I am about to become a repeat patient of the Perico practice, as I learned I need a dental implant (lower). I first went there as a referral 3 years ago and the work was 2 dental implants (upper). These 2 implants are very nice work and I've had no problems. My end-to-end experience was a positive one. Considering my own implant process, I would not have wanted a less-qualified practitoner doing the work, and they gained my trust right from the first consulation. I had (*) been a very satisfied patient of Perico Swampscott for more years than I can count (began sometime in the early 1990s). I always had high regard for the care that I received there, until last year. When I returned for a routine dental cleaning I found the office to be not at all like it had once been. There was only one familiar face and I was told that my dentist, along with a number of loyal employees, from the reception desk to the hygienists to the doctors, mine in particular, were no longer with the practice. My hygienist did her usual excellent job. I scheduled my next visit and simply felt sad that things had changed so much. The reason that I am writing a review is that today I received a text message telling me that my cleaning appointment had been cancelled because the hygienist had left the practice. I was not offered an appointment with another hygienist. I am left feeling that I was simply cast away. One of the things that I really liked about Perico (aside from the great care that I received) was that there were many hygienists there. I valued using them all for all of their different knowledge. I always tried to have a different hygienist each time. (*) To be notified that my appointment was cancelled (less than a month before my appointment) because the last of the group of hygienists had left the practice (to repeat, there always were many and I loved them all) and not be offered an alternate appointment is unconscionably unprofessional. I mourn the loss of what Perico was and stood for. God save my teeth now! read more

Get a second opinion before being convinced a gum graph is the right procedure for you. My kids got one side of their mouth done because we were told it was medically necessary. A second opinion said the other side of their mouth can wait years and may not be needed at all. It's also very expensive, nearly maxing out our insurance limit which delayed needed cleanings to the following year. read more

Dr. James Hanratty and the team of doctors and medical staff at Perico are beyond any shadow of doubt amazing. When I could not find another periodontist to help me, Dr Hanratty rose to the challenge. He is amazing in every way! I cannot possibly say enough about him and the Perico Group! I've been a Perico client for almost 8 years. I sang the praises of this practice: the doctors (especially Dr. Reiser) were brilliant and kind; the support staff equally wonderful. I recently had an appointment scheduled and asked if the office (doctors, hygientists, etc) were vaccinated. I was told I could not have this information (because of HIPAA laws, which is not true). I can only assume that the staff at this medical practice is not vaccinated. For that reason, I will have to find a new practice. read more

MIXED review... OK, so a few months ago I had a dental emergency and my regular dentist was out of town (not that I actually make a habit of going to the dentist, you see...but I do have one...) Anyway, I called around and called around, trying to find a place that could get me in on short notice and who would take my dental insurance. Finally, I was able to get in to see someone @ this place (Perico), and, after asking three different people, I finally got transferred to the billing office and they said that they took my insurance plan. It turned out that things were even worse than I thought, and the doc told me I needed oral surgery. The dentist (Dr. Wise) was FABULOUS, as was his assistant (sorry, I forgot her name). They took such good care of me, and made me at ease with the quick surgery. I even told them that I was going to write the best review ever on Yelp, and send their staff something special. (I was thinking maybe a fruit or muffin basket...) Much to my horror, however, I got the bill about a month later and it was $800...no coverage from my insurance! When I called, the woman in the billing office was a complete douche and she ended up hanging up on me when I asked that someone else call me back because she apparently lacked any semblance of professionalism and refused to even discuss the fact that I was told when I called for the appointment that they took my insurance plan. She just keep repeating herself "it is your responsibility to ensure insurance coverage." Yes, I replied, that's why I asked when I called!!!! When I called back to get the name of the office manager I told the person who answered that I was just hung up on and asked if that was standard practice there. Her response was, " Yes, sometimes it is." It's gonna take a loooooooong time for them to get that $800...let me tell you! Stay away from this place unless you know for sure, IN WRITING, that they take your insurance! This isn't over for me, as I'm writing a letter to the practice to complain! read more

While playing an ice hockey game i got a hockey puck in my mouth even though i had a helmet and a clear visor on i had a fat lip, cut chin, eight stitches and three teeth pushed inwards it was a mess! the emergency room took care of the medical stuff my bottom teeth was imbedded in my bottom lip. I was referred to the Perico Group in Swampscott by my regular dentist of 15 years, Roger J. Wise D.D.S. was great in three short months he had my lower three teeth looking better than ever! highly recommend him i asked him being 59 years old i must be the oldest person with braces he said nope! we have had older people here with braces. read more

