They were totally understaffed. One guy worked the bar and waited on the restaurant patrons. We were not immediately greeted when we came in. When we ordered they were out of so much on the menu. It was 6:15 and they were supposed to be open until 10. My husband's meal arrived cold. The bill was so strange that we had to try to use a menu to figure out if it was right or not. Don't eat there. The beautiful view and close proximity to mid-island are the only reasons I continue to patronize The Palms restaurant. The slow service and regular meals yet high pricing require much improvement. The Father's Day buffet today was especially subpar I had to have a word with the manager. Having doubts, I called few days prior to learn what was on the menu. Tested out the breakfast today... It was not the best experience. First off the service from the waiter Yvette was not good at all. She was kind of rude and seemed like she didn't want to be at work today. Steak and eggs was horrible, I ordered a medium cook on both the steak and the eggs but I got burnt hard steak. And it took so long to come I didn't care to send it back. Breakfast sandwich was great tasted well. Omelets were made different the only thing in it was the cheese and onions and tomatoes was placed under the eggs. Pancakes were thin and hard. read more

The night staff needs to be trained on how to serve and manage their tables. The first night we came here, it was the same thing. I gave it a pass because, you know, it's your first time here and you have expectations which aren't met, but next time they will get it right! Nope, it's the same service & same people. The bar maid is very rude. The only reason we came back is we didn't want to drive off the premise/hotel. But, I seriously didn't want to come back! A couple we met warned us to check our bills because they were known to stick things on the check and try and overcharge- more about this later The food was TERRIBLE! I mean cold, missing multiple items, appetizers came out after the meal, waitress was MIA for drink refills, half our group got our food and the other half got it 25 minutes later - BUT we didn't complain about anything, we just made a note never to come back because it was that bad.... Then we got our checks.... We had a few checks since we were multiple groups of people. Decided to do a quick bill look over after our conversations with another couple about this restaurant trying to scam people by adding things on their bill. The checks we very wrong but no big deal, we told the waitress so she could revise them. Then a slew of people came to our table 'grilling us' and telling us we DID order these items and they would not take them off our check. These people were extremely rude, unhelpful, and we were very taken back at their attitudes and how they were very aggressive. We were going to subtract these items off the bills and leave cash for the items we did receive. Security held us inside the restaurant and wouldn't let us go outside to call the police. They physically blocked us from leaving. We used our cell phones from inside the restaurant to call the police. Very frightening encounter. The police showed up. One waitress ran at us, screaming that we were 'white privileged'. They pulled her back inside the restaurant. She was like a wild animal. We were completely shocked. We were calm and collected the whole time and were very taken back and angered by these outrageous comments. We never acted entitled, we actually were quite calm given the crazy circumstances. Police came, we all spoke back and forth, the restaurant staff kept pressing the issue saying we were not leaving until we paid in full. We kept saying we were not paying for any of the items we didn't receive. We could have just paid but really felt like this is what they do and we weren't letting them get away with it. They kept telling us that they had cameras, and we kept telling them to pull the cameras for the police to view. The police went back and watched, and eventually these items were removed off our checks. We used this as an important life lesson for our children who had to observe this whole ordeal. Moral of the story, STAY AWAY from these criminals. Also, we've told a few people on the island what happened, and most of them said they heard that this happens there. Police also told us that they've been there before because when I asked if they are allowed to hold us inside the restaurant, they said 'yes, that's where they hold people' so this must happen frequently . It was a very beautiful place to sit and listen to music with the wind coming right off of the beach. The server was new so no issue with her just learning the ropes. The issues we had was they kept coming back to us and telling us they didn't have several things on the menu. It was getting a little ridiculous. We would definitely go back for the ambiance, however, Hoping these reviews help them step up their game. There were several 1 star reviews for similar issues. I'm not sure I would rate this place a 1 star simply because of how beautiful it is with the location. Also, other reviews mentioned that staff was unfriendly. We did not find that to be the case. I am a crucian, so I can roll with crucian attitude sometimes; but when it's your server at a restaurant, it gets old quick. Someone needs to train the wait staff. Our table laughed because the servers name tag even said "supervisor"! I didn't receive one "good evening" or a smile from anyone- just close if you don't want to be hospitable in a customer service role. Over priced food, rude staff. Don't waste your money. Tables right on the beach and great food can't overcome the horrific service. It is truly as though the staff could care less that you are there and that it is a complete bother to order. The waitress never once checked on us, took nearly 45 minutes to even have her take our order, 20 to just get some water. Run away before you're completely underwhelmed. Had dinner tonight. Ordered 2 appetizers & a bottle of wine. Wine arrives at room temp (~80F) and barely drinkable. 30 min later the waitress comes by and says "Oh, the cook just told me the crab cakes aren't available" so we sub the Seared Ahi Starter. When the "ahi" arrives it's beyond seared and is more like grilled; barely red anywhere. The entrees arrive; 3 orders of "Seared Mahi". They're all cooked all the way through and dry. More like grilled to exhaustion and no moisture. We need another bottle of wine and order the same red; the new one comes out chilled to refrigerator temp! Where do they store this stuff?? At least it's more drinkable this time. Finally want to pay our bill. It comes with a mandatory 18% tip. Wait for 20 min for the waitress to come back.....never saw her again. We ended up walking the folder to the waitress station and the others had no idea where our waitress is or was. Another one ran the charge card and we left into the night. Oh, the "Latin Music" was so loud all evening there's no way to have a conversation at your table. Unless you're desperately hungry, just stay away and heat up a pizza. read more

