That entrance too is super cool and really unique. The parking lot in front is very small so some of our group had to park at the streets. It can be hard to spot but luckily I had a couple of friends that have gone to one of the escape rooms here before. I feel like the employees inside are very go-go-go! So make sure you arrive for your appointment on time. They direct you to the bathroom inside too and the theming of it all is amazing. Not what you would expect from the outside. We were able to do the Courtyard room and it was like we were in a set. I was very amazed by the detail and the props, and of course so proud of the group I was with because we were able to pass the room (despite a 20% success rate!). The story threw me off at first but after researching on the website after the escape room, I understand now that we did the last chapter of the journey. LOL oops! Nontheless we all had so much fun and you are really immersed and sucked into the story. I think that I would love to come here again but there is a pretty big price point that you have to be okay spending (weekdays it was like 43-46$. I really appreciate the high quality camera they use and a unique background for a nice group photo to capture the memories. Would be cool to have props photo booth style but it's okay, definitely a more formal and really detailed escape room. Highly recommend!! PS Lockers for phones and stuff to place are in the lobby but it's secured with a key that one of the group members keep.

This was my first escape room I've been to and I was super nervous. I get in my head when I don't…read moreknow what to expect. The staff was super friendly and helpful when I asked questions. Getting inside the building was interesting; turns out, there is a puzzle to solve! Once inside, we sat down, waited for the rest of our friends then signed the waiver. Thankfully, they did have a bathroom we could use ahead of time. Once we got our initial instructions from the staff member, we went into a room and received more instructions on a screen. The basement is a very immersive room, the cast member who was part of it did an amazing job! I'm so sad I can't remember her name, she truly was a delight! She even reassured me at the beginning when I was freaking out. We managed to escape with about 6 minutes left, I wish I had taken exact note of how much time. We took a celebratory picture and then I got some merch, a t shirt saying I escape the basement and one of the enamel pins. Me and my friends came to celebrate a birthday and I think we will be back in November for another friend's birthday to do the next room! I'm gonna buy a new enamel pin each time we win, I think. Definitely looking forward to coming back! Couple tips: come in one car, the lot is very small and there was only one spot left when we got there and our friends had to park farther away. For the celebratory picture, make sure to look at the right spot and fix your hair beforehand lol. Lastly, bring cash to tip the staff members! They deserve it for being so awesome! Oh, and be kind to them, I shouldn't have to say this, but I will. They are fellow humans playing characters.

It's a free event, so a long line is understandable -- just something to plan for. The overall vibe inside was fun and worth checking out if you've got the patience. My only suggestion would be for them to open more than just four days in October. That would help spread out the crowds and make it easier for more people to enjoy the experience without such a long wait.

The theme this year is "Evil in the London Fog," and right when you enter, you feel like you've stepped into a foggy, cobblestoned, Victorian London of the past. This was my first haunted house I've ever done, and I don't like being scared. It is the perfect intro to haunted houses for someone like myself who is a scaredy cat - it was light on gore and very brief which made it manageable to walk through. There was a bit of a line, but it moved quite fast. The haunted house is built on their front yard (amazing), so you will get through it quite quickly. It is free, which is incredible for the amount of work that goes into it. However! There is a box where you can leave donations, and all proceeds go to Volunteers of the Burbank Animal Shelter. Everyone who was working the haunt was so friendly, with fantastic themed costumes to boot. Absolutely wonderful vibes all around! They deserve no tricks and ALL the treats!

When you do make your way inside, you're greeting with old portraits and slowed down creepy music. Through the dim corridors you'll find a giant spider with glowing eyes, and a medical lab of torture, among other fiends and friends. The whole thing is only about one and a half minutes, but the final room really leaves an impression.

The famous "Murder House" from American Horror Story is located in Los Angeles and is great fun to…read moresee. The Murder is really the Rosenheim Mansion. Rosenheim built the mansion in 1908 to live in his wife. In around 1930 Edward Everett Horton lived there. The Sisters of Social Service then took over the mansion in 1930, using it as a convent and adding a chapel to the building in 1932. Around 1999/2000 the site was declared a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. It was beautiful and still is in its own right. It was later sold in 2015 for about 3 million, which was a huge price cut from its initial offering. There was a lawsuit against the sellers agent for never disclosing that the property was featured on American Horror Story. Fans of the TV show stated going to it and this made the owners just a tad upset. It is now Murder House. You can now up to walk Murder House and take photos of the beautiful mansion and the area greenery. It is about an hour of fun. I had read that some can walk though it, but I did not see anyway to do that.

