My Experience With Stem Cell Therapy…read more I had been living with hip pain for nearly 5 years in the right hip and August of 2018 it also started in my left hip. Severe arthritis from a diagnosis of Lyme disease. I had been taking anti-inflammatory supplements for about 4 years and getting through the pain with Excedrine Extra Strength, massage, heating pads, and hot baths with Epson salts. In an effort to avoid a hip replacement I went on line and did some research on Stem cell injections. Everything came across in a positive light in the patient reviews that I read. The price tag to have the injections was concerning, but I needed to do something to get my life back on track. I called Wisconsin Stem cell in Oconomowoc WI and they had me come in for a free consultation. They gave a positive presentation and took x-rays of my hips and gave a big thumbs up and the go ahead to have the stem cell injections. "I was a good candidate" according to them. I now doubt that the x-rays showed just how poor the condition of my hips were ...or they failed to acknowledge that fact and saw that I was able to fork out the $. The magic Stem cell cure was not to be my answer, but I did not know that at this point. I moved ahead with the plan to have Umbilical stem cell injections in both hips. I was instructed to go off any anti-inflammatory supplements and the Excedrine for the 2 weeks prior to my procedure. On March 4, 2019 with hugely hopeful expectations I went in for the stem cell procedure on both hips. I arrived at the clinic with high hopes that this was going to be my answer and cure. After a short wait for the Doctor to arrive I was taken back to the examination room where I was to receive the injections and I laid on the table on my back. When the Dr. arrived he went quickly to work. There was no numbing of any kind administered to me prior to the injections. I had to just grin and bear it! Mind you I was already dealing with significant pain in both hips. The first injection positioned wrong and the Dr. advised me he would have to reposition the needle...REALLY?!! YIKES.. Grin and bear it again! Not a pleasant experience. He did get it right the 2nd try. For the amount of money I paid, the 1st time should have been dead on correct. The pain from the injection was nauseating but it did pass within 5 minutes or so. I asked him to give me a little time between injections which he did. The 2nd hip injection went better but definitely was not fun. I felt very light headed, nauseous, and had to ask for a cold wash cloth to cool my face. This feeling lasted about 8-10 minutes or so. Once I felt better I got dressed and left for home. Upon leaving I was instructed to not use any anti-inflammatory supplements or pain medicine for 6-8 weeks. I also was not to use a heating pad or take hot baths above 100°. I could only take Tylenol. All the things I had discovered that would handle my pain were no longer options for me for the time being. Needless to say the next 6-8 weeks were awful dealing with pain. I also became extremely exhausted from dealing with the pain. Many mornings I was in tears just to get up and shower to go to work. I did receive a couple of follow up calls from the clinic asking how I was doing and I was very honest about what I was dealing with and the real discomfort I was experiencing. They encouraged me to "hang in there" until that 6 week mark and then I could get medicine for pain from my regular Doctor. Finally at the 6 week mark I did contact my Family Dr. and he prescribed some pain medicine to help me deal with all the pain. By now I had started using trekking poles to navigate. This Plan of was not working for me and I became unwilling to wait any longer to find some relief so I consulted with my family Dr. and he recommended hip replacement surgery. Through an act of God I was directed to an awesome surgeon and the plan was set in motion to move ahead with an anterior approach right hip replacement surgery. I contacted the Stem cell clinic and signed a release form giving permission to send my x-rays to the surgeon. The surgeons office never received these even after I called Wisconsin Stem cell back to inform them the x-rays never arrived. I did have my regular clinic also send a set taken earlier and the surgeon was able to use them. My Hip surgery took place on August 5th, 2019 and by my 2 week check up I was walking without assistance. When the surgeon removed the ball from the top of my femur bone it was in such poor condition he took photos of it to show me why I was in such pain. I am 5 weeks post surgery and doing so much better. I never should have detoured and delayed by wasting time on the expensive, non productive stem cell procedure. I am scheduled to have the left hip replaced in October so I am now on the road to getting my life back. My first day back to work put me in joyful tears as I walked to my desk and I did not limp in pain.

I received stem cell injections in my L4-L5 disc and in my sacroiliac joint. Over a year later and…read morethere is absolutely no improvement in any of the areas. $6850 wasted!
