When it's good it's good, when it's bad it's very bad. 5* for the lunch in the indoor/outdoor space out the back. Minus 3* for the cake. Let me explain. We ordered a red velvet cake and a carrot & orange cake to go following lunch. The red velvet cake wasn't red the whole way through (never seen this before!) and was definitely stale. On the other hand, the carrot & orange cake was fabulous! I've been here two or three times now and the service can be a bit patchy but it's never too long to wait for food. Major bonus points earned for the Presidente Andrea Pirlo burger with sweet potato fries. My boyfriend attests that this was divine!

The newest addition to the long line of cafe's on Stoke Newington Church Street would have gotten four stars, had it not been for my flatmate reporting the sighting of a mouse on the outdoor premises. It was outside in the courtyard, so I risked going to the cafe one day, and was pleasantly surprised at its chic interior, with good music. They mostly serve salads and sandwiches, and have a large number of takeaways attesting to the quality of food. The sandwiches are in the usual range of deli items, remarkable for the resonable 2.50/3.00 takeaway or eat in prices. I had a salmon sandwich on toasted rye bread as well as a latte for a fiver. No rodents of any kind were spotted, and I think the cafe is safe to eat in. Or if you're very squeamish, make your own sandwich for a takeaway in the park. I think you might miss out though on the warm homely interiors, with bright colors and leafy plants, that give the impression of being in the parlor of a friend's house.

First of all, what a stunning green exterior this place has. I know other aspects of the place need exploring, and may seem more important, but you have to admit it is a beautiful shade of green. Now that's out of the way, I have to say that the rest of the place is pretty damn fine, notably the cosy interior. The snug feeling can be attributed to its raw brickwork and quaint decoration. As with most good cafes, a decent selection of good quality sandwiches are on offer for a reasonable price. There is also free WiFi for customers. There is always a risk in opening a café in a highly populated café strip, but I get the feeling this little place will be just fine.

This is certainly the best place on green lanes for a quality (non-Turkish) coffee…read more The decor is comfortable and staff are helpful (though as is usual with these places you have to order at the till). Clientele are your white middle class regulars together with some of the young locals. Most keep themselves to themselves but I've occasionally sparked up a genuinely interesting conversation with an unsuspecting stranger in here! Family and kids-friendly with a little play area to keep the tots occupied. There is a bit of a local rivalry with nearby Moka- my take on it is that Blend is better for the coffee aficionados but Moka wins on ambience and range of eating options. Both are excellent options to while away your weekends in good company!

Wide offer of breakfasts and weekly changing lunches which all sound very tasty. I got a cappuccino (pic) and I find it not bad (I'm Italian so my standards might be little above average), though £ 2.50 is little overpriced in my opinion - whereas it may be cheap for London, I don't feel it's worth all this money, that's the reason why I give 4/5 stars. Will surely be back anyways, atmosphere for working is quite nice despite kids being noisy from time to time

I feel a little harsh by giving this a 2 star, but I think it's worthy for the food we got today…read more We ordered a couple of starters to share, the prawns and halloumi which the cheeses could of been grilled a little more so that it's more crispy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside. Next up I choose the cheeseburger and my friend had the T bone steak.. I must say I was jealous of their meal as my burger was a tad over cook and the fries wasnt as crispy as I expected. The coleslaw was good, but it was an good portion that I just couldn't finish. However the dessert display look really appetising and I went for the chocolate fondant and the apple tart. I must say give me dessert any day! The decor of the place is lovely and the vibes are very East London hipster style, but I don't think I will be rushing back in a hurry..

We ordered the calamari, when it came it looked amazing but tasted on point and delish. I've had calamari in different restaurants I would say this is one of my top places to get it. Anyways, we ordered the Grilled salmon, the Seabass fillet and Cordon Bleu breaded chicken. Dessert was a chocolate fondant with vanilla icecream. Everything was scrumptious. I would say friendly service, big portions (wasn't expecting it), lovely surroundings. Hygiene wise, clean.

0 stars! Went to…read moreRakkas to celebrate my brothers birthday in June 2023. After eating at the restaurant 3/5 of us had symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting including my brother. 1/5 had diarrhoea and upset stomach. On the day, the lamb chops had no flavour and I had to spit out a piece of meat I had in my mouth as it was really hard to chew. The prawns also did not seem to taste quite right. I am not one to complain so just paid the bill in full and left. I had eaten at the restaurant before going to celebrate my brothers birthday and had no issues, the food was also really nice which is why I decided to book here again to celebrate my brothers birthday. I contacted the restaurant the following day (17th June 2023) to inform them of myself and other celebrants becoming ill following eating in the restaurant, and have since contacted them on 8 separate occasions in addition to going to the restaurant in person for a response. I spoke with a man on 23rd June who said he was a manager in the restaurant, he said the email and receipt had gone to the directors and I should receive a response by 27th June latest. He also said that noone else had made a complaint about the food on the day our celebrants were at the restaurant. This was accusatory, as if I have fabricated 4 out of the 5 of us being ill the day after eating at the restaurant on the 16th June 2023. I am still yet to receive a reply. Aesthetically, the restaurant is nice but the food was tasteless and the company/directors have no values, ethos or care for their customers. My experience with Rakkas has been really awful and personally I will not use or recommend it to others again!!

I'm a big fan of the Turkish breakfast item called Menemen (tomatoes, scrambled eggs, peppers and…read moreonion) and they do this beautifully here. But that's not the only thing that's noteworthy about this place - I really enjoyed the Wan breakfast, which consists of various cheeses, spreads, sweet condiments, fried egg and plenty of warm pita bread. In fact, my friend - with whom I came to this place - had originally come to this place because he saw on their menu that they serve this special breakfast and apparently it's not easy to find it here in London. (He's Turkish by origin and always on the lookout for things that remind him of home.) Insider tips for eating the Wan breakfast: - generously spread the white/soft cheese (upper right bowl on my picture) on some pita bread and top it of with honey...heavenly! - put a slice of the feta cheese (lower right bowl on my image) on a piece of bread and top it off with a slice of tomato; - I liked to combine the olive mash (mid-left bowl) with the crumbled cheese (upper left); - dip your bread in tahini and pekmez and just enjoy; Also, I highly recommend coming here with at least two people and then order one Wan breakfast and one Menemen...that, combined with loads of cups of tea, will leep you busy for a while! Although, I haven't tried their lunch or dinner menu, I trust that it's equally good too.
