The pantry is the main restaurant located in the crowne plaza hotel in Boston/Natick. I was here on a business trip and had occasion to eat breakfast and lunch. For breakfast they have a modest but nice buffet spread, which I decided not to go for. Instead I ordered their eggs with sausage from the menu. The eggs were cooked over easy as ordered and the sausages were pretty decent. For lunch I got their Cuban sandwich. It was delicious. Come with a big appetite because the sandwich and fries were large enough that I packed half the meal to go, which served as a great snack the next day :). Friday morning business breakfast made me look like a food jedi... Breakfast was wonderful, service was very pleasant and the renovated restaurant is retro and full of light. Great experience. I had a cheese, tomato, prosciutto and arugula frittatta that was perfectly executed and presented - gooooooeeeyyyy cheese, lots of salty prosciutto and a gorgeous mound of arugula on top. I went here last night for a special all gluten free dinner. It was fun and delicious! They started us out with some appetizers and a cocktail. After, we have 4 courses of YUMMINESS. Octopus salad, pork tenderloin/pork belly, prime rib, chocolate mousse/marshmallow dessert. My favorite items with the taro chips, the pork entree and dessert! Natick is a bit out of the way, but if these items stay on Pantry's menu I would eat there if I was in the area! And I would definitely go back if they did another gluten free dinner read more

Brunch at the Pantry....AVOID! I've been to the Pantry and the Violet Thorn Bar several times since it was redone and opened about 1.5 years ago. It has been a slow decline as each layer of the management team that opened the place has moved on. Took my family to the new "brunch is back" at the Pantry event this weekend....the food, just OK...$29 was high for what it was. More importantly, there was no strong management, staff was confused about what to do--example], the food was put out at 10:30, while the sign says brunch starts at 10AM. Our table was dirty with food left on the floor and side of table from the previous diners....gross.. To be fair, the staff was very nice, however $29 for brunch for the quality of food was way to high---it just isn't worth it. Really....skip it. read more

I was here with my family over the weekend, and my mum asked that I write a review since she didn't think these were representative. We had a large group for a birthday. Food was pretty much as described on the menu - I think the only surprise was how big the grilled cheese sandwich was. Overall, the food was fine, the kind of comfort food I would like to have in my hotel if I was traveling for work for a week. That said, service was funky. They tried, but seemed to be missing at times. We were asked if we were ready to order as soon as the waiter finished passing out the menus; my 12 year old cousin's soft drink didn't make it to the table until after the entrees arrived and the waiter was reminded (though all the beer and one diet coke were served promptly), and requests for extra pita for the hummus platter were acknowledged but not fulfilled until everyone was done with their meals. They're trying, and in the right circumstances I'd return. I'll give them three stars for food, two for service, and round the average up since the staff was nice and seemed to be making an effort. read more

I regularly stay at the Crowne (and enjoy my stays) and also regularly order room service and eat breakfast here. I dare someone to say the the "All American Burger" and the fries aren't some of the best ever. I try not to eat whole meal every time I order it, but I cannot help myself. Yum! read more

