There is also a pool hall upstairs, which although nowhere near as good or big as Laverys it is perfect for pottering away the afternoon. While it's neighbour The Errigle may be busier, the craic is superior in the Pav and you unlike the great selection of beers ,you can't get that on draught. ;-)

Captains Topsy and Pixie play, in their own words '40's swing, 50's rock'n'roll, 60's girl groups, Motown, 80's alt pop and a load of shit/ brilliant stuff', well done girls on describing your own night, this is spot on! The music was amazering! Loads of sixties classics like 'These boots were made for Walkin' fitting snuggly between 'Walk like an Egyptian' and a bitta Dolly Parton 'Nine to Five'. There were also some amazingly crap tunes like Cotton Eye Joe, oh dear, but it was all in the name of good fun. Most people came dressed in cowgirl and cowboy outfiits, including one guy who went a bit far and wore a pair of leather chaps, cowboy boots with a pair of boxers underneath and a waistcoat. It ensured there was a 5 mile radius around this dude on the dancefloor for the entire night, but hey, he was enjoying himself. The downstairs bar is nice and elegant, but the TV's showing sport were really intrusive whilst trying to have a nice drink. Upstairs the atmosphere was a lot more relaxed. The mashed potatoes had a great pop of flavor, the Yorkshire pudding was fluffy not soggy, and the sausages melted in my mouth. The Chicken Burger had a unique flavor spice profile, with wonderfully crisp sweet potato fries. We also ate some sticky toffee pudding for dessert, that had a warm buttery goodness to it. Were able to try some good whiskey's here including A Friend in Hand whiskeys (this is an amazing whiskey store just down the street). The whole time we were there we got no rain (same as our first time) so we sat outside a lot, people had cute pups out there. Super nice. And so you could. That story probably paints this bar in quite a bad light. It certainly has a bit of a reputation for being a bit rough due to its location and tendency to sell after hours booze out the side door. But I've always quite enjoyed anytime I've been here. Its a bit old school and I wouldn't expect too many thrills and spills but it is a nice enough pub to go out for a few drinks. There is live music on from time to time and has a nice atmosphere if there is a good crowd in. The locals and staff are friendly and the selection and prices are pretty much standard for the city. It's maybe a little bit out of the way if you are on a pub crawl or a night out in the city but if not, then you could definitely do worse.

In my experience the gin serves are delicious (but expensive) and wine selection not the best, most people seem to stick to beer in this pub. Cocktails are good and in particular the Porn Star Martini is delicious. This is a lovely spot with a welcoming, relaxed vibe - snug in winter plus the bonus of outside seating for summertime.
