I am a nutrition nerd who reads and studies up on food as medicine, but after years of VERY stressful life situations and trying to self manage my diet, I was still lethargic and moody, even with a squeaky clean diet (no grains, no sugar, no diary). Many of us know that when you can't fix things yourself through diet, there's likely something else going on. It was time to see a doctor who practices functional medicine. Around this time, I also learned that my sister has a specific genetic mutation that could impact my health, so I threw that on the agenda. I arrived at the office with a list of things I needed her input on. She took time to sit with me, review the very detailed medical history questionnaire and listen to what was going on. She was careful and thorough during our visit. She spent an entire hour and a half with me - reviewing my history. No interruptions. No sitting in a room for 45 minutes waiting to speak to the doctor. Me and Dr. Curtis - discussing my issues one on one for over an hour. Who does that anymore? No one. It's not surprising that this level of treatment comes at a cost. Functional doctors can be pricey, but I knew that beforehand. I was also prepared to pay out of pocket if need be as insurance may not cover some of the tests or supplements. My health and the knowledge I gain by working with Dr. Curtis is worth any amount I pay. I am learning how to cope with the stresses of life - what supplements help me in which ways. Which foods work well for my body and which result in negative consequences. My father died young of a sudden heart attack and I am convinced that had I not seen Dr. Curtis, learned the details of my genetic makeup and what lifestyle modifications I needed to make - I would end up with the same fate. The fees I pay for office visits, diagnostic tests and the like are investments in MY health. I'm taking control of my health vs. resorting to pharmacutical remedies and I believe that this investment is worth every penny. I am so very grateful to Dr. Curtis for the work that she does. I can tell by her demeanor that she is doing this work from her heart. She is mindful of the cost of the supplements that she recommends. For example, I was on a 21 day gut rebuilding diet which necessitated a specialized protein powder supplement that was expensive. After the 21 days were up, she and I discussed what to do with the leftover powder and she recommended I use the rest up for meal replacements since it would be wasteful to throw it out and she'd hate for me to lose the $ I'd spent buying it. She also gives samples of supplements to try to make sure it will work with your body composition before you purchase a full bottle. I could not ask for more in a doctor than what Dr. Curtis provides. She is knowledgable, compassionate and she listens. She's not rushing you out of the office because she has to see 5 patients an hour. She is there for you during your appointment time. Her attention is focused on you and your needs. We got a call from a dear friend, life coach Ade, who recommended we see Dr. Mark. Given Dr. Mark also treats a very revered spiritual leader whom we love dearly, it was pretty clear we needed to see him. Upon the first visit, I was amazed that he knew and used many of the modalities I'd read about but never tried. More importantly, he correctly diagnosed the food allergies I was experiencing and what was causing them via kinesiology. He prescribed the treatments using the same. With that - I will share with you my experience: During a routine exam my regular doctor found calcium in my blood and protein in my urine. Tested for UTI (had no such symptoms) and other (I will omit details). Don't think I didn't look up these two symptoms - I did! I went to my OBGYN as requested by my regular doctor and another physician; that physician suggested I go to another another specialist (details omitted). Barry, his assistant introduces himself, l follow him to the room which has a light fragrance of incense. We review what I wrote on my chart - he hangs around my neck a long tubular thing that goes passed my lap. He explains how the Ondamed works (visit ondamed.net for explanation). To wrap it up quickly - I have to go: within 30 minutes, after Barry writes down the numbers Dr. Mark has the ANSWER to my condition! Definitely went back to my old chiropractor. Only checked them out from the Greek festival and since I was living farther than 45 minutes from previous chiropractor and they were closer but defo was a huge mistake for my well being.
