There's not much going on in the village of Rock, Cornwall. It is a place many tourists go through…read moreon their way to Polzeath Beach, via the ferry from the much busier and much more attractive Padstow. There's not even much of the rock quarry visible that gave the place its name. So IF you're heading to Rock, why not stop at this rather nice restaurant which offers brilliant views of the bay. The menu is split into three time schedules, breakfast, lunch (12 to 6 p.m.) and dinner (after 6). The range is a bit higher key than the usual pub grub, and the chicken breast (topped with bacon and cheese) I opted for was rather nice indeed. The beer range is limited, especially on the hand-pumps - similar to the Rock Road Bar & Grill which inhabits the same building - and they may indeed be one item. Korev and some international lagers are available though. The view is indeed splendid and the staff were really nice when I visited. The outside seating can be covered, but it was not on this rather warm and sunny June day. Since there are very few alternatives here, I'd give The Rock Inn thumbs up. There is truly no real reason to go to Rock in the first place, but this one might be it.

Padstow is a very touristy place, and the harbour promenade is rather narrow - so the area around the pub, and the pub itself, can get verrrrryyyy busy on weekends and on weekday evenings. People with claustrophobia issues might feel a tad uncomfortable during these peak hours. The Shipwrights is very "old-style", which appeals to middle-aged punters such as myself. The smallish outside seating areas to the front offer a nice view of the harbour, but again can feel cramped due to the sheer popularity of the place. St. Austell ales are kept fresh on tap, the prices are slightly elevated as you'd expect . Solid pub food is available, too. Certainly one of the better pub options in Padstow.

What a delightful little pub! We recently stayed in Tresparrett after our wedding for a few days…read moreand were situated just over the road from The Horseshoe which we frequented most nights. In all honesty I was expecting a little bit of a 'wicker man' vibe but the pub is populated by friendly locals and staff who are more than happy to bring you into the fold. There's a decent selection of beers and ciders including some local Sharps beers and the ever deadly Cornish Rattler cider! All the food is prepared by Pat (the landlady) who supplements a fairly extensive menu with 5 or 6 specials that change pretty frequently - everything from freshly caught fish to roast pheasant is on offer. On a Wednesday the fish and chip van rolls into this lovely little hamlet and you can place your orders at the pub and enjoy a couple of pints before either taking your dinner home or eating it there! There wasn't any music on when we were there but there was plenty of signs up advertising entertainment to keep you occupied in this sleepy little place. A cracking pub in a cracking little place, we're already planning our next trip back!

The food is cheap and cheerful and the staff do their best. It probably didn't help that, when we were there, the couple running the place were getting divorced the next week and losing their licence. That said, though, it is a real shock to the system after some of the gems in the surrounding countryside. Personally, I'd suggest avoiding at all costs.

Standard pub fare, but well done and a nice piece of fish. A good atmosphere in the main bar too, there isn't much else in the area and this place does well by its regular clientele.
