Walrus Trip Advisor Review…read more Unless you enjoy thoroughly unpleasant management and bizarre experiences avoid this place like the plague. By chance we called at Walrus for breakfast. It was empty and we were two couples and two dogs. Once seated the Waitress asked that we should all be seated at the same table, which didn't really suit us with the dogs. We pointed out that they wouldn't actually make two couples who didn't know each other sit together and asked why would we need to. Amazingly the young waitress let slip that if we didn't she "would get shouted at". Even when we said would pay separate bills we were required to move. Once the seating fiasco was sorted in the empty cafe, and only AFTER we were served 4 full English Breakfasts Did the Owner/manager put in appearance, bizarrely accusing us of making a member of his staff cry and banning us from the Walrus and the establishment next-door. If your staff cry and they are worried about getting shouted at I say Look at your lack of man management skills not to mention your utterly useless customer service. I would have had some respect for the owner/manager had he been principled enough to put in an appearance before we were served, but I guess that would have seen him out of pocket. There was a second lot of customers arrived before we left a mum dad and child who were also told they were only allowed to use one table. At busy times I get it. You need to use tables as efficiently as possible in a small establishment, but when the place is empty? The way the Waitress who served us handled the initial situation is why we didn't walk out of the door without eating. I could not recommend The Walrus of Whitby to anyone even before the unpleasant owner/manager popped up and started the floor show in front two parents and a youngster. No wonder the place was empty. I certainly would not have returned to the establishment event without this laughable ban. TIP Rules of Customer service as I was taught them... Rule One The Customer is Always Right! Rule Two When to Customer is Wrong Refer to rule ONE!

Sought local recommendation for best coffee and was not disappointed. Lovely smooth coffee, beans…read moreground fresh on the premises, great place to relax with lots of seating including lovely arm chairs.
