I've been going to The Perfect Workout for a year and it's time I write a review. I work primarily with Alyx but have had sessions with Jared and Dillion as well. I've been in gyms off and on my whole life and have had personal trainers before, but I have never experienced the results as quickly and safely as I have with Alyx. She makes sure my form is perfect and reminds me to adjust if needed while I'm doing my reps so I feel safe from injury. While at home I overworked my back and thought about not going to workout since I didn't want to really injure my lower back. I decided to go and talked to Alyx about my fears of making my back pain worse. She adjusted my routine and closely monitored my alignment and my pain perception for 2 weeks. I did not have more pain in fact my back got stronger. Twice a week for 20 minutes might seem like a short time, but I have results - my husband has noticed my results - I feel and act stronger. This workout is efficacious and efficient. I wouldn't go back to a regular gym at this point. The trainers are not just nice, but they are very knowledgeable which in my mind is more important. I've recommended this place to many people and if you're reading this review, I recommend it to you as well. You put in the work, and you won't be disappointed. read more

You will pay more than $60 for a 20 minute session maximum. The workout room is small and crowded. The people are upbeat and cheery, but it's really bad value for $ spent and not great COVID precautions. Seems like this is a great example of shrink-flation - when I last visited it was more like $55 a session and there was a full 30 minutes scheduled. 2 rooms were available for workout equipment, while now it's all crammed into 1 room. read more

She was encouraging and explained well how to do the form correctly for each machine and educated me on muscles and how to maximize each workout. I'm a nutritionist, and I first discovered the Perfect Workout when a number of clients started talking about this magical gym, where they'd been told that 20 minutes, twice a week, was all they needed to do. I thought it was crazy, and so I went stomping in to the Menlo Park studio to find out just what kind of insane rip-off joint it was, selling snake oil to my dedicated clients. You know how this story ends. The team offered me a free introductory workout, I wobbled out of there on liquefied legs, and here I am, 3 years later, 52 years old, 5 feet-nothing tall, leg-pressing 430 (and counting) pounds, feeling strong and toned and really powerful. My body is much more dense than it was before, and I feel as if I can take on any physical challenge that might come my way. And I have a butt, something I'd never had! As a health professional, I recommend weight training to all of my clients, particularly women, to maintain their bone density, their balance, and to help with managing their weight. And because it is short but very intense, slow-motion weight training is great for the time-poor. I find it very motivational to 'beat my time' and 'beat my weight' each session. I've been trained by several of the Menlo Park team, and enjoyed everyone. There's a good mix of personalities and specialist knowledge, and so no matter your needs and style, there's someone who will be a good fit for you. I work mainly with Maricel, who is a stickler for form, and who drives me to be better every single workout. We've gotten to know each other pretty well over the years, and so going to workout is a pleasant, chatty experience, which is a great distraction when my legs are shaking. An aspect of slow-motion weight training that I enjoy is that it is almost meditative. When you are moving as slowly as possible, everything gets quiet and calm. I've never been a fan of gyms with loud music, sweaty boys dropping their weights everywhere and dripping all over the floor. There aren't even any mirrors to pose in, or to see my ugly strain-face. It's a grown-up, dignified environment. And it's over in 20 minutes, just as they told me in the very beginning. read more

I've been coming here twice a week for the last four years. Each session is 20 minutes, and uses a technique involving slow repetitions of as much weight as you can push or lift. You are always with a trainer who sets the machines for you, checks your time and pace, and otherwise keeps you distracted from realizing you are exercising. It's very fast, conveniently located, and they are flexible schedule-wise. It's also in the second oldest home in Menlo Park which makes for a really beautiful exercise space. I've worked with most of the trainers, and they all deserve high praise. read more

