It might have a selection of real Ales and a cider however all the ones I tried were totally not just poorly kept but I thought actually just plain vile to drink aside from the Red Dwarf. I come from an area where I have access to quite a lot of pubs with multiple choice boards and pubs where the ale is brewed on site. Frankly considering this pub is reasonably unique in Whitby for offering the same the standard of ale in this pub compared to where I come from in the Black Country just does not make sense. The pies are quite large and they're so delectable. Best meat pies we had on the trip. The portions of potatoes and peas are generous, too. What really brings the experience to the next level, though, are the dishes the pies are served in and the music playing in the background. I ordered Haddock, but was served what can only be described as a battered whale,...it was huge! The fish was about 12" long and very fresh, served with thick cut chips and mushy peas, with a side of fresh crispy salad and coleslaw. I ate the lot, and washed it down with a pot of tea. The only downside was having to go upstairs to pay by card, but thats only if you're like myself and forgot to get cash first. I've eaten here a few times over the years, and the staff have always been friendly, serving nice food, and in a quiet little 'tucked away' place for a bit of a break from the busy streets above.
