Another little gem. It's a little bit different, but the coffee & smashed egg dishes were delicious. Definitely worth a visit.

On a recent trip to the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales Yum Yum Cafe was our go-to brunch, coffee, dinner haunt. I echo another reviewer in my praise for owner, Manfred Rudolf, and his team. They put on a great show every visit. The standout experience was definitely dinner on a Saturday night. Yum Yum Tree is located in a really special spot. Directly across the road from a mangrove lined estuary, amidst the lush subtropical rainforest dotted with weird and wonderful holiday shacks, and a mere stumble to the beach. As we sat at our cute candlelit table, the breeze funnelled down the road and made the atmosphere just right and the beading sweat on our foreheads redundant. Manfred had swapped his breakfast-lunch tank top and shorts for something a little more fitting of the linen-napkin dinner spread, and engaged us in genuine, light-hearted banter. He and his wait staff appeared when you needed them, "shall I top you up?", and disappeared when the reflection of the stunning surrounds was to be shared by only two. Entree of buffalo mozzarella was substantial and as fresh as it comes. Beautiful rosy-red tomatoes, as in season as you will get, accompanied creamy though subtle white disks of cheese. A basil leaf per mouthful cleansed the whole thing; acting as the roots, the glue, that made this simple food so of the earth. Mains were panfried snapper - fresh and local, of course - with kipfler potatoes, a refreshing citrus salad, and an assertive salsa verde, and butter-like venison served with asparagus and potato rosti and a cheerful balsamic sauce. For dessert, a 'bush tucker' creme brûlée with lemon myrtle and ginger, and a side of to-die-for-I-kid-you-not raspberry coulis. The thing I like most about Yum Yum is how understated it is. Beautiful bush setting, 2 minutes from the beach with an eclectic mix of modern Australian with Germanic influence. Kangaroo steaks with lilli pilli salad next to pork belly with spatzle are a couple of recent specials. Good service from the charismatic Manfred and his team but really, you come here for the setting and the food. Lack of Licence is negated by the rather better value option of a bottle shop next door and a generous BYO arrangement. A kiddie play park next door is great for families - and also great for those without since it is where the kids will disappear to pretty quickly. Only open lunchtime and evenings at the weekend in summer holidays. Whether driving Brisbane to NSW or holidaying nearby, Yum Yum is worth the short trip from the highway. read more

What a gem in a magical setting. The staff is fantastic and helpful. I stayed in a guest house up the road from Yum Yum so a quick walk for dinner was great. Had excellent steaks and an incredible Pinot Noir from Adelaide. Breakfast also was top notch here. I hope to come back again, I wish I was there right now! read more

A nice peaceful setting with a great diverse menu. The staff are friendly and helpful. Mornings can be quite the delay with coffee orders but it's one of the best tasting coffees in the area so worth the wait. I found the food to be a little pricey but it is put together well and it's the only cafe in the area that does table service. read more

Had the sourdough and poached eggs for breakfast. Couldn't have been happier. Great food and wonderful staff.

A nice rustic and relaxing place to eat, with friendly staff. The coffee was good but not so good that I wanted a second cup. The meals were not as tasty as I would have hoped for the price. All in all a nice place to stop if you're passing, but not a destination. read more

I live practically next to this place and guess what? I never go here! Too expensive, too crowded, takes too long for your food to arrive and the waiters are a bit annoying. A lot of tourists enjoy this place but I think its crap. read more
