It was a frigid Thursday late morning in January. After being held against my will in a long…read morebusiness meeting downtown, I emerged from the building hangry. I was planning to hit up any fast food joint to cure my hunger, but to my surprise, parked adjacent to the parking lot was a big, blue food truck called "The Olive Branch." At 15 degrees Fahrenheit, the idea of standing outside for more than 30 seconds was unappealing, but my hunger was a bigger problem. With my wife in tow, I didn't want to have her sit and make her wait for me, but she asked if I wanted to order food from the truck. With her blessing, I decided to pull the trigger and walk over. I do love Mediterranean food, and to point out the obvious, this food truck was definitely that...but the first thing I noticed as I approached was "HOT CHOCOLATE $3" in big letters on the ordering window. I immediately decided that instant that I didn't know what I was eating yet, but I knew what I was going to wash it down with! The special, also posted on the window, was "Gyro Tacos" - and it showed a picture of two taco-looking items, but I assumed they had gyro fixings instead of taco meat. So, I told the nice lady, "Give me a hot chocolate and the special." I asked her, "Can you make those fast?" and she didn't hesitate. Within 2.5 seconds, she threw three tortillas on the cooking surface, and I was already thinking, "Hmm, three tortillas, not two - YASSS!" They accepted Apple Pay, so I appreciated their technological savvy in 2025. You know what else? She was so nice, she gave me a discount on the hot chocolate for no reason at all! All in all, I waited less than five minutes for the tacos. To fight the cold, I stood in the sun, rotating my body 180 degrees every 15-20 seconds. Meanwhile, amazing smells oozed out of the cracks of the food truck. After a quick moment, she handed me the "to-go" box and hot chocolate. I went back to my Jeep and opened the box. The tacos were neatly and skillfully assembled, visually packed to the gills. I basically devoured them like a dog being introduced to a perfectly seasoned, medium rare Tomahawk Steak at his last meal. They tasted like high-quality ingredients, very flavorful, with yummy, flaky, light feta cheese sprinkled on top. The hot chocolate was also the bomb. Afterwards, I felt full and satisfied. I don't normally tip the owner/chef/operator (which I assumed who this person was), but I decided to do so anyways due to their generosity. It was appreciated. If you're downtown and see this bright blue truck, swing by and say Joe sent you. I'd recommend this food truck to anyone. Thx for the extra taco and the discounts! I wish you luck through the winter!

Just had their $10.50 gyro sandwich. It was a standard tasty gyro. To support local business, I would have given this truck four stars until the chef added insult to injury by asking for a tip! To do what? Wrap a sandwich in tin foil and handing it out a window... with NO bag, napkins, utencils, sauces or sides? (None was offered either.) And in case you paid cash - so they couldnt shake you down to add a tip to a card - they've conveniently placed a tip jar at the window for any change you receive. Greedy guy won't get any more business from me.

The noodles aren't too greasy but have good flavor, which I personally prefer. The service is great! The people that run the food truck are very kind and are always excited to see their costumers. They make sure you're well taken care of and are quick with getting the fresh food to you. I would definitely recommend if you want an easy, friendly, and yummy experience!

TL;DR: Food was served quickly, was tasty, and I would eat there again…read more Details: I ordered Vegetables Hibachi, which tasted similar to most of the fast-Japanese food available locally, and I ordered Vegetable Noodles, which is different than what you can get at most of the area fast-Japanese places which mostly serve fried rice with their hibachi fare. The noodles were similar to fettuccini in width and slid easily into my mouth. Portions were filling for both of the items. The dipping sauce was tiny sized, but plenty-and reminded me of Thousand Island salad dressing, but slightly different. The vegetables for both were onions, carrots, broccoli, and some sort of squash/zucchini, all sliced small/mini-bite sized. The spring rolls are the deep-fried kind, and vegetable. Not sure if these come with a dipping sauce. Plenty of my friends seem to enjoy their bubble teas-might try this on a return visit. They also have Rayume sodas. Location is in a parking lot across the street from the Menard's on IL 173, just West of Rockford Speedway. The parking area is not well lit, so beware of the large potholes that will gobble up your tires as quickly as you will gobble up this tasty food in a few parts of the lot, but there is plenty of open, free, parking, and it feels safe. If they are busy, they will give you a pager so you don't need to stand around the trailer after you order and pay (they accept credit cards and cash). I assume the parking lot allows for semi trucks, as it's huge, spacious, and on a state highway/not far from the I-90/I-39/US51 interchange and assumed to be on a truck route. No restroom facilities on site: it's a food truck.
