I wish I was able to go more than once! The drill was 1.5 hours long and Joseph taught it. We warmed up for the first 15-30 min and then played a bunch of mini games. There were 8 of us in the class and very different levels ranging from kids on the college tennis team to me (who picked up tennis as a hobby during the pandemic). Joseph did a great job pairing us up for the mini games so it was a challenge for all. It was a great way to work off all the lava flows from the past week and have fun doing it. It's also a beautiful setting to play some tennis! I left my racquet back home, but they do offer rentals as well. And for those not wanting to do a drill you can just reserve courts, get a ball machine and/or lessons with the pros.

The open play is well organized. The members do a great job of helping to organize with the rules and we made some great friends while visiting. Thanks Ryan for making us feel at home! I did hear that sadly there was a petition to end pickleball here because of the noise at the end of 2024. I hope it's not true and they can continue because this is a fantastic pickleball community with some really nice courts.

This morning Keopuolani Park had a fun run for Pono Viela so there were a lot of people when we arrived so we rerouted. The streetlight at Kaahumanu and Papa was out so we rerouted again. Finally we ended up here at KCC and the little playground was pilau. It was full of graffiti and it's clearly old but at least it's gated in. We didn't stay here as long as we usually stay at Keopuolani but it did the trick. We could use more nice playgrounds here in Central Maui or upgrade ones like these. I think next time Keopuolani is packed, we will just go to Wailuku Heights park even though it's pretty windy sometimes up there or the one by Wailuku Elementary even though there's usually ball games going at that one.

SO many good memories here at KCC over the years. From hanabata days, I can still clearly remember…read morethose joyful squeals as we bolted down the grassy hills on cardboard boxes 4, 5, 6 more times with a seemingly unending stream of energy. Even better were rainy days where body boards took the place of cardboard boxes and if we walked away unscathed with little to no bruises, we considered ourselves one of the lucky ones. I remember a number of field trips to the swimming pool, hanging on to the walls for dear life, but still having so much fun. Aah, those were the days. The park has changed very little since then & that's all part of it's charm. With it's soccer fields, swimming pool, community center, tennis courts, walking trails, etc. Kahului Community Center Park has always been a gathering place for families, friends, & generations of local Mauians. Although the facilities are quite a bit older, everything has been well maintained for the most part. The community center remains popular for all types of parties and events. Frequent games are hosted on the soccer fields. Tennis courts are well lit once the sun bids us adieu. And the playgrounds are enclosed for our littles to enjoy. The park is centrally located so I still come here to take my son out to play every now and then. The playground is geared more towards older children, but there's still enough for my 3 1/2 year old to enjoy. He might also just like being outside in general so there's that... hehe. All in all, great park!

One thing that was a bit upsetting to us the last time we were there was that it was pretty obvious that the grass gets mowed but there was a lot of opala (trash/rubbish) where they mowed and along the fence line. Who knows if all that trash was there before or after they mowed but whatever the case, so much trash. Like anywhere, always be aware of your surroundings. Sometimes there are some shady characters at this park. Check it out.

Named after Charles Wells,…read moreonce a manager of the long-gone Wailuku Sugar Co., he donated the 6.6 acres of land the park sits on. I played a fair amount of tennis here back in the 80's and it's still a popular spot today, even housing a local tennis club. There are six tennis courts, a basketball court, baseball and softball fields. The Wailuku Gym and Wailuku Pool, located across the park on Market Street is also part of Wells Park. A few big trees provide good shade. Parking is adequate for park usage but in weekday space-hungry Wailuku, it can be at a premium especially due to the location of the judicial courts and jurors. FUN FACTS: The very first Maui County Fair was held here in 1916 where the baseball/softball fields are located. Richard Nixon made a campaign stop here in 1960 with thousands of Mauians in attendance. "Spreckles Ditch" boarders the entire east side of the park. It starts at nearby Waiale Reservoir behind the MCCC jail, meanders through Wailuku town and visible from multiple locations, finally emptying out into the Wailuku River (formerly known as Iao Stream) west of the Millyard industrial area. OVERALL: Perhaps one of the island's most historical parks.

COMMUNITY CENTER: The open-air, single level, rectangular-shaped building was just the right size for a party and can accommodate about 200 people. A small kitchen is on one end, a stage at the other, and restrooms out back. Views of the outside are second to none as windows line the entire front and back of the hall. The facility is older but is in exceptional shape. I did hear from the party host that she had to bring in some rented tables and chairs at her expense as the ones they provide weren't in the best shape. TENNIS COURTS: There are 4 of them but I didn't check it out. TIP: Sunsets here are killer! OVERALL: It was a further drive for me but I'm glad the party was here rather than at the decrepit Eddie Tam venue in Makawao.