The Pantry was a really great experience. It was certainly quiet as I don't think many people know about it, but the food was incredible and the service was good. One thing I particularly enjoyed was the pre-dinner wine tasting which helped us pair the right glass with our entrees. Filet was absolutely amazing and the wife enjoyed the Seafood Fra Diavalo. We ate their last night and despite the bad reviews we were really pleasantly surprised. Yes, the ambiance could be a lot better, it's way too bright for dinner although I guess it works for breakfast and lunch. I had the salmon with a lemon risotto which was fantastic (and rich), and my SO had the sirloin which was also fantastic and again rich with the demi glaze and scalloped potatoes. Drinks were a bit pricey $11 for a Jack and $8 beers. Service was slow to start but once we got our initial orders in it was fine. I'd go back for the food but they really need to work on the ambiance...it's odd eating nice food in cafeteria lighting. We ate here for the first time tonight with a groupon. The food was really good and presented beautifully but we felt a little rushed and there was only one other table of people there at the same time as us. I'm not sure if it was because we had the groupon but they wanted to know everything we were ordering at once. Dessert even before we had dinner. Then the dessert came out immediately after, I usually like to sit for a minute and digest! It was amazing though..a salted caramel chocolate torte..so pretty I had to take a pic of it and I don't usually take pictures of food! Went here for brunch this morning and was disappointed. Two stars for the cute ambivalence of kitchen ware and other cutlery and multiple Tvs. But food-wise...whomp. whomp. whomp. You could choose from the breakfast buffet that was a typical hotel buffet: eggs, breakfast meats, cereal, coffee/tea for $14. Other breakfast menu items sounded great and with affordable pricing ranging from $9-12. But when the food came out it was blah. My friend got an omelette that she created and said it was like one she could easily make at home. I ordered this turkey/bacon/cheese cranberry sandwich and it was dry and bad bread choice. The only redeeming food item was the blueberry pancakes. Service was super slow and it was not crowded. Unless you're staying at the hotel or have a family, I would skip this and head some place else. The hotel itself was definitely fun and funky...reminding me of hotels in Vegas so it was a disappointment that Pantry didn't live up to at least 3 stars. Business took me to the hotel. I'm a desert rat, it's November in Boston,and to me it was cold. So ate in a fair bit. First night, I had something with Chicken the waitress recommended. It was not really very good. I don't even remember what it was. Had a good desert though. Breakfast came with the room. And the buffet was very overrated. Same exact food every morning. And the one place where the fruit was, was way too tall. I'm not horribly short, but I could barely reach the food and that's not a good thing. They need to do something to make it different. Coffee was mediocre at best. Had dinner there on the last day as well, had their clam chowder. Was better than Legal Seafood. All in all, it was okay. Not great, but okay. read more

We went to The Pantry for Brunch around Noon on a recent Sunday. We had no wait and immediately got our own individual pot of coffee. We got the chocolate chip pancakes, the classic eggs Benedict and make-your-own frittata. My son said the pancakes were the best he's had in his entire life! This might actually not even be a restaurant. It is not open the hours they say they are open. We called Friday around noon to set up a reservation for Friday night. They advised us they were not open Monday through Thursday (not according to Yelp or google) but took our reservation for Friday night. Upon arriving for our reservation we were told they are not open but we could be served at the bar attached to the lobby next to them. I'm actually not sure this restaurant is ever open. read more

I had high hopes for this place but they just under delivered on every aspect. Not enough to complain but enough to reconsider going back. The positives: nice decor, great menu and good service. Prices are reasonable but portions are small. Needs improvement: the lighting is too bright. We ordered the burata with pistachio pesto and honeycomb with crostini. The crostini was rye sandwich loaf that was lightly toasted. Sliced bread is not crostini and the rye spiked the who flavor balance. For entrees we had the mussels with salad and the snapper. The mussels were good, the salad was half wilted. The snapper selection needs to be better. The sauce and veggies were great but they need to change their fish source. Dessert was a complete bomb. We ordered key lime pie but we got a pastry tart 4 inches wide with a ricotta lime ish filling. Practically no lime flavor and a rip off at $9. I'll be honest, I ordered the same salad with salmon for lunch that I did the night prior. My issue was that nobody was in the restaurant, I paid the same amount for the salad I did the night prior, and it resulted in getting salmon that was half the size of when I first got this salad and also waited 30 min for a salad. uhhhhhhh idk how hard it is to get mixed greens and salmon. I wanted to ask how long the order was going to take and the server was nowhere to be found after I placed my order until the food was ready. i don't think 30 min for a house salad with salmon makes any sense when I got it in 10 min the night before when the bar was BUSY... In a word, disgusting. In many words, this dinner was so underwhelming and stomach churning, it pains me to drive by this hotel in the morning on my way to work. Here's the story. I was starving one night when my SO came home, and neither of us had any intention of cooking, so we decided that we'd get on Rt 9 and stop at the first place we saw. Unfortunately, that place was the Pantry. We went in and it was completely empty, usually a bad sign but I was starving so I didn't care. The decor should have tipped us off, it was tacky and disorganized. We hastily ordered a "bruschetta" and were sent out some vile piece of bread with odd tasting cheese and soured tomatoes. We could only have a few bites before giving up and waiting for our main course. I was brought a "beet" salad, which was just a pile of turning arugula with three little pieces of raw beet on the side, and what looked like deep fried beets. It was disgusting, and not a beet salad. My SO got a croque messier, which should be simple as its just a grilled cheese with ham, but they managed to send out old and funky tasting meat with a limp and overbuttered loaf of bread. We called for the check and left this disgusting meal on the table. What was even more infuriating was that there was NO ONE there, but the 4 waiters on staff couldn't be bothered to bring us water, ask us how our food was, or bring us the check in a timely manner. That may have been ok if even their beer tap was working, which it wasn't, so we had to suffer through this "meal" completely sober. This place definitely exceeded my expectations. I was staying at the Crown for a business trip, and came down for breakfast. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and a cup of coffee. I was basically expecting typical hotel fare--middle of the road Benedict and reasonable everything else. When the food arrived, the first thing I tried was one of the breakfast potatoes. I'm not sure why I always do that--they are often stale tasting and not well seasoned. These were not at all that way! They were perfectly cooked--well seasoned, slight give on the outside, and fluffy in the middle. Wow, so far so good. I tried the Benedict, and it was quite good as well. Often the hollandaise is too sour for my taste, like the cooks use too much lemon juice; but here it was a nice tasty complement to the eggs and Canadian bacon. The eggs were also nicely done. I think even the Canadian bacon had a light sear on it. I finished the whole plate--no regrets. I would come back. read more

