Before they came for the job our townhouse was white. After they left, it was still white. But was it? This was not the same townhouse than before by any means. He is a top notch professional painter (he's licensed) with reasonable rates who uses the best materials, takes pains to restore and prepare surfaces, and does a perfect job of actual painting. He's highly responsible, works efficiently but carefully, and communicates well, so that we his customers knew when to expect him and what to expect would be happening. That's the short version. If you want to know more, read on. It had been years--actually, decades--since our home had been completely painted inside and out, and Nestor's was one of a couple of professional estimates we had. Another was from a painter who came highly recommended from a couple of colleagues. But it was clear in talking with Nestor and hearing his insightful comments as he looked over the house that he would do the more thorough, careful job, so it was relatively easy to choose him when he sent the better estimate. We had him start on the exterior, which he pressure cleaned (also doing our deck and walkways while he was at it) and scraped after expertly trimming vegetation against walls. Large areas of paint came off down to the original concrete, which meant a big cleanup job for him (we're still seeing small chips of paint, but that's hard to avoid), but also meant that the top of the line Benjamin-Moore primer and paint he applied (approved by Coral Gables in our permit) will truly last and not flake as our neighbor's house paint has. I expect that his painting and caulking of the fascia and soffit will also give us needed termite protection. The lines between different paint colors are clean, and had there been any paint splattered on our decks or porch, we would have seen it; there was none, just as inside the house the painting could not have been neater. Because he's so thorough in preparing surfaces, he filled and taped nearly twenty ceiling and wall cracks and sanded doors and moldings before painting the ceilings, walls and trim with the best Benjamin-Moore paints. Although the job took at least a couple of weeks, he worked quickly, moving furniture and even decorative artwork and ceramics we had on bureaus and shelves that were against walls, never chipping or cracking anything. I must say, each day was a pleasant surprise. I particularly remember coming home one day to what seemed a new living room after having left it in the morning with ceiling cracks and hopelessly chipped molding, an experience I had many times. So is there a down side to hiring Nestor? He did ask for more than his estimate for the exterior when he discovered the additional painting he'd have to do after cleaning, but the price was still reasonable, and he stuck to his estimate on the interior. I can't recommend a better painter. PS A year later the paint remains fresh and bright, and friends to whom we recommended Nestor to do their painting have kept thanking us.
