I'm a mediocre recreational golfer and I was on the fence about playing here during a recent vacation mostly because of the cost. I'm so glad I did. The clubhouse is luxurious and everyone was friendly. I had to rent clubs and had 5 options to choose from. I hated the first set after a few practice swings at the range, so they swapped it out for me. I was impressed some sets include a Scotty putter (just ask if you want one). They provide some complimentary balls, tees, markers, divot tools and even make a souvenir golf bag tag for you while you play. These little things made me feel better about the cost. The course itself is amazing. Each hole is interesting, scenic and in impeccable condition. I'd estimate that about 13 of the holes have direct ocean views. Some of the holes were challenging, yet overall this course is very enjoyable/playable for the average golfer. I saw the friendly beverage cart woman 4 times and surprisingly beers weren't that overpriced compared to normal courses. On a slightly negative note, play was a little slow at ~5 hours. I played solo behind groups of twosomes. I'd often wait 3-5 minutes at tee boxes before I could start the hole. I didn't mind because I enjoyed the opportunity to relish the scenery and take lots of pictures, but that might have bothered some people. If you appreciate golf I recommend splurging and playing this course at least once. I don't think you'll regret it. read more

Whereas not a bucket list item, I have wanted to play this course for a while. The layout is beautiful and the course is playable (just not very well by yours truly). The overall experience though is lacking for the price. Yes, ok, I get it, spend the money and play this once, but you will get a much more rounded experience at some of the other really nice courses on Maui. read more

Iconic, challenging, extreme but playable. The wind, the elevation changes, the greens - so incredible. I played for my 50th birthday by myself with headphones in. I had some incredible shots and some horrific lost balls. This is my 3rd time playing it. It is so unique, so fun. read more

Loved the challenge of this course! Each hole brings its own complexity, and when you add in the Hawaiian winds and the drought conditions, it truly tested every shot. The greens didn't always reward good approach shots, but that only added to the challenge. I'd definitely play it again, even with the drought conditions--such a treat to experience a PGA Tour-level course. Highly recommend! read more

As Oahu residents, we came here a few years ago (not to golf) to see what this storied golf club was all about and decided we had to return one day so we could actually play a round. My husband had a tee time here over the weekend and I was his rider. We were just in awe the entire time! You don't even have to golf to enjoy this course. Everyone's perspective is different, but in my opinion, it doesn't matter if you're a paying visitor or paying Kamaaina-- this course is amazing and very, very well kept. To have the chance to play this course is definitely an honor and worth every penny! This stunning course covers a lot of ground. Be ready to do a lot of walking even if you've got your cart! There are ocean views (or partial ocean views) on almost every hole. Molokai & the deep blue ocean is in the background pretty much the entire time. The greens are immaculate and the service at both pro shop and bag drop were great. We will definitely jump at the chance to be here at the Plantation Course again in the future! read more

This is the best golf course on Maui, if not the world. Impeccable clubhouse and starter service, fairways, greens and views. Weather is a consistent 75F degrees year round. Cart F&B service and several tee boxes to choose from. The wide fairways are forgivable to resort guests and average players, so when you see the Pros low numbers you know why. If you fail to carry fairways, experience heavy wind or penetrating rain you'll be wondering why you chose this course. Always a treat to play the most expensive public course on Maui, even if you don't break 100. read more

