We had come down for a wedding and this is the bar we all gathered at after the reception. I had ordered a drink for my boyfriend and I and left my card open. It's the only drink we had there before leaving to stay at our hotel. With everyone there we were busy talking and catching up with old friends and I forgot to close out my card. Sunday was Father's Day, and even though their hours were posted that they are open Sunday's at 11am, no one seemed to be around. No other notes posted on the doors about not being open for the day. We tried calling to see if anyone was inside but nobody picked up. We were traveling to Idaho Sunday and would be coming back through the next day so we figured we would just pick it up then, considering they were closed and would probably be open again after the holiday. When we stopped to pick up my card they didn't have it anymore. Yet they were able to charge my card for $16.50. Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmm? When I told the bartender working that was strange because I know for a fact I didn't close it out and left it with the bartender working Saturday, she asked if I wanted to leave my number. I frustratedly started walking away and replied, "No, I'll have to cancel it now because it could have been stolen and I know I didn't close out." She responded very rudely with, "Well we will try not to spend all of your money." For someone who works in the service industry I don't think it's even remotely funny to joke about stealing someone's card and I could not believe how utterly rude she was. Losing your credit card brings on a lot of stress. Maybe it got wedged in the till or fell behind something, I know cards are slim and can easy get lost. Yet, the fact that she actually responded with, "Well we will try not to spend all your money," doesn't make me feel safe that I left my card open with their staff. Not to mention, I know they had it because they used it to close out my tab at the end of the night. Very rude and unfriendly.

Ryan was our waitress, and she was just such a cool person. We really enjoyed everybody's positive energy and good vibes. Awesome food suggestions. We split a blueberry feta salad, which was delicious. My hamburger was tasty - made with Montana beef, topped with bacon and fried cheese curds. For $2 extra I got the garlic parmesan fries. Yum... My husband ordered the fish n chips, served crispy and hot, Sawtooth Ale battered cod. We washed everything down with a couple beers - namely their super popular Dirt Church hazy IPA and Huckleberry Honey Ale. On our way out, we bought a couple 6-packs for later; the brown haired lady that helped us at the bar was super cool and gave us a couple stickers. Overall, a great experience. Next time we pass through Hamilton, I hope to come back :)

Bitter Root Brewing is one of the older Montana breweries that I came across in my recent beer…read moreadventures in the Big Sky state. The beer that I got for our enjoyment was a fruit beer. Sometimes these types of beers can be pretty sugary and be a bit much. But that wasn't a problem with Huckleberry Honey Ale. Yes, it was sweet. No doubt about it but it wasn't it's dominant feature which was great and made this fruit beer a fun one to drink. Flavors to play around on your tongue with this beverage are sweet, fruity, honey and subtle. The subtle is probably the mechanism at play where nothing comes off too heavy handed , making the flavor profile well balanced. The beer is light bodied which is great as the summer time temps crank up the thermometer the light bodied beers are most appreciated.

I have distanced myself from IPA'S for a short time as they are everywhere but in late Spring and early Summer I have gotten a hankering for them once again and so here comes the IPA'S rolling back. Flavors to have fun with in this flavor profile here are hoppiness, floral, some maltiness and a sweetness of a natural sort. It was very refreshing and the color of the beer is nice and bright. I suppose that description could also be added to the flavor profile as well. A nice introduction into this brewery and hopefully further beer experiences with Higherground in the future!
