable business can function this way. I am extremely disappointed and have NEVER felt so passionate about something that I decided to leave a yelp review. If Dr. Dan had honored my Amazon Local deal (which I was completely within in the right in having honored), I would have continued care and set up the treatment plan recommended by my previous chiropractor.
