The box is tucked away at the very end of an industrial park in Springfield, right off Braddock road, there is ample parking on both sides of the building, and it comes equipped with everything you would expect of a Crossfit box, plus they have all sorts of fun Strongman stuff. In addition to Crossfit and Strongman, they also offer Olympic Lifting classes, Yoga, personal training, and complete the spectrum with additional nutrition classes. The owners, Erin and Sarah, really make an effort to get to know each new person and push you to perform each movement to the best of your ability. I love their programming, their desire to see you succeed and their ability to foster such a warm and welcoming environment to everyone-regardless of fitness level. I also love the emphasis on team building with blog entries, Facebook groups and weekly emails letting you know what's coming up. Trust me, if you are thinking to trying NOVA S&C you really should! Chances are, you will not regret it... I know I don't.

First and foremost, I loved the atmosphere; it feels of CrossFit at its roots. There's a large open matted area. With only a single garage door to the outside world, the air is warm and vibrant. Speed ropes, mobility equipment, lifting platforms, rings, etc. are all as expected. I greatly enjoyed the coaches and supportive athletes. Tom was focused, constantly providing constructive and tactful feedback to his team. Even when people weren't lifting, they wouldn't just wander off on their phones. Rather, when it wasn't your turn to lift, it was your turn to motivate. I wasn't there long enough to get a sense of how competitive this box is. At the very least, there's plenty of open gym time.

Overall, I enjoyed the class. It was mostly women for the Saturday boot camp, which I found on Class Pass. The instructor is a man and he's no-nonsense. Haha. Everyone participating in class was nice. It wasn't a "warm" environment but it seems like there's a community there. Overall, a good workout. I definitely would've liked more explanation about where things were, additional modifications for my bar, etc. But I got the job done!

I started lifting when I was in the army, sometime around 2006 and have always kinda "done my own…read morething" for many years since. Eventually, I started peaking out strength wise, and no matter what I did, I just seemed to be stuck. I simply figured that I wasn't ever going to get any stronger and that was that. That being said, in October of 2013, one of my (much stronger) friends had told me about checking out True Fitness because the trainers were also powerlifters and really know their stuff. I had the initial meeting with Elliot White who basically told me that my form was terrible and that I need to start all over again, but with guidance and lots of effort on my part, I would be considerably stronger than I was. I ended up going for it, and it was one of the best decision I could have ever made. Since then, I've almost doubled my strength, my flexibility is pretty amazing (especially given than I'm a pretty big at 250lbs) and I just feel great every day. I've gotten a lot more serious about my lifting, I've learned to eat much better than I used to, I've almost completely given up alcohol, and I'm even thinking about doing my first competition in April of 2014, something I had NEVER ever considered. Quite simply, my life changed for the better. If you've ever been curious about powerlifting, just need your form checked out, or just want to feel better about yourself without doing a ridiculous diet or anything, this is definitely the place to check out.
