I've had dinner here twice this past winter and I have to say, the food I've eaten here was absolutely amazing. I wish I could fly back to Australia each week just to enjoy the atmosphere and food.
Don't be fooled by the décor, this place is definitely a hidden gem. The introduction done by Chauby never loses its sparkle; you just fall straight into love with her and smile start to finish. Their service is definitely the best I've ever experienced; you feel as if you are enjoying a delicious dinner at your family's house, it's so welcoming. The waiters are great, always making their rounds to make sure you're doing well, even Igor, the chef/owner and husband of Chauby pops out of the kitchen every now and then. They all go above and beyond!
On the first visit my boyfriend and I sat outside. I didn't know how large the portions were going to be so I ordered an entrée before my main. For my entrée I had their French onion soup which is TO DIE FOR! I'm not a person who is crazy about soup but this was amazing and so filling. My boyfriend had escargot for his entrée and they were absolutely delicious especially with the bread they served. My main was a filet mignon served with some vegetables and mashed potatoes. I love beef and this was just mouthwatering, their mashed potatoes were like buttery clouds of heaven, I was so pleased! My boyfriend had a bouillabaisse with; flathead, prawns, bug, mussels and scallops, I didn't try it during this visit though. Afterwards I was so full, I wished that I could have rolled over and napped.
During our second visit we were much smarter with what was ordered. We shared two entrées which was once again the escargot and also pâté. I tried the selection they gave us but I am a duck pâté sort of person so I didn't have that much but my boyfriend enjoyed the selection of the three types they gave us. My main was the French onion soup yet again and my boyfriend also had the bouillabaisse, this time we saved room for dessert which was the crepe suzette which I had never had before. I love crepes, French and Japanese; I just found it to be a little too strong for my liking regardless, we left happy and full!
*Some things you should know about this place is that unlike most French restaurants I've been to, they serve relatively fast. I thought that I would have time to recover between meals but as soon as you finish they give you a small sorbet to cleanse your pallet and not long after your next dish. Also their menu is plenty; both times I went I wondered, "What would Gordon Ramsey say about this booklet?" He'd probably trim it down a lot. Servings are very generous, I can eat quite a lot but even I was surprised at how full I was after each plate. read more
