Most trips up 81 to cabin upstate are hurried affairs,, but today the wife and I had time to look up an interesting food stop at 2 pm. Found Pines, and navigated over from 81. Interesting place- loves the idea of eating in an old bank, and it is indeed an interesting setting. Menu had some interesting sandwiches, but at waitress recomendation, I went with the Swiss and mushrooms burger. Wife got the capriese with grilled chicken. Both were decent...wife would actually classify as "very good", but the burger was non-offfensive and average. Her chips were thick cut, fries were a little too greasy. Cost was $28 for both. Service was good, humorous, friendly. Lots of seating makes me wonder if it gets packed of is overly ambitious. I hope it gets packed, because the venue is interesting and deserves to get used. The food was delicious. I had the beer battered shrimp basket, my BF had a burger and fries. The service was good. She was attentive and also made sure we got token for parking. I love this place for its charm. It was once a bank and now the vault is their liquor cabinet. read more

The place was wonderful in the past and now it is even more.. the new owners are amazing and are doing a great job at keeping the spirit alive while bringing a few more delicious food to the place. I had a business meeting in Hazleton, and it was suggested that we meet at the Pines. Sort of unusual for a weekday at lunch, the front door was locked and had to call the restaurant to tell them that we wanted to get in. Once we did, it was empty, of course, so maybe even in downtown theydon't get much lunch business. With that in mind, we ordered what looked good, and the food was fresh and delicious. read more

Called to order a takeout order and was greeted by a friendly chef. He was very helpful in letting me know what was in stock and very efficient in taking my order. Service was nice and welcoming. The vault was decorated with stunning flower arrangements. Inside was modern and slightly casual.Thick and crispy beer batter wings were a good filling appetizer. Bruschetta was fresh, but toast was burnt underneath. Mac and cheese is as to be expected. Shrimp pasta was very spicy, fiery sauce tasted like they put a bottle of Sriracha in it. All in all it's pretty average food. Wings were the only thing worth going back for in my opinion. Staff was nice and efficient. Interior needs some updating/ cleaning. read more

Needed a place for lunch. Amazing venue in an Old Bank; reminded me of Cipriani's in NYC. Beautiful art and lighting. The food was very good. A salad and sandwich. Big portions and good quality; the salad was super fresh. The chef came out to chat, which is always a nice touch. The service was good but could be dialed up a notch, but very friendly and cordial. So happy to be able to have lunch in an actual restaurant! The Pines is a beautiful restaurant. I was the only there for my lunch. Service was impeccable. Food was good. The menu seemed limited, probably from Covid. I had the crab stuffed mushroom caps. So light and delicious! I would come back tomorrow, just to have those again! The Rachel sandwich, was good, but not spectacular. It is a turkey melt with coleslaw. Tasty and grilled perfectly. I just found it a tad boring. Note: I would normally not go with a turkey sandwich, but I asked my server for her favorite. I will definitely come back here next time O am in Hazleton. Please keep your doors open, The Pines! I am tired of losing great places to the da*# virus! read more

This place has so much potential but is so lacking. My husband and I went here for Valentines Day. We thought we would give a local place a try. The setting is beautiful and stunning. The bar is nice with the bank vault as it's backdrop. The food was average at best. A few special items for Valentine's Day were not available which was not a big deal. We were just ordering from their regular menu. I ordered the chicken picatta with crab meat and my husband got chicken parmigiana. Now I'm not one who is about the plating but this was not anything to write home about. I was four small chicken strips in gravy with a smattering of crab meat with a piece of kale thrown on it. My husband said the chicken parm was ok. The sauce tasted like jarred sauce and was microwaved so hot he burned his mouth. We both got a glass of Riesling which $6 was not bad for the glass and the amount but it honestly tasted like boxed wine. Finally was the entertainment. Bring that it was Valentine's Day I would think some nice romantic music. Nope it was trivia night. Don't get me wrong I love trivia but I don't think this should have been the night for it. Also it was poorly done. I felt like it was a poor rendition of bingo playing in the background. It could have been a lot more fun and exciting if the woman running it was more enthusiastic and entertaining. One good thing was the dessert. I would recommend the peanut butter pie. What a beautiful place! It is unlike any other restaurant in the Hazleton area. Had my sisters bridal shower here last month and it was gorgeous. The only reason I am giving this 4 stars is because the service could be better. Had to wait a bit for my food and when I asked for no cheese they gave me cheese. Otherwise a great place. read more