We've upped our activities and have seen great results in our health. My chronic shoulder pain is lessening each day. My doctor has told me I'm preventing surgery and to keep it up! I was skeptical when I first heard about a weight training program that you can get results with just two 20 minutes sessions a week. After my first trial session, I was sold. The slow-motion exercising with fairly heavy weights seemed to work. I could feel that I really exerted a lot of effort without getting hurt or getting winded. It's been 4 months since I started working out at The Perfect Workout and I'm enjoying the results. I feel stronger and more confident. My goal was to get healthy and stronger, not necessarily lose weight, but since I am leaner, I look better. My husband noticed, and he said, "Wow, you're doing something different!" I think that this program would probably work well for weight loss too. I chose to sign up for only a single weekly session and do another aerobic exercise activity once a week, and it still works. Probably would work even better if I went twice a week. I have tried to train on weights before on my own. I could never get results because I would either not do the exercises correctly, not know what exercises to combine/rotate, and never be able to push myself hard enough. I was always scared that I would hurt myself if I tried too hard. The personal trainers at The Perfect Workout take care of all that. Johanna Jacinto that works with me at Menlo Park office really knows how to motivate me. She even makes it fun. Yes, it is somewhat pricey because you get a personal trainer, but it's much better than paying for gym memberships that don't work. read more

The Perfect Workout was recommended to me this summer, and I have not missed a session since I signed up. It may be hard to think that a 20-minute workout can do much, but it does! Their highly skilled trainers are amazing, and they are with you every minute of your workout. They are super friendly and supportive, too. I'm still pretty new at the Perfect Workout, but enjoy each session with my trainer and am already beginning to feel some good results. I was concerned about strength training that would be appropriate for my age and issues. The trainers are knowledgeable and put together a program that fits me. They demonstrate just how to perform each movement, telling me specifically what to do and why. They are watchful, giving me their full attention, and positive, cheering me on as I work. I have been doing the Perfect Workout Routine for a year and a half now and I love it and could not imagine not doing this workout because it has increased my strength tremendously and I just love how strong I feel. I broke my shoulder about 2 years ago and after I finished my physical therapy I joined The Perfect Workout in Pleasanton and started with Bekki, then she moved over to the Menlo Park location and I followed her there as I couldn't imagine training with anyone else on these workouts but all the trainers are very nice there so you can't go wrong. Bekki is always very nice, helpful, and wanting to help you do your best, and more than all of this she is not judgmental at all and that in itself is really nice because you always feel comfortable with her and doing your workouts. This location is a very unique destination with it's set-up in an old Victorian home, which I love because it isn't like going to a conventional gym to workout, it's more like going to a friends home and parking is very easy there and close proximity to the home, which is a really nice convenience as well. When I am finished with my workouts I always say, "that's it", "I'm finished", "this really is the perfect workout", it goes by so fast you can't even believe it! So what are you waiting for, just get to it and just do it, and you will be so impressed and proud of yourself that you took the time to say yes and do it!! I have been going to The Perfect Workout in Menlo Park for 3 years, and it is the first exercise program which I have committed to and loved! I go twice a week, and never miss a session because who doesn't have 20 minutes to improve their body and feel good about themselves?! I must confess I am not a person who loves to sweat and need to shower after a workout, but I AM a person who wants to be strong, fit and confident physically, without hurting myself. The slow motion strength training accomplishes that. One of the best parts of the Menlo Park Perfect Workout are the trainers - every. single. one. I used to be a runner, rollerblader, etc., but as I've gotten older I've felt the need to focus more on strength training. About a year and a half ago, prompted by a radio ad, I tried The Perfect Workout - and I'm still committed to it, twice a week. I love it because it's easy to fit into my schedule (most of the time!), it's not a big, sweaty, loud-music blaring gym, and the trainers are awesome. I've worked primarily with Linda, who guides me through my workout, encourages me, and is an all around great person. It's amazing to see how far I've come and how much stronger I am. I can leg press almost 400 pounds! The slow motion weight training builds muscle, and in turn speeds up metabolism and helps you keep lean and fit. During a 20 minute training session (which actually ends up being about half an hour when you factor in moving from machine to machine, etc.), you utilize about 5 -7 machines, spending only 2 minutes (or until "failure") on each. You certainly can't get bored! I would encourage anyone to give it a try if you're interested in gaining strength, getting fit and feeling great about yourself! read more
