When I discovered that I would be going to Raceland, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, for a friend's stag night, I was very excited. This was my first experience of proper karting, and it was thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. We had the whole venue to ourselves, with a grand prix style set-up for the afternoon. There were qualifying races, followed by knockouts that culminated in a final race. This meant that everyone got a great amount of time on track, and if you weren't driving you were able to watch the racing action as it unfolded. Raceland offers both an indoor and outdoor karting track, as well as paintballing. Karting seems to be the main focus here though, and it shows in the quality of the experience. The whole time there was very smoothly run and organised, with quick driver changes between races, and standings and lap records etc. available on computer screens in the pits. By the end of our time at Raceland, we were all buzzing. A great time from start to finish, and I hope to return there to try their outdoor circuit some time!

Pre booked on line, perfectly on time for the outdoor track. Welcomed by friendly and polite staff who briefed us about the Do's & Don'ts, we were at it in no time. 42+ minutes of great and fast fun!!! Raceland provided us with all the necessary gear before jumping in, needless to say that the only helmet I could wear was the XXXXL... mainly to allow my varifocals specs to fit to avoid me pulling the Mr Magoo stunt... Highly recommended for everyone who'd want to do something fun and different for a day out... they also serve food at the Jan's Diner too... Will definitely go back to have my share of fast fun and to improve my appalling/embarrassing lap record... Keep up the good work!

The instructors give you a safety…read morepresentation, video etc and go over the rules of the track as well as all the flags meanings etc. Then its time for kitting out in all the equipment you need for the race. Next up is the Karts, the instructors give you a short lesson on the controls and then its time to get on the track. Practice laps, then you move on to either GP or different race formats. These can be chosen on the website or over the phone. All in all we had an excellent day out, its great fun and the Karts are super fast, feels like a real racing car! but in miniature!

Let me preface this review with the disclaimer that I have never before driven any vehicle other…read morethan a bumper car, so I had no idea what to expect when father dearest suggested that we (he, my sister, mum and I) go go-karting as a family (read battle to the death). Cambuslang Karting is an outdoor track, a little bit out of the way for most denizens of Glasgow. It's not too far from Cambuslang train station, so it can be reached easily enough by public transport, and the big canvas sign makes it easy to spot when you get there. The sessions are in 10 minute blocks, charging at £15 for the first 10 minutes and £10 for each additional 10 minutes. There are also big deals for a Grand Prix or Endurance event, apparently popular with stag parties and corporate events (I can see why!). Following a quick flags and safety presentation, there was much hilarity in getting the right size of overalls - they go up proportionately, so to wear one that fit me across yon bust, I ended up a bit penguin-legged! A good hoik up, and a bit of folding jiggery pokery, and all was well. Balaclavas and helmets and gloves, oh my! All very formula 1! By the time I was all dressed, I felt ready to tear up the track. At first, I was nervous... Then I was going at full speed around the track, cackling like a woman possessed, cursing those who tarried in my path! Mwahahaha! Sadly, my poor wee mammy was too nervous and kept getting stuck at the sides. She was too busy worrying about what everyone else was doing, and only managed two and a half laps the entire session. Bless. :) Father, sister and I, however, were having a race amidst another family of go-karters who obviously go often. The staff print out your lap times at the end of each session, so you can see who was the fastest, and how much faster you had to be to beat someone the next time round. So much fun!!! I was a second slower than my dad, an experienced driver, so I was pleased with my epic performance. It's a pricey hobby, just something you'd do once in a while, but when you start laughing maniacally as you belt up the track, you just know you'll be back for more.