The best thing about this place is the website. Seriously. I was lured in after a friend of mine suggested we eat there. I was impressed by the website. Looked like a cool place and the menu had a good price point and a little bit for everyone- or so I thought. She had just seen The Pantry on the Phantom Gourmet. We were the only table in the restaurant on a Friday evening at 7 PM. The waitress brought popcorn over, and that was the best thing she put down on our table! The sundried tomato artichoke dip was mediocre. The flatbreads that came with it were great but there wasn't enough of them. The carrots, cauliflower, and celery that came with on the dish had been accidentally warmed. They weren't cooked, but I guess were rather left on a warming plate with the flatbreads to keep warm. They were slightly cooked, rubbery, disgusting. The tomato bisque was good, I will give them that. I then ordered the vegetable panini. I am not a fussy eater at all, but this thing was inedible. The vegetables weren't grilled, but cooked in a microwave would be my guess without any seasoning. Bland bland bland. Two bites and I was done. My friend who ordered the same thing agreed that it wasn't good. I dined with three friends, all agreed that this place wasn't the best. None of us took the large portion we left on our plates home in a doggy bag, that says a lot. The waitress was not the best, either. Trust me- avoid this place. read more

My husband and I went to the Pantry because I bought a Groupon ( 1 app, 2 main courses and a dessert) The waiter was very friendly and greeted us with a mason jar of water and popcorn. We asked if we could get the tomato salad instead of one of the apps and that was fine. The tomato salad was delicious! My husband ordered the steak frites and he ate everything on his plate. I ordered the sirloin with blue cheese potatoes. The steak was cooked just right. The potatoes were awesome!! There was only one other person dining there so we thought that was odd but we were pleasantly surprised! For dessert, I got cheesecake which was good and my hubby got the chocolate cake. In Summary, Good atmosphere, OK food, THE WORST and SLOWEST SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD! [Read on to learn why] My girlfriend and I wet here several months ago after buying a deal on Travelzoo (the deal is back up so it reminded me to tell about my experience). We went for dinner and were the last people to be seated because they were apparently closing (I think it was about 8pm on a Saturday night). I gave the waiter our voucher [good for 1 app, 2 entrees, 1 desserts] and we ordered 2 drinks. He came back after a while and we ordered the food and the waiter disappeared into the kitchen. After about 15 minutes he came back with our app. We ate the whole thing and waited another 15 or so. When he finally returned, we asked about our dinks and he said, "Oh, I will have to go to the bar to check for those..." So that's over a half hour just to get our drinks! [1 beer, 1 soda] We knew things were going to be bad at this point, but they got worse. After another 30 minutes, our entrees finally came out. The waiter asked if we needed anything and we asked for: 1 plate (we had 0), 1 steak knife (I ordered the STEAK Frites) and some ketchup. 15 mins later after eating off a serving plank, and cutting with a butter knife, I had to ask some other employee (looked like a manager?) for those 3 items. You would have thought that I asked for everything listed in "Green Eggs and Ham." She repeated what we needed 4 to 5 times to us and was still saying it as she walked into the kitchen. To her credit, she did appear relatively quickly and had all 3 correct items. We finished our meal and sat for another half hour for the waiter to appear. We ordered our dessert TO GO (3 tiny desserts rather then the one large listed in the travel zoo deal, but whatever...) and gave my credit card to him right away in an attempt to speed up the process in any way possible. I feel like that helped, because it only took him 10 minutes to run my single credit card... As soon as the card a hit my table I signed it and we were out of there! So it took 2.5+ hours to get an appetizer, 2 drinks, and 2 entrees. If you are