I envisioned a space I could cultivate a herb and vegetable garden each year that would complement my modest backyard. This talented woodworker exceeded all my expectations. He and I arrived at a lovely and practical horseshoe design with lots of interior space to move around. The sturdy door facing my gardening shed made for easy access to my all my tools and protected my precious veggies from any critters. From the sturdy construction to the precise preparation of the beds and expertly planted starter vegetable plants, every aspect of Travis' work reflects a true passion for quality and sustainability. Thrilled with the results and eager to watch my garden flourish thanks to their expertise.

Even before the project began, Marty provided an incredible amount of time and expertise that helped us get the project going, guiding us through everything from wood selection and preservation of historic value to safety protocols and the production timeline. While it took less than three weeks to replace the two main flights in the house, the end product demonstrated care and master craftsmanship, as ever single tread had to be created by hand by Marty's carpenters to follow the century-old curvature of our stairs (nothing factory produced). We came home to an almost spotless house (I couldn't find dust anywhere) and two staircases that are the most solid structures now within our home. We couldn't be more thrilled with the results and can't wait to complete the painting and sealing. Thank you Marty and crew!

Marty and his crew recently replaced 2 flights from my 100+ year old house (they even found news papers in the steps from 1918!). I had 3 contractors prior take a look at these stairs but didn't feel confident in their approach or solution. Marty and his crew looked at the stairs like it was just another Tuesday. Professional, knowledgeable and reliable. 10/10, I would recommend them across the board. I added some before and afters (before the staining and painting)

I came across Intelligent…read moreKitchen (IK) as my family was in need of design and project management help for our apartment renovation. We had met with a number of design build firms but were not finding what we were looking for in personalized attention. When I first met IK, the project was a certain size - one kitchen and one bathroom, possibly two bathrooms. After we met IK, heard their ideas and shared some of our dream items for our family home, we decided to re-design our ENTIRE apartment using IK as our design team for architectural services and selections across 2300 interior square feet. This included redesigning our apartment layout, tripling the size of our kitchen and gutting 3 full bathrooms and enhancing one other bathroom. We could not have done it without Lauren, Olga, Adriana and the entire IK team of designers and project managers. IK is on top of it all. We had weekly design and logistics meetings that included our budget tracking and our selection tracking. They were able to show us what our apartment was going to look like through amazing renderings that were so life-like, it was the first time I was able to truly see what I was putting together. They worked with us on finishing selections, coordination with the contracting team over 6 months with multiple weekly visits, the architect and expeditors, the ancillary services and resources for glass, marble, cabinetry and more. IK was able to deliver us the home of our dreams in NYC. Although it was a complicated and nearly year long project, we felt ready to take it all on because of IK and their team and their contacts. They were there for us every step of the way, kept us on budget and were able to meet with varying providers when we weren't, acting like our own right hand. I would recommend IK to anyone looking to do a bathroom or a kitchen or a complete and total renovation just like ours. Matter of fact, I have already referred several friends and neighbors to them. IK makes you feel like you are the only client they are working with and acted with transparency and charm each and every time. Thank you IK!

But the job they did deserves recognition. Among the many people worth a shout-out: designer Chaya Uzan whose enthusiasm and ideas gave us a sense that our project was quite special; and Robbie Goldberg, our day-to-day contact and project manager, who brought a craftsman's eye to all aspects of the job. When problems were encountered, problems were fixed. An example: once we installed a new oven in the kitchen we realized that we would have to do without a favorite built-in spice cabinet. Robbie came up with ingenious fix requiring some custom carpentry so that the spice rack did not disappear but became an integral of the whole. Anthony, our renovation expert, was our first contact with A to Z. He encouraged us not to give up on what we wanted the project to look like even though other renovators had told us it was impossible to do. He also offered to answer any questions we might have along the way. Then there's Shevy, the permit and insurance coordinator. She dealt with the necessary paperwork and kept the inspectors at bay so we did not have to deal with those headaches. And last but not least, Mario, the site manager, who was there every day, hands-on, always professional and pleasant. On that note, the entire team seemed to like one another and treated us and each other with a refreshing degree of decency and consideration. To summarize: The team at ATOZ was thoroughly professional and kept us informed with clear, consistent communication every step of the way. Importantly, the team worked efficiently to stay on schedule and were fair when an unexpected issues arose, providing clear solutions. The final result is exceptional, and the quality of work exceeded our expectations. We would not hesitate to recommend ATOZ to anyone.

From reading various blogs, people seem to generally be pleased with the quality of their cabinets. We wanted to save money where we could and the cabinets were an area where we didn't have strong preferences. * They're a small operation of a husband/wife team, both of whom are RPI graduates with engineering degrees. As someone who went to a engineering-focused university myself, this was something that appealed to me. They're able to do minor electrical, plumbing, and drywall work in addition to the cabinet installation which is nice so you don't have to hire additional folks. One thing we really appreciated was that Peter and Lissa's estimated schedule for their work was spot on. In the end, we were super pleased with the final result! Peter's attention to detail in his work is second to none -- I wouldn't expect anything less from an RPI engineering alum. :) It's so hard to find service professionals these days who provide the quality of work that Basic Builders did. From his original on-site visit to giving his honest opinion on every question we had along the way and obviously the gorgeous final result -- absolutely an amazing experience and we look forward to recommending them for anyone in the NYC metro area interested in doing a kitchen renovation with IKEA cabinets.