Beautiful restaurant and bar! Have been there several times and have not been disappointed. Menu is diverse from signature barbecues to delicious small plates. There is also a bar snack menu for light fare. The decor is beautiful and very cosmopolitan, you will be pleasantly surprised. Staff is professional and very courteous. Stopped in here for a late lunch on a snowy day...the first day of Spring. It is a very nice restaurant right on the main drag in Hazleton. Sweeping ceilings, large and open restaurant, with a nice view outside and plenty of light. I had a meatless (Friday during lent) pasta fagioli soup which was delicious. For my main course, I had a pork barbecue sandwich. It was fresh and good, but I didn't embrace the sauce/topping on the sandwich. They were careful to have non-meat specials given that it was a Friday during Lent...which makes sense given the strong Catholic heritage in the region. The fresh cut fries were absolutely awesome. Next time i am in Hazleton, I will return. Good food, good service. read more

This establishment is probably the worst restaurant I have I ever visited in my lifetime. The service here was unbelievable. I waited to be seated for 15 minutes and nobody acknowledge my presence. The waiters/managers/hostess never even made eye contact with me. They had a band duo which brought in a good sized crowd which wanted food and beverages yet all the workers walked around like zombies. Please avoid this establishment at all costs. read more

Was here 3 weeks ago for my wife's birthday, Friday night, not many people. Dinner entree selection is fairly lacking, needs a few more choices. I got Chicken Cabrese and it listed hot peppers but it was loaded with banana peppers. While the meal was OK, it wasn't anything great. I'm not sure if this place is trying to be a bar or a restaurant, but they should really just pick one. The live music/band was a little overpowering for dinner time. Maybe hold off on that til 7 or 8 and play bar then... Overall, I would've been happier spending $5 for a pizza down the road. Rating at 3 stars for quality of meal. read more

Stopped in her for a friends party, all the food came out at different times, the servers looked sloppy, the girl behind the bar, ugh!! You can overhear her talking to a customer about how she needed sex, the restaurant it's self is very nice but the people who are working there are very non professional and should probably retire, they could have at least try to compensate all the mistakes our table encountered, very disappointed, the little strawberry haired colored girl behind the bar, stop prostituting yourself at your place of employment, this happened last week, will not be returning, such a nice place to be ran by uneducated wraths of hell.. read more

Would of gave a 4 star rating but I'm truly judging on the food and not the atmosphere. If it was just the atmosphere well its 4 to 5 but food well lets just say a steady 3. I got the famous pork bbq which I wasn't a fan of. If it was so famous and they sold so much of it why did it seem like the bun was 3 weeks old. The fries with chesse and gravy were good but who could mess up fries. Maybe I got this place on a off day but it was mid week prime time lunch time... Will try again. read more

My aunt and I went there for lunch. The food was very good. We both ordered the potato encrusted cod special. The flavor was great, but the cod was a bit mushy and could have been warmer. The french fries were freshly cut from real potatoes, and were delicious! Unfortunately, that is the end of the good things! Our server seemed completely indifferent to taking care of us. My aunt order hot tea, and asked for cream...repeatedly! Finally after the 4th time asking, without effect, I walked up to the host and asked if it was possible to get some cream. That finally worked, and the cream was delivered. Our water glasses remained empty throughout most of the meal. The server did not bother to come back to check on us. The manager stopped by to talk to us, at the same time as the server dropped off the bill, and I relayed good comments to him on the food, but pointed out the terrible service. I mentioned my water glass had been sitting empty for 15 minutes. He promised to remedy that. Instead, HE WENT HOME, and 30 minutes later, we were ready to leave, and the server FINALLY came to the table. I pointed out to her that her service had been terribly inattentive. She honestly did not seem to care though she did offer the obligatory, half-hearted apology. The key lime tart dessert looked terrific, but fell short of lime flavor. IT had an odd artificial metallic taste to it. I loved the decor of this restaurant. They had not changed it from when it was Mai's restaurant, and that was OK with me. I might go back, since the food was really good, but I think next time I will take a water jug and a pint of cream with me. Overall...HUGE disappointment. read more

A great place in downtown Hazleton for lunch or dinner. Excellent burgers, stromboli and barbeques to a variety of interesting dinner entrees. The atmosphere is amazing with high ceilings and an interesting vault near the bar that makes for enjoyable and relaxing dining. read more

This place is a great spot on Hazleton's Broad Street. The food and drinks are always great and full of flavor. This is my ideal lunch spot or date night place with my wife when we want a good meal, but not necessarily in any type of rush for our food. The service can sometimes be slow (only reason for 4/5 stars) but the food quality and overall atmosphere make up for it in my eyes. The inside of the restaurant is enormous. The ceilings are super high and have ornate decoration. I believe it was a bank at one point; with an eye grabber of the vault door (near the bar). I always recommend The Pines to any one looking for a good restaurant with the note that service is sometimes slow. Other than the (sometimes) slow service, there are no downfalls that I can think of in the times that I have dined here. I would not think of that as a deterrent from coming back and will definitely continue to recommend The Pines to friends, family, and coworkers. read more