thinking it was busy and we got lost in the shuffle, we were one of THREE tables! And there were 3 employees! The other 2 tables looked very angry as well. In all fairness, the atmosphere was very unique and rather interesting. I liked to cooking shows on the TV's that got your moth watering for your meal, if you are willing to wait long enough for it to make it to your table... The food was not bad, maybe even above average. Although, our entrees were somewhat cool by the time we got them. If you love mediocre food and terrible service, this is the place for you! I need to preface this by saying that we are seasoned restaurant goers. We have experienced a continuum of good and bad and always try our best to be "good customers". We were seated, completely ignored for some time and then greeted with attitude from what we would later find out was the MANAGER... First and foremost, it should never take 90 minutes for raw eggs and an untoasted bagel. The food was at best mediocre, the eggs were raw and when we pointed this out to the "manager", we were told that we were wrong. It took forever for anything to arrive and the poor service and attitude persisted with every new person we met. All in all, a terrible experience in what could have been easily a lovely setting. The staff's behavior ruined this and it is clear the management influences this terrible service from top-down. Don't go. Even if you're staying in the hotel. Got room service from here....not impressed, ribs were tough and the beet salad was lack luster

We went in on a Friday night around 7 and we were 1 of maybe 3 tables in the entire restaurant. The decor is pretty boring as is the background music is straight up elevator jazz. There needs to be more separation from the lobby as it feels like its just a flowing extension of the hotel sitting area. Our server was very attentive (although this could have just been because it was so dead), and he was nice and on top of everything with drinks and refills. The food was outstanding and we were incredibly happy with everything we ate (burgers, fries, wings, salad, etc). If you live in the area you owe it to yourself to come eat here. The menu is interesting and the chef is doing a great job executing simple comfort food. You wont be disappointed by the food that's for sure. read more

Pantry has several things going for it - 1.) Convenience: If you happen to be staying at the hotel you don't have to leave the building to eat here and they do deliver to your room 2.) Decor: This joint is fun with a capitol F. I always enjoy the atmosphere here. 3.) There is nothing on the evening menu that isn't great. The cobb salad is fabulous, the salmon amazing, the grilled cheese and tomato bisque will make your mouth water and the cheese plate is comparable to some of the best I've had in VT. Now the not so good... 1.) The service is inconsistent. Sometimes its amazing, other times its cringeworthy. 2.) Breakfast. Three times I've had breakfast here and been disappointed. The first time my dining companion ordered something that was really mislabeled and wound up with a dish that barely resembled it's description and was not at all what they wanted. The server never once checked on us or asked why the food sat untouched. We were just going to pay for it and call it a loss when the manager came over and asked us how things were. We told them and they took that item off of our bill. It was time for us to go so we wound up sharing my breakfast (which was lackluster) instead of them having their own meal. The second time I had breakfast there everything just tasted off. The coffee is not as good as you can get in two other spots in the hotel (the fourth floor and the little cafe that sells Starbucks) and the water is warm and likely from the tap. Though I do like that they give you a carafe. The final time I dined alone there solely out of convenience because I happened to be staying at the hotel and was starving. It was a relaxing breakfast, okay service, food wasn't bad. However I paid $4 for a grapefruit and when it came to the table it was HALF of a grapefruit. For that price you could have given me the whole thing. Will I eat here again? Yes, most likely. But probably not for breakfast. read more
