I had no idea that the one phone call that I would make in December of 2020 would change the entire trajectory of my life. I had hit 300 lbs again, and knew I was going to go well over this weight. Out of desperation and complete defeat of trying to keep the weight off on my own, I reached out to Michael Dorricott of Training Space Palo Alto. I was willing to go to any length necessary to get this weight off and keep it off. Any length to me, was meal planning. I thought that was all that I needed to do to get the weight off. Michael got me started on a meal plan and I started dropping weight immediately. I even had a cheat meal for Christmas and still lost 10 lbs that first week. Within a few weeks after the meal plans and walking 30 minutes a day, he had me in the gym training with him and Cody Smith. I'm not sure at what point I fell in love with my commitment to working out and my health, but what I do know, it was because of the significant results I have consistently seen. When I do the work, I see the results. When I don't do the things I'm directed by Michael and Cody, my weight lose and muscle gains are stagnate. I contacted Training Spaces late one night when I was feeling frustrated with my lack of progress. Let me back up a bit... I'm a woman in my early 40's, two young kids, and I run about 2-3x a week. After my youngest became fairly self-sufficient, I decided to get back in shape. I thought it would be pretty easy because I'd done it before with my first kid. But this time, after working out for 3 months straight, I saw no progress. I even increased running to 7 days a week. And yet, every morning when I woke up, I felt like a truck hit me. I also noticed other changes, like falling/staying asleep became difficult, my cycle was off, etc. I did a bunch of research and realized I was going through perimenopause. One of the suggested methods to get through perimenopause is to build muscle and regain strength, so that's why, late one night, I found Training Spaces and decided to sign up. I researched a lot of places, and I even tried strength training on my own with an exercise mirror, which didn't work for me. I legit had no idea what I was doing and saw no progress. I realized I needed someone who knew what they were doing, so they can guide me through whatever this was. I'm now in week 7 with Charles, and here are the results I'm seeing: - My sleep is more regulated. I can fall/stay asleep for at least 6-7 hours a night, versus erratic 2-4 hour cycles before. - My cycle is closer to what it used to be, and I no longer have heavy symptoms. - I can eat almost anything I want without huge blood sugar spikes. - I am much stronger. I'm able to lift my 5-year old without taking out my back. - I have so much energy now. I wake up at 7 am, and literally go all day until 11 pm, and I feel fine. I used to crash around 3-4 pm, and wonder how I'd make it to the kid's bedtime, and by 9 pm, I'd be so exhausted (and still couldn't fall asleep!). - Lastly, though this wasn't a goal of mine, I'm now back to my pre-kid weight from 10 years ago. If I had known I'd feel this way, I would've started this process much sooner. I wouldn't have waited until I lost this much muscle before trying to build it back up again. I am grateful I found this place, and my trainer Charles, who's been so helpful and a joy to work with. So if you're a new mom, a new dad, a woman going through perimenopause or menopause, and you just feel exhausted or not quite yourself, I'd highly recommend taking the first step and reach out to these guys. This place is more like a community than a gym to me. Don't get me wrong they have more than enough workout equipment. They have have everything from sleds and battle ropes to Pilates reformers and treadmills as well as everything else in between. However it's the staff and the vibe of the place that makes me feel so at home. I highly recommend this gym; the level of personable touch, great equipment and community is off the charts compared to a regular Fitness 24 gym. If you are looking to get results, this is definitely the place to go. In 3 months, I've not only lost all my Covid pounds, but also starting to see my abs that was always hidden under my belly fat. I have worked with many trainers in the past, but nobody has ever successfully helped me stayed on a routine, until now. You know they say you are your own worst enemy? It's true. Every time I tried a new routine, I eventually got bored or lazy or somehow talked myself out of it. Well, I am still here 3 months in! You can definitely feel that trainers here care. Adriana is a wonderful personal trainer. She has transformed my fitness routine. Adriana has a variety of exercises including weight training, cardio, and high intensity. Both of my kids are doing personal training at Training Space this summer. My 14 year old son trained with Nate for 7 weeks so far and has lost 9 lbs! I have been very impressed and pleased since I became a member at Training Space Palo Alto. It's a brand new facility with a wide range of free weights and workout stations. They have everything from TRX to skiers and rowers. The staff is very friendly and unpretentious. The highlight for me has been my twice-weekly personal training sessions with Kaz Iranpour. He's helped me return to the gym after injuring myself at CrossFit.. He absolutely met me where I was - - and is helping me improve every time I see him. Great gym for those that want to get after it. No TVs or large social areas set the feel for the gym - all about business. It's compact but has everything you need (functional equipment, cardio, DBs, BBs, etc.). The trainers are extremely knowledgable and always willing to lend a hand. Further, the gym is rarely crowded and the facilities are clean. The gym partners with a meal service called Prepped, which does an excellent job of preparing healthy and enjoyable meals to tie in with your workouts. I have a very busy life. My business requires me to be flexible and I don't get to decide when my appointments are. I also have little kids that demands lots of time. Training with Brandon Pham makes this so much easier. I have been training with him since the gym just opened. He is easier to schedule compared to my previous trainers. Brandon always pushes me to the limit and I believe that's important for muscle growth. He will also work with you on nutrition to get things right.