Went to watch the Sat night fire show- which was great! Food was horrible. Ordered the blackened salmon with the mac and cheese as the side and the pesto PASTA seafood dish. The pasta dish had no pasta and tons of onions apparently posing as pasta and the salmon was overcooked and salty and the mac and cheese was a brick that needed a fork and knife to cut. This place is definitely a great place for a foodie! A great menu featuring fresh local ingredients. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and in between the menu offers something for everyone. I recommend biscuits and gravy for breakfast, Chicken Quasadilla with mango salsa for lunch, and anything with local Rock Lobster for dinner! This place is quite dandy if I do say so myself. I had the chicken salad and there were big, lovely pieces of chicken atop a bunch of pretty greens. The dressing was nice and the view was fabulous. The bushwacker was probably the tastiest drink I've ever had, and it was packed full of really yummy types of alcohol (dark rum, amaretto, kahlua, and baileys irish cream). So, being that this restaurant comes recommended by friends and has decent reviews we decided to try this place out. DO NOT DO IT!!!! The music was decent - got loud at times & it was a solo guitarist playing & singing. We got seated. Yes, it was valentines so we expected a bit of a wait. But nonetheless we were seated rapidly. The waitress came shortly after and took drink orders....then we waited...and waited...and waited. The blended/mixed drink came after about a 15min wait...took another 15mins for the 3 beers, 1 iced tea and 1 bottle beer. The 3 draught beers were served in.....STYROFOAM CUPS...yes you read that right. So, after about 45mins we had our drinks. Then we waited...and waited...and waited...we drank our drinks...we waited...45mins later she finally comes back to see what we want to order. 4 cups of soup & an order of fried pickles for appetizer....the soups came out about 20mins later. The pickles were no where in sight...took about 30mins and the 5 salads and 1 BLT arrived and so did the pickles. The soup was good, tasted like a vodka marinara sauce on top of pasta (it was tomato basil). The BLT was supposed to have no tomato - she repeated this to me twice...it came with tomato. $12 for the BLT...a single leaf of lettuce. 2 slices of bacon on thin white bread...and it came with fries. Yes...again you read that right...2 slices of bacon for the entire sandwich...oh and it came with fries. 3 of the salads were the Old Fashioned Chef salad - supposed to have hard boiled egg....supposed to have per the menu...it didn't...none of them did & it tasted old...did not taste fresh at all. The 2 caesar salads seemed to be ok. Honestly, the food is mediocre at best. The service tonight was really lousy. Definitely did not warrant the 18% tip that was automatically charged. I hope that this isn't the norm...I really do. Maybe tonight was a fluke, maybe it wasn't. Wow!! Scott, (the chef here) , is world class ! If you are here in St Croix - come and taste the best food you've ever had. Scott the chef, truly is world class, the property is under new ownership and they've brought some excellent staff onboard. We are looking forward to what will be next at this resort. Sandy & Lance were only 4 days into owning this resort when hurricane Irma hit the island. Under what, would no doubt be, difficult circumstances the whole crew circled the wagons and kept the resort running. We were so happy to find this gem ! Seriously, they saved our lives from what could have been extremely nasty outcome. A big thank you to Sandy, Lance, Laura and the whole staff at the Palms at Pelican Cove Resort ! Kind of a stuffy bunch!! Our group of 4 went in to the bar on Thursday night for a couple of drinks and conversation. We were laughing a bit and having fun with another guest at the bar who was having a birthday. Got some of the other folks involved in singing the b day song. Most of the stuffy folks at surrounding tables were unamused. The bartenders were weak and inattentive. They closed down at 9pm. No music. Worst restaurant experience of my life. I understand island time and I'm always quite patient. My girlfriend and I were seated and immediately told the food might take longer because of one large table, which was no big deal. We ordered an appetizer and some sandwiches and were enjoying some drinks. After a half a hour without our appetizer we started to get curious. The one hour mark came and still no appetizer. The one hour and 20 minute mark came and past. This is when the waitress came to tell us that the previously stated table ordered the remaining ahi tuna and that they were now out of the ahi tuna as the large table was packing up and leaving. The constant reminder of the larger table and obvious priority to that table was unacceptable and unprofessional. With all the great food options on St Croix please spend you valuable vacation time and money elsewhere! read more

The location ocean side is amazing! Entertainers are worth the visit. Steel Pan Kevin, Fire Dancers and Latin night are definitely worth the visit. The food is pretty good but the service is lacking. I've been several times and food arrived about 50% of the time after ordering. My last visit, sides weren't delivered, food took forever to arrive and manager said we should have made reservations. If you can't handle the people, kindly decline to seat or serve us. My suggestion, enjoy the entertainment and a drink (which is also difficult to receive on occasion) or be prepared to wait for food that may or may not arrive. With more service personnel this could be a 5 star establishment. read more

One of my girlfriends and I stayed at the Palms for a week away. We loved everyone in the place. We ate almost all of our meals except maybe 2 dinners, at the Palms restaurant. We were SO pleased with the food, can't even describe it. We did not have anything there that was even mediocre, everything was deliscous! The fish fry was probably the best I have ever had! The service was a little slow at times, but one of the reasons to go to the caribean is to be on Island time! We found that , even though I am not a buffet person, the food was very tasty and there it was kept full the entire time! The entertainment , while a tad cheesy , was still fun and entertaining. The price was not expensive for island prices, so people should relax and just have fun! The entire staff makes that possible! They all went out of their way . read more

So we've noticed on St Croix that you shouldn't go to a restaurant starving! Hah :) the hurry is just not the same as in the States. So I was surprised when the dinner came out fairly quickly... 20 min or so, but also, it was delicious! Been here going on three weeks and our best dinner yet! NY strip steak with cheese, potato & beef soup and steamed veggies with a glass of Cabernet... Perfect.
