With my once-perfect 20/20 vision bidding adieu, I found myself facing the classic conundrum of aging eyes. Enter Dr. Marcie Nichols, who "lovingly" ushered me into this new spectacle-wearing chapter of my life. Dr. Nichols is not just an optometrist; she's like a vision-whisperer, breaking down the mystique of comprehensive eye exams with remarkable clarity. When life threw the curveball of bariatric surgery at me, she was there, advising me to keep a vigilant eye (pun intended) on any vision changes. Lo and behold, her foresight was spot-on. A mere 8 months later, my eyes decided to remix their capabilities, and thanks to her advice, I didn't dally till my annual check-up to get an updated script. But wait, there's more! The clinic recently welcomed Dr. Beth Mosley, who is nothing short of amazing. Her addition to the team is like the cherry on top of an already delectable eye-care sundae. And let's not forget: this practice is a bastion of female leadership. As a firm supporter of women-led endeavors, their commitment to this ethos adds an extra sparkle to their already stellar services. Perspectives Vision Clinic gets a resounding 5 out of 5 from me--only because my enthusiasm can't stretch the scale to a perfect 10. Here's looking at you, Perspectives!

Upon speaking with the eye shop connected to them, I said I wanted to keep my silhouette frames and asked what it would cost for high-index, progressives lenses with transitions and blue-light blocking. I was told it would be upward of $700, to which I asked, for "just the lenses?" She responded yes. I'm a senior who cannot afford that so I began looking online. I needed a PD number. I called Southdale Optical to see if I could come in and get it since they already charged my insurance for an exam and didn't put it on my prescription. I was told the doctors at Southdale Optical do not measure for PD, that I would have to go to their optical shop for that. I informed her I couldn't afford to get my glasses at their shop and was ordering online. She then informed me I'd have to pay to have it measured if I chose to buy my glasses online. Research informed me there are only three states that require eye doctors to give a PD measurement, Alaska, Massachusetts and New Mexico. In the future, I will be inquiring about a PD number before I make an appointment. Meanwhile, I guess I will get new frames (that I don't like near as much as my Silhouettes) and high-index, progressive, blu-blocking lenses from Costco, (who unfortunately won't replace lenses in frameless silhoutte frames) for about $250. Lesson learned.

The new technician was very nice; she did a whole bunch of tests, photos, took pressure in my eyes, etc. Then Dr. Vang comes in, and he is also very nice and thorough. He dilates and examined my eyes. After the appointment, I was checking out, when another front desk person (NOBODY at the clinic wears name tags) told me that my balance is $39.62. When I asked him why I am being charged for a "free annual eye exam", he said that "we took a photo of your eyes so you don't have to be dilated". I said that I WAS dilated by 2 sets of eye drops. That person, Brad (I had to ask for his name as he was VERY rude and frustrated, for some reason), throws the papers, goes back to speak with the doctor, and comes back, saying that "he needed to do both photos and dilation". When I asked for a reason for that, he said that he does not know, he will check, and that he is not going "to fight with you". Then he reverses the charges because of their mistake, and, without any apologies, hands the papers back to me. NO EXPLANATIONS, NO APOLOGIES, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. I would have given this place a 1 star, but because of the rest of the staff that were nice, I am giving a 3/5. I am not going to that place again: Brad, don't be a Brat; even if you have a bad day, do not take it out on patients. Maybe, this job is stressful for him.

Sure there's a more technical name for it, but I won't bore you with the details. So, R.F.E. means they have to contour map the surface of my eyes every few years and I have to see a doctor who looks at the picture and makes thoughtful noises. At one point they told me that it could be degenerative and I might have to have a corneal transplant. The corneas would come from either a pig or a dead person, both sounded AWESOME. So imagine my disappointment when they told me a few years ago that my eyes had stabilized. My hope of being featured on some sort of horror movie where I see dead people or start squealing like a pig were dashed (yes I know those stories have been done). Truth be told, I was leaning towards the pig eyes. I imagined how having an inhuman glare might work to my advantage! Anyways, I get to keep my messed up corneas and this place has been keeping me in glasses and seeing pretty well. This year they put me in some medical contacts that corrected my vision to almost 20/20. For me, this is like walking around seeing the world in HD after watching it on an old 1970s console TV like the one your Grandparents had. It's great! The staff and Doctors have been great to work with. Even though they use a bunch of fancy words, they are willing to dumb things down so this dim wit can understand! Quite nice of them! So, if you ever get R.F.E. or just need a great eye Doctor, check this place out.
