The coaches are the best
Kapeto A.

About three years ago my kids were finally sleeping through the night, they were in the cusp of leaving toddler-hood and as a working mom I finally had the energy to start thinking of myself a bit more. A nice acquaintance introduced me to this gym and I will admit that I was a bit intimidated. I've never really felt "at home" in a gym or workout place. But everyone was so nice and encouraging and from the first meeting this place showed me that it was really something else. We have officially been part of this community for three years now and I've never felt judged or diminished, rather appreciated and encouraged. Also, the community is so diverse, as are the coaches- who are seriously ALL amazing. It makes such a difference to see a range of bodies, ages, to hear from Celia Cruz to Chicago to M83. And they have such patience with my clambering children and even pups. I think seeing their mom lift heavy weights helps them see themselves as able and strong as well. My life is so much healthier and happier having this place to make me stronger and less stressed. I really do see this as one of the best investments I am doing in myself and well being for the long term. So! If you are local and are hoping to find a place to workout, that will take you as you are and just encourage you and push you to reach a stronger, healthier chapter of you you should check them out.

We are a year into our FL membership and the coaches have been great (and patient). The gym has done well to build a community.

I booked the complimentary 1:1 Pilates intro just thinking it would be a nice add on and even told a friend I wasn't planning to continue after. That completely changed after my session with Joan McCarthy. I'm so glad I happened to be paired with her for that complimentary session. She is truly exceptional. I ended up buying a large pack of sessions right after and now see her twice a week. We've even done a few double sessions which have been amazing. I'm already seeing real progress in my strength, flexibility, and overall toning, and the principles she teaches have helped me get so much more out of my Solidcore and other group workouts. What really stands out is her energy and approach. She has such a positive and motivating attitude, and she really pushes me to challenge myself, find my limits, and get the most out of every session. I've also learned so much more about fitness and overall health from working with her. She combines deep Pilates expertise with a dance background, and her hands on adjustments are amazing. She also sends an in depth breakdown after each session of what we worked on and is very responsive, which makes everything feel thoughtful and personalized. I'll be honest I waited to write this because I wanted to lock in my recurring time slots first, which probably says everything. I'm fully obsessed. Thank you Joan!

I had an extremely disappointing and uncomfortable experience with the front desk and management at…read moreEquinox. I arrived expecting to work out and was informed that I had a past-due balance from a previous membership. I genuinely did not know this balance existed. I had recently spoken with a Membership Advisor about signing up again, and this was never brought to my attention. To be very clear: I never asked Equinox to waive the balance or said that I would not pay it. I explained that I was willing to take care of it and asked whether I could pay it by the 15th while we resolved the access issues with my account. Instead, I felt like I was being held at the front desk, by Karina and at the front pressured to resolve everything immediately before I could even work out. The front desk employee also could not clearly answer basic questions I had about my membership and account access. Then the manager became involved and suggested that I had a history of late payments or similar issues. I told him I did not believe that was accurate and asked him to show me the record he was referring to. He responded that it was "on the computer." So I asked him to show me. He couldn't provide it. If you're going to make claims about a member's payment history, particularly while discussing an outstanding balance, you should be prepared to show the member the information you're relying on. The professional way to handle this would have been simple: take me into a private office, explain the balance and account history, show me the documentation supporting what was being claimed, answer my questions, and discuss an agreed-upon payment date. If we agreed that I would resolve the balance by the 15th, allowing me to complete my workout that day would have been a reasonable and respectful resolution. Instead, this happened at the front desk and left me feeling embarrassed, singled out, and treated as though I was trying to avoid paying something I had just learned existed. As a person of color, I also left seriously questioning whether I would have been spoken to and treated the same way if I were white. I cannot know another person's intent, but I can speak to how this interaction made me feel -- and no member should leave a premium fitness club wondering whether their race affected the level of dignity and respect they received. My complaint isn't about being asked to pay a legitimate balance. It's about how the situation was handled: the lack of transparency, unsupported statements about my payment history, the public nature of the interaction, and the way I was treated when I simply asked for answers and documentation. For a company positioning itself as a premium experience, Equinox should do significantly better.

When I was here, they seemed to update the lockers and it became automatic which means you don't need to bring your own lock. It's nice and safe here with the exception of people acting rude. Almost everyone in Palo Alto comes here to exercise. I like how they have a nice hot tub and sauna if you want to get spa style amenities. I came to the hot tub multiple times and it was the best experience I ever had. There is also plenty off parking on the weekdays. Drawback: This is a bit far from where I live but really worth it.

Check-in was easy enough, but they didn't ask if it was my first time at this location like they do at other studios. It's pretty straightforward though, so no big deal. I do like how they have a jar of free trial-sized Ouai shampoo just chilling at the front desk. Love free Ouai samples! Locker room is pretty small, especially after I just visited the Castro and Marina studios. It's fairly clean and the class I went to was half-full, so I didn't have to share my tread or floor spot. The wipes are also easily accessible! However, it seems like they have less bands compared to other locations. As I mentioned, the class wasn't even close to being packed, but there was only 1 light band left when I got to the station. Parking is plentiful as it's situated inside Stanford Mall, but you should still allow yourself ample time to get from the garage to the studio.

After completing those initial sessions, I realized they mainly consisted of using the gym machines to train core muscles. Unfortunately, the training package automatically renewed without clear notice and charged my credit card for another 4 sessions. Although I liked working with the trainer, I soon suffered a serious ankle sprain. I was bedridden for nearly a month and unable to drive for another month. When I finally recovered enough to return, I discovered my membership had been deactivated. I was not allowed to use my remaining training sessions. It has now been over a month, and they still have not reactivated my account despite multiple attempts. In total, I paid more than $600, yet I was unable to use the services I paid for because of my injury and their deactivation policy. To make matters worse, I was charged an additional $64 on the very day I got injured and called to cancel my session in advance. The lack of flexibility, compassion, and professionalism is deeply disappointing. Their policies feel greedy and punitive rather than customer-focused. I strongly recommend others think twice before signing up with this facility and its management.

I spent most of my time at the office and got out for some studio classes or the occasional weekend hike. I'd never played sports or worked out at a gym before. Jin was great about listening to my goals and putting together an approachable, challenging workout plan. For our workouts, I got immediate value just from the first few sessions because he helped fix a bunch of issues with my form. I really appreciated his focus on the correct form because I'd screwed up my back a few years ago and didn't want to re-injure myself. Our sessions start with a warmup, and then a full body workout with a bunch of compound lifts and other exercises. No workout is ever quite the same. As I got stronger he would increase the difficulty to ensure that it was challenging but not too difficult. After training with him for half a year, it's been a complete transformation. I dropped 15 pounds and look and feel much more fit! I never would have imagined that I'd be able to lift the weights I can or run the distances that I can run. I'm way more confident and motivated about going to the gym and I have Jin to thank! Last but not least Jin is just a really cool dude. Super positive and easy to talk to, so the time passes quickly!
