Blue Box Seafood Company - Dungeness crab roll and chips

We ordered the halibut roll, the crab roll, and a crab cocktail. The halibut roll came out looking just like the crab roll, not fried but fresh. Halibut isn't my favorite of the coastal fish dishes but my husband said it was good. I really enjoyed the crab roll which was filled nicely in a toasted, soft, buttered roll just like the kind you get in Maine. The chips were a nice addition as well as the pickle. The crab cocktail was good, small, but good. The cocktail sauce could have used more kick to it as it felt ketchup like with a bit too much sweetness. It was a dreary day and the wind was blowing so it made the entire outdoor experience a bit too cold. Even with the plastic sides of the tent up it was cold. I wished they had turned the space heaters on so the experience could have been more comfortable. Parking was easy on the pier as no one was around. There was no entertainment either other than the howling wind. The service was very minimal as ordering was done at the food truck window, food was picked up from there, and we had to bus our own table.

The place is made up of shipping containers painted Blue (hence the name) One container is a food truck. We ordered a crab roll and a halibut roll. Both were heaped full of local goodness The next container is a bar- we opted for a hazy IPA and a glass of Pinot. Third container is the stage for the band. There is a dance floor space and many folks were enjoying the band and dancing the evening away. We grabbed a seat at one of the many picnic tables and listened to the band while we dig into the rolls. Nearby there were some serious games of bags going down. Definitely will return when we are back in Winchester Bay!

The cod was lightly battered, moist, hot and flaky. Excellent prawns and really good clam chowder. Comes with coleslaw and garlic bread. The service was very good, great timing and friendly too. Casual coastal vibe. Soft rock music at appropriate volume so as not to interfere with conversation. We did not have dessert, maybe next time. Total cost $42.

Mondays & Tuesdays in Coos Bay & North Bend are disappointing, because many of the best restaurants are closed on those days. Not the case w/ Harbor Lights, they're open on all the days. I loved their smoked turkey sandwich & their Marionberry lemonade; I could probably eat that daily. The kids loved their pulled pork sandwich & hamburgers. They have friendly, great service each time we go. It's been impossible not to be a glutton here. I had cheesecake for dessert & a peanut butter pie to go. I wish they still had their lava cake, but they have plenty of other options to choose between. I'm looking forward to the next trip already.

Finally, with friends visiting from Washington, we made a special trip up to Reedsport, just to try it out. Best dining experience for a long time, for each of us! We called in for reservations, and the host nabbed us a table by the window, with an incredible view out across the bay. Upon arrival, Ron greeted us like we were family, and promptly offered us a tour of this very unique facility. The remains of a retired Coast Guard cutter, the entry way brings you into what looks to be a steel galleyway. Portholes peek through to the bar area and dining rooms. Up top, guests can reserve a private dining room, built from the original Bridge Cabin of the ship! Ron's original artwork adorned the walls of the place, and were quite unique - definitely adds to the decor. We sat down with the menu, and were pleased with the excellent variety of items available. We started off with the Clams Portuguese appetizer, and all LOVED it! In my opinion, it could have included a few more wheels of the Linguica, but the flavor was perfect. The drinks menu was very inviting, but considering that we were all extending our Dry January tradition, opted to try them on another visit. For our main course, my partner ordered the Beef Stroganoff. Being an aficionado of this dish, and having her own special recipe herself, she really loved how the flavors blended. Our guests ordered the Spaghetti di Frutti di Mare, and the Shrimp Louis salad. Both were delicious! I requested the Huckleberry-glazed Salmon, and was delighted with the consistency. The turmeric rice side dish was fantastic as well. Our favorite item was the Flowerpot Bread - a dense, two-toned baked roll, with a crusty shell. Very nice for wiping out all the delicious sauce residue from our meals. The parking was just a minor challenge; it is shared with the restaurant next door, so we ended up parking in what seemed to be boat trailer spots. Fortunately, there were no boats coming or going that evening, but it could be dicey during salmon season. We will definitely be back soon, however, to try out some of the other excellent-looking menu items!

Went to Big Fish for a couple of birthday dinners and was very excited to try the food that had been recommended The appetizers were delicious clams Portuguese and coconut shrimp were definitely tasty they were out of clam strips. Ordered the cod, special of shrimp skewers and swordfish which was cook perfectly. On the other had Thai peanut pasta which was not as described it was more like thick peanut rigatoni pasta with the same vegetables for the night and chicken stirred into not on top. the deserts that were ordered were pumpkin creme brulee and keylime pie both were not flavorful the pie tasted and had the texture of paste. This doesn't deter me from returning but just what not to order next visit.
