The instructors are great. Easy to follow instructions with variety for different abilities and all very professional, but also fun. Not being instructed by robots! It's a really friendly atmosphere which is the reason I keep going back. And I have tried gyms before and just give up as don't enjoy it. The only reason for 1 star being off is because the pool can be seen from reception and the cafe area which for me is off putting. I'm sure a lot of people won't bother about this, but I'd prefer it to be more private.

I paid a second visit in the form of the Cannie Gingers versus the Parma Violents Roller Derby match. (GO, BRIONY, GO!) This time round, I can honestly say that as a sporting venue, it's fabulous for events. The main hall was a really good size, perfect for the various Roller Derby team stalls and the spectators were treated to bleachers, meaning you could get a great view of the action from wherever you were seated. (I really loved this, it made me feel like I was at an All-American game!) The hall's size meant minimal queuing so we really were in in no time! Whilst I can't comment on the ticketing and organisation side of things, as that was all done by Roller Derby, (They did a really good job!) the venue really did feel suited to the day and made for an all-round great experience. I can't say I'm completely enamoured by the Peak just yet since there was a leak just above my spot which meant avoiding the drips during the game! (Eek!) But in all fairness, I do think that it deserves some props for managing to host bigger scale events, similar to those held in larger cities. I may well come and try that ice rink. We were in the main hall which has banked seating at one end for a crowd which was good although normally a crowd would sit along the long side of the track rather than the bend. The floor itself is a normal basketball court and was very good for skating on. The changing rooms we used were very clean and fit in about 20 of us while we got ready for the game. The staff made sure to lock the room while we were playing so we didn't have to worry about our valuables which was appreciated. There was a good amount of toilet facilities which meant there weren't any queues at halftime. In the foyer area there's a shop as well as a cafe and a climbing wall which I didn't notice until we were on our way out (clearly I was too focused on the game). The car park was large enough that we got a spot easily and didn't have to wait ages to leave the car park again at the end, and it was easy to get to from Glasgow. All round, an impressive venue.

There is also the unmistakable and inexcusable smell of sewage coming up from the drains. The place really needs upgrading. It's a shame really because Whitehill is my nearest swimming pool. Laps is what I like to do the best and it's ideal because there are quiet periods where I can sometimes even have the pool to myself. It's just a shame that the facilities are so poor!

The changing facilities aren't great and the pool isn't huge but it is great to have on your doorstep. The other rooms are used for football, karate and other classes. At night the pool and exercise rooms are open to the public. The classes for children run by the swimming staff are very popular and get booked up early but are a great way to get your child used to new environments and skills.

I would recommend wearing clothes you don't mind getting dirty and Wellington boots. This farm can get pretty muddy, but it definitely doesn't stop you from having a great time. They also had a lovely play area for children in the front center where some ducks congregated. Overall a fun experience, can't wait to go back!

You know what? This leisure centre is pretty good!…read more I have always been drawn to the private gyms with their plush towels and tanned personal trainers in logo emblazoned polo shirts. Unfortunately I can't afford private gym membership so I use the Meadow Centre (which is a local council gym) on a pay as you go basis. It has a swimming pool complete with wave machine and flume but also has a section for lane swimming, as well as a steam room and a sauna. There are sports courts for badminton, football, basketball etc, a 68 piece gym and a number of fitness classes. I mostly use this gym for the swimming pool, the steam room and the kettlersize and hips, bums and tums fitness classes. I love the classes and I genuinely look forward to them every week. The trainer is friendly and enthusiastic without being annoying! The classes are kept to a nice small size (about 15 people) and the equipment (kettle bells, floor mats etc.) are in good condition. At the end of the day it's a square room to jump about it and sweat so I'm quite happy doing that for a fraction of the price of a private gym! It's £4.50 per class on a pay as you go basis and there are a variety of full membership options available. The ability to book your fitness classes online is invaluable!

I haven't actually swam there, just used the changing rooms and public toilets, which were fine. I have also been to the café but the horrible 80s décor just looks out of place. The café has a view of the swimming pool which looks better for proper lane swimming than Dunbar, which is aimed more at families with its water slide and wave machine. Apart from this, it looks rather dull and old fashioned, like the rest of the centre. I saw signs to a Bodyworks gym and health suite which sounds rather promising. The staff in reception are so nice and helpful which is good to see in this day and age. I know that this has been a short review but there is not really much to say. It is a swimming pool which is rather worn out. If I ever swim there, expect an update.