This course was a dream come true to play. It's not a cheap course but the experience makes it worth playing at least once in your life. The views throughout the course are amazing and I feel like if I had played it a second time I would definitely have a better idea of how to plan playing each hole. One of the best and the most challenging golf courses I have played thus far. This is where the men's PGA starts their season in January. We played this course in February. The course was in great shape. The greens were perfect and extremely fast. So if you have a downhill putt and you miss the hole your ball will keep rolling off the green. The fairways are tight, (grass cut short) so your pitch shot needs to be clean. The views are AMAZING!!!. Ocean views at every hole. Staff were friendly and helpful from the time you drop your clubs, check in, to the starter. Service was excellent. Green fees are expensive but you are playing where the pros play. Be prepared for the weather. Where Kapalua is located on the island of Maui, we encountered wind and rain. The wind and rain would come and go. Luckily the weather cleared up as we played the back nine. I suggest you buy the book at the clubhouse that describes each hole. It really helped us out on how to play and handle the course. Decent course and good view. The starter Bob has no emotional intelligence and social awareness. He should not be the face of the organization on the first tee. He ruined our round/day with his insulting comments he made on the first hole. The starter should obviously be customer service oriented and know how to communicate with guest. Bob should NOT be customer facing. Michael Castillo the pro on the course was patronizing in his attempt to hear our concern and argumentative while acting like we were inconveniencing him. Worst customer service ever. Bob and Michael should not work with the general public. read more

Located in Kapalua, Maui, the Plantation course is a pro level course and host to the Sentry Tournament of Champions in January and is consistently ranked as the #1 course in Hawaii. Almost all of the golfing greats have played here and the course is beautiful. It is truly amazing with the landscape and the scenic ocean views on course. Be vary wary about afternoon tee times, as the winds pick up pretty good, and if you are not prepared can cause havoc on your game. I swear i hit a wedge right into the wind, and it came right back at me! The course is manicured so perfectly, the fairways are like the greens at your local course back home. And the greens are smaller and more challenging as well. Top notch customer service (commensurate with the price) and a great way to spend a day if you love to golf as this is a bucket list for many. read more

I traveled with three friends to Maui for a golf vacation. The highlight of the trip was supposed to be the plantation course. The fairways and greens were being aerated and sanded as we played. No one from check-in to starter informed us the course would be in this condition. We discovered the issue as we arrived at the first green. After three holes we gave up and returned to the clubhouse. The assistant general manager disagreed with our assessment and refused to provide a refund. As people checked in behind us I could hear the attendant say, "the greens have a very light coat of sand but will roll true". There is no doubt in my mind this was a intentional effort to mislead for profit. Aerating greens is an absolute necessity to maintaining a golf course. However, the golf course should discount green fees during this process and inform its customers prior to booking a tee time. I am very disappointed and will never return. read more

Course management needs to pick up their game. We had a 5 plus hour round today which made for a terrible course experience. Played two foursomes behind a foursome with two caddies....which you would think would ensure pace of play. Instead, they clogged up the pace of play...the caddies didn't move their beginner golfers along. Unfortunate that the slow foursome was not better schooled and managed by the course trained caddies. read more

The greens were worse than your local muni track. They should be ashamed and embarrassed to charge that kind of money for such awful greens. Supposedly, they had been punched THREE WEEKS AGO. When my home course punches the greens, they are PERFECT after three weeks. These greens reminded of those Parmesan crisp crackers--bumpy, still covered in sand and slow as molasses. Shame on you Kapalua, you are taking advantage of the people. read more

The course is beautiful and in very good condition. For the money they charge, there should be marshals monitoring the play. The groups in front of us today were taking 2-4 tee shots each on every hole. A breakfast ball on the first hole is fine but when there are -3 groups backed up, taking multiple tee shots is unacceptable. And worse still, when I mentioned this to the pro shop after the round, they didn't even care. Take your money elsewhere and golf Wailea. read more

Course is closed and is being redone for next years PGA Event. The only reason I am reviewing is because of the unfriendly person in the pro shop. We had a marvelous breakfast and I wanted to get a hat or shirt in the pro shop. Dude at checkout either hates his life or thinks checking out people buying apparel is beneath him. News flash, you are in customer service and always selling your brand. This guy didn't help with either. If I hadn't of wanted the shirt so badly I would have walked out and not purchased it. read more

This once great #1 inHawaii golf course has gone way downhill due to poor maintenance. Greens need to be reworked, hedges clipped and the rough is over 3 feet high. It pains me to see this happen to such a world class golf venue. read more