My mom and I took my kids to see the Christmas markets in France this past December. It was a…read morebucket list trip for my mom, and while my boys had a great time, the travel was complicated and arduous, mostly because of my wild three-year-old Wade B. A couple weeks later, my husband and I took the boys to the Enchanted Forest of Light at Descanso Gardens. They had an absolute blast, and my five-year-old Leo B. declared, with utmost sincerity, "I think this is the nicest place I've ever been." Matt B. and I had been once before, almost a decade ago, with our friends Caroline Y. and Scott S., when we were all young and childless. We came back together, this time with five kids, and as much as I enjoyed it back in the day, I found it even more compelling this second time around. The magic was amplified ten times by the presence of my sons, who absolutely loved all the beautiful, colorful lights. I did buy them shitty Christmas light necklaces, one of which broke almost immediately, causing considerable strife. The alternative, of course, was to deny Wade his request before even entering the garden, where he would badger me every time he saw another child with the necklace. I was not surprised to see that most of the children seemed to have them, every parent having made the same calculation on their way in. Smart and evil of Descanso Gardens to put that vendor right by the entrance. I'm guessing Enchanted is their big revenue generator for the year, and this is a McKinseyish way to maximize. The kids oohed and aahed at every exhibit, marveling at all the colors and lights. We oohed and aahed right with them, and had the additional pleasure of watching them play and interact with the elaborate, immersive displays. They loved the tulip fields, the model trains, the stained glass houses, the trees and music and light. There was also a large platform that served as a dance floor for small children, who partied to the ambient music. Wade was especially taken with this stage, and the one part of the night that did not go well was when I yanked him away so we could see the rest of the installations. It was cold and the kids were up way past their bedtimes, but we all had a blast at the Enchanted Forest. When pressed, Leo admitted that Paris was in fact as nice as Descanso Gardens, but the point was made. Come Christmas, we can take the boys to France or we can just drive to La Cañada and buy a few tickets that support a wonderful botanical garden. We might even manage the latter every year.

My family and I visited Thanksgiving weekend and had a blast wandering around all the light…read moredisplays in the garden! This isn't necessarily a holiday-themed "Christmas" light experience, but it put us all in the holiday mood nonetheless. The themed light displays are well curated, the event is organized, staff are friendly, and the free parking is orderly and well managed. There are ten different themed exhibits found on the mile-long path. By far our favorite was the Ancient Forest, but the Garden of Good Fortune and the Fantasy Forest were close seconds! They do a wonderful job of using the light displays to really compliment and highlight the giant oak trees and other featured plants - as well as excellent music choices to really immerse you in a serene fantasy forest type experience. Some of the exhibits are interactive, like the Symphony of Oaks where you can step on the lights to make them change colors and sing - so fun! They also had a large village of tiny stained glass houses and other buildings you could actually enter and walk through - really beautiful. Another display I loved was the giant light built to resemble the moon - it was placed directly over one of the ponds and the reflection was magnificent! And everyone loves the massive, sprawling field of tulip lights which has a rotating show that will occasionally send waves of lights towards you. We spent a good hour and a half meandering around the path, which is well maintained and mostly flat with plenty of maps to find your way around the exhibits. The staff did a great job of respecting ticket entry times and the exhibits are so well laid out that we hardly noticed the crowds. Very well done! They don't sell tickets at the door so be sure to purchase online in advance. Booking our timed entry tickets was very easy via their website. They also take advanced reservations for their on-site Farmhouse restaurant and for valet parking. The restaurant and gift shop area was packed so I'd recommend restaurant reservations. But the parking was ample, even at 6pm on a Saturday and so well staffed and managed that we found a spot easily with zero chaos. This was my first visit to Descanso Gardens and now I'm wishing I had seen it in the daylight so I could compare haha! Tickets are a tad pricey but ee loved their Enchanted Forest of Light and can highly recommend it. Plus you're supporting a local botanical garden! I'll definitely be back to see all the splendor of the garden in the daytime.

This was the first haunt of the night that my friend and I visited, and we had a great time! It…read moretook place at the Highland Park Rex Center, and they set the stage really well for something spooky - the space was very dark and seeing the building in that state built up a good sense of suspense. The video they make you watch at the beginning also helped hype it up, as you're in a totally dark room and getting primed for some scares to come. The maze was especially scary when we went through it as it seemed like there was nobody else in attendance at the time, so you really got the sense of being all alone in there and knew that all of the scares would be focused on you. The actors' timing was good and they got me a few times for sure. I also liked how they took you through several types of scenery that all felt a bit different. The only part that wasn't great was the ending. They had a sort of blinding light that you had to walk towards, but it wasn't clear where to go from there. We almost went through a curtain back to another part of the maze by accident before we realized we were supposed to go out the door... and then it was over. I think they could have done a better job designating the exit and ending with more of a bang - it would be great to position a scare actor right under that light. This haunt was not on the level of some of the super impressive home haunts that are chock full of props and actors, but it's still a fun time in a local community, and at $3 each or 2 for $5, it's still worth the price of admission.
