The rooms are well thought out and among the best I've been to I would say. There's always room for improvement, but these here are great!

We have one hour to unravel the mystery of what happened to him. The room itself has a very steampunk feel to it, which is really well done with lots of details and decorations. It's a bit dark in the beginning, as finding the light source is part of the game, but once you've gotten past this first hurdle, it's a quite well lit room with lots to discover. The storyline is very linear with lots of hints and instructions built into the room itself, which makes it very suitable for beginners, younger players, or couples. Children from 12 years are allowed to play this room without adult supervision, and it would definitely be solvable for a group of teenagers. So many different puzzles, riddles and clever machinery are part of this room, we didn't feel bored or stuck for a second and blasted through the plot in just 34 minutes. As all four of us have played A LOT of escape rooms though, we didn't think it was too easy at all. As experienced players I would just recommend having less players on your team. An experienced couple will likely get a good 45+ minutes out of this gorgeous room. The props and decorations all looked really well done, well placed, and within theme. A very solid room that was a lot of fun to play! I just wish there was a little more to do so we could have stayed in it longer as it was just so enjoyable!

I quite liked that you can start with those to mentally get ready while you wait. The person who worked there was very nice and answered all our questions with a smile. He introduced us to the game in which we would be finding the Holy Grail by solving puzzles set up by 'Da Vinci' himself. The puzzles were really inventive and I won't spoil it, but one moment in the game feels like magic. I have done a bunch of the escape games in London, but the challenges in this one felt fresh and fun and there was some real originality. I found the room challenges to be fairly straightforward and clear and the Da Vinci theme was well-done. We only asked for one hint and finished with 11 minutes to spare, so I think the difficulty level was perfect for us. I particularly liked the physical games just because they were quite fun, but all of them were good and there was a fair amount of all types of puzzles. Love Popups London gave me the opportunity to try this game and I definitely got lucky, it was one of the best in London that I have tried! The production values were excellent and the problems were varied and fun to solve. I would definitely recommend this game!

As an escape room aficionado I had heard about Room Escape Southend, a company that organsises…read morepop-up escape rooms, usually with a horror theme, for a few months at a time before switching to a different theme. We decided to get into the holiday spirit by visiting their 12 Deaths Of Christmas room, themed around a zombie santa. Sounds like creepy good fun, doesn't it? Well, it wasn't. But first things first.  You can buy individual tickets for this, up to 12 people can play. Our group of eight was joined by a family of four. There wasn't much of an introduction, we signed a waiver, were told the basic rules and led into the room very unceremoniously. Basically, Santa has become a zombie but won't chase you as long as he's distracted. You can distract him by either providing energy to the TV to let him watch Christmas shows, or by singing Christmas carols to him. Throughout the game we found fuses, which we could use to either provide 5mins of power to the TV or trade in for a hint. Sounded like a pretty cool idea, but there were quite a few problems with the room. First off, there were way too many people to be comfortable. I'm thinking eight or nine would have been okay, but twelve is just too many. There weren't nearly enough things to do for everyone.  The riddles and clues were quite straight forward and we solved most without a hitch. By the time we got to the last riddle (it was obvious that there were only two steps left to complete the room, for which we first had to open a lock and use what's inside for the last step) we had about 34 minutes left on the clock and no one captured by Santa yet.  We got really stuck on this riddle though, it was a terrible riddle that didn't make much sense, but apart from the there was also no indication of the connection to a number of items in a completely different location. The riddle was painted into a frame which also held the letter combination lock we needed to open. The logical conclusion would have been to get the four-letter combination from the riddle. Not so. There was an extra step that involved items on an unrelated shelf.  We traded our two last fuses for hints, which were completely useless. After that, tue attendant refused to help us in any way. We tried a bunch of random things, including the actual solution as we found out later, but the lock didn't budge; it must have stuck when we tried the correct solution. In the end, we spent 34 minutes making no progress whatsoever with the attendant, who stood right there in the room, refusing to help us unless we handed over another fuse. Which we obviously didn't have. After it was all over and the attendant finally told us what the solution was, we told her that we tried that and it didn't work; a second employee came storming into the room to prove to us that we didn't do it right. He put in the combination, the same we had tried half an hour before, opened the lock and snapped "See! It works! You did it wrong, you were wrong!" in a smug and arrogant manner. We were quite appalled by this treatment, so we simply left and decided we'll never give this company our patronage again. Not only is it terribly unprofessional to let patrons spend half an hour basically doing nothing when you know they had the right solution, far fetched as it may be, and the lock just stuck (whether that was due to our error in not aligning the letters quite right or in the lock sticking doesn't even matter) but we were also shouted at that it couldn't have possibly been a fault in the lock. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from these people, so I'd definitely recommend to avoid this company altogether. I'd give zero stars if that were possible.
