None of the workers wore masks...at all. I personally don't want my food to be prepared by someone who doesn't wear a mask.

Well that alone got me to make a u-turn and find a parking space to check them out even though I didn't really need anything. Well it doesn't seem to be much of an attraction to the folks here in Morgan City, Louisiana, the store was mostly empty and those here appeared to have stopped in to pick up a few items not to grocery shop, all the checkout lanes were empty and the employees here were just hanging out. I did see a few interesting things that I would never see on the shelves in Florida especially in the meat case, besides the normal Cajun delicacies I did see a whole pig's head which I guess isn't all that unusual if you're making some hog head cheese which has nothing to do with dairy if you're not from around these parts. It was a fairly interesting walk through, the air conditioning was working good so it was nice to get out of the humidity for a few minutes. I had no interaction with any of the staff although I walked passed a few of them, it seemed they were as anxious to get out of here as I was. This is not a place I would be compelled to return to but glad I stopped in, now I know...

The meat is pre-seasoned, always fresh, delicious, and priced wonderfully. Do not be intimidated by the possible language barrier. The employees will figure out what you need! I go there for the restaurant, but they have a fantastic meat market, and they have cheeses from all over Latin America. The food is authentic Mexican cuisine. Delicious, and mostly healthy! I believe it is the healthiest place to eat in the area. I often get their sopes, tacos, or... can't remember what it is called! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!! Sorry... Well, the last time I went there I got one of their enchilada dishes, and, holy guacamole!! They were the best enchiladas I have ever graced my mouth with! Moving along... there is a language barrier. I speak pretty decent Spanish, so it ain't no thang to me. If it is a problem for you, well, they came up with a brilliant solution! These vatos no son idiotos! The menu is posted in pictures on the wall. Their menu is ginormous. The selection is out of this world! Or, at least, beyond our country's borders? Anywho... At times you will see the cook running to the produce section of the market to get fresh veggies for the dish you just ordered. It is great. And, the variety of hot sauces they make will blow you away! They do about 6 different sauces, only some of them are presented on a given day. On occasion, they are all available. There is some drawback here... Sometimes the wait is longer than desired. At times this is completely reasonable as the place gets packed like sardines. But... there is also a time, here and there, where the place is empty, and it takes 20 or soooo minutes to get your food. If you are worried about this, order 2 tacos de lengua with your meal, and they will come out before the rest of your food! Enjoy!

For the uninitiated: Tasso is fast-cured, seasoned, and smoked pork shoulder. It's used in stews and simmered foods, softening as it cooks, adding a delicious, unique flavor and bite that's typical of many Southern Louisiana (read: Cajun) dishes. Tasso's difficult to describe, but you'll know it when you taste it. I just received four 1-lb. packages of tasso, shipped from Bourgeois' smokehouse in Gray, LA via FedEx 2Day. The order arrived in good shape, and though the ice packs surrounding the meats had melted, the tasso was smoked (and so, fully-cooked) and it was vacuum-sealed. It went straight into my freezer, and it'll be fine. The cost to ship from Lafourche Parish to San Diego doubled the price of the product, from $7.24/lb to around $15, but I pay that much (or more) for quality steaks and seafood, here at home, and it was my choice to spend top-dollar for meat that I know, from experience, will make my gumbo, red beans, etc. taste better than I could otherwise make them. Kudos to the folks at Bourgeois Meat Market for offering a high-quality product, and for handling the purchase and shipping in a professional manner. I like visiting their shop when I'm in the area, but I LOVE that they don't make me get on a plane to eat what they're cookin'!

We used to love driving here for the ride to get great boudin and spend a couple hundred dollars. Being disappointed, I called and spoke to one of the owners about my "crawfish" boudin and asked if they were experiencing a drought with their crawfish. He replied, no and that they actually put more crawfish in their boudin this time. I'm like sir, no way. I've been coming here since 2018 and I know the difference. There was more rice and seasoning as opposed to what it's advertised as. I mean, honestly, if he'd said yeah, we're experiencing the same 2024 crawfish season drought that has been happening everywhere because of the saltwater intrusion, then I could understand but to lie and deny the difference was asinine. I thought perhaps they have loads of crawfish frozen somewhere to avoid a drought but the difference between the prior year's crawfish boudin in shape, color and taste is very noticeable from the 2024's boudin. Today's boudin looks like red hot links on steroids minus the red color. C'mon, just be honest, sheeeesh! While the truth matters, I won't be back anymore. Take a look at the pics and you can see the difference. Today, I bought seasoned rice boudin and not crawfish boudin.