Just had my very first dental surgery ever (I'm the kinda person that has only had like 2 cavities my entire life and, genetically, has had good luck with my teeth). As you could imagine, gum surgery just sounds like a nightmare - needless to say, I was so at ease and relieved that the people who were 'under the hood' so to speak, knew what they were doing. I don't think I felt a bit of pain the entire time and after about half way through I completely relaxed, being reassured about how I was doing and constantly being updated on what was happening (I wasn't sedated - and super nervous, so I asked to be involved). It has been a week - minimal pain (if any) and top notch work. Thanks Dr. Reiser and his lovely assistant!!! read more

They explained the procedure (extraction/bone grafting / implant) in complete detail which put me at complete ease from the moment I entered the office up to the moment I left. They don't come any better than the people of Perico! I have been going there for many years. Their outstanding professionalism, coupled with their amazing care, kindness, and outstanding work, makes Perico and the Doctors there the best there is. I have had many many surgeries at Perico and always, always feel so cared for. Not to mention they are painless in their skills. I do not know where I would be without them. Great Humanitarians as well. I am forever Grateful for of ALL of the staff there. Sorry but it sounds to me that the negative poster is one who looks for issues every where! I just called the Swampscott office to attempt to set up a new patient consultation. A woman named Stephanie answered the phone and then quickly interrupted me about 5 seconds into my sentence rudely shouting saying " I have to put you on hold" then placed me on hold for 9 minutes. At this point I hung up and called the office again. Stephanie very quickly answered my call and when I told her it was me calling back she very rudely shouted at me again that she was busy with another patient.I am not annoyed that i had to wait on hold, I am annoyed at the way she rudely yelled at me. If you are not able to take my call don't answer your phone or at least nicely ask if I can hold. I am happy to take my business to another office with more polite professional staff. If you are planning to use this doctor just know that you will likely have to deal with the wonderful Stephanie. Good luck! read more

I found the Perico group on Yelp. I needed to extract a dental implant I had misplaced (at another place) 6 years ago and I needed a bone graft done too. Dental surgery is very scary and you just never know what you'll get. Everyone at this office is extremely nice. Following my IV drip surgery they gave me a nutritional shake and the periodontist even walked me out to the car even though I had my mom there with me. They called me for the following 3 days after asking me how I was and made sure I visited 3 times after my surgery for followup care. I can say that this is the best dental service I've had and I don't feel like just a number. I am so thankful to them and to Dr.locke for being such a compassionate and professional periodontist - I've had lots of dental work unfortunately and I can say I would trust them blindly for any major dental work. Even though the office feels a bit outdated the scan prior to my surgery was done in 3D and they offer many dental implant options so not everything is the same for everyone & I really appreciate that because not all dental implants are the same and they really work to find what best suits you. read more

I recently had an infected tooth extracted and had an implant done at The Perico Group in Swampscott. My entire life I've had an extreme fear of dentists/oral surgeons and would rather take a beating than have any type of work done to my mouth. Now that I've gone to The Perico Group I have completely changed my feelings based on my experience here. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I actually like going there and it's all thanks to the incredible staff. Hands down, Dr. Rory Lock is the best doctor I've ever had in my life. He is extremely patient, understanding, and gentle. I don't know how he and the staff have been able to put up with someone like me (demanding, neurotic, and impatient), yet that hasn't stopped Dr. Lock and his staff from treating me like a queen. Every time I'm there they explain what they are doing, take their time with each procedure, and make me feel so comfortable I don't want to leave. I can honestly say I'm blown away by the treatment I have received. I know more than anyone that having dental work is scary, time consuming, and expensive but if you go to The Perico Group you will be more than pleased with your experience and the outcome. The sweet ladies at the front desk, the amazing assistants (Kerry, Gail, and Hannah), along with my favorite doctor (Dr. Lock) have completely changed my opinion of having dental work done. If you want the best, and you should when it comes to your teeth, go to The Perico Group you won't be disappointed. You know you've had great work done when you feel good, consistently get compliments on your smile, and would return in a heartbeat if you ever need anything else.
