Sometimes these types of beers can be pretty sugary and be a bit much. But that wasn't a problem with Huckleberry Honey Ale. Yes, it was sweet. No doubt about it but it wasn't it's dominant feature which was great and made this fruit beer a fun one to drink. Flavors to play around on your tongue with this beverage are sweet, fruity, honey and subtle. The subtle is probably the mechanism at play where nothing comes off too heavy handed , making the flavor profile well balanced. The beer is light bodied which is great as the summer time temps crank up the thermometer the light bodied beers are most appreciated.

Higherground Brewing was yet another Montana brewery I got to try and it is always so much fun…read morechecking these places off my list. For this brewery we enjoyed the Hula Hopped IPA. I have distanced myself from IPA'S for a short time as they are everywhere but in late Spring and early Summer I have gotten a hankering for them once again and so here comes the IPA'S rolling back. Flavors to have fun with in this flavor profile here are hoppiness, floral, some maltiness and a sweetness of a natural sort. It was very refreshing and the color of the beer is nice and bright. I suppose that description could also be added to the flavor profile as well. A nice introduction into this brewery and hopefully further beer experiences with Higherground in the future!

I had the mushroom Swiss burger and it was really good. Very good fresh meat that was cooked perfectly. There was a perfect amount of swiss cheese and mushrooms as well. The waitress checked in often. Pricing seems to be a bit steep, which was the only negative on a very good experience.

MK had the blackened shrimp tacos with mango cilantro salsa. Have to say I recommend this dish Very nice presentation and blackened corn tortillas and shrimp excellent. They were not like Midwestern style cheese curds, but they were very yummy with bacon and hot honey. The cottage pie had a nice flavor although a bit dry. We asked for a side of the poutine gravy and that did the trick. I'd never heard of a pickle chicken sandwich. Yes it sounds weird. See pic for menu description. It had very moist chicken, but I did not get a ton of flavor. After I added a side more of the chipotle sauce it was more tasty. The shoestring fries were nicely seasoned. And we liked their Scotch Ale better than the Cold Smoke. We'll definitely be back to try more things up from the menu.

The brewery is situated on a hillside and you get a great view of the mountains from the east. There is even an outdoor seating area to enjoy this when weather allows. Inside the brewery it's charmingly rustic and relatively spacious and you still can get the views in. It escaped me that they made their own house made ginger ale otherwise I would have gotten some. But instead I got one of their beers which was the primary purpose of stopping by. What I got was the Horse With No Name Rice Lager. I do like rice lagers as they are nice and light. This one wasn't bad in that regard. Flavor features with it are crisp, a bit bitter with a dry finish. I was in need of getting something to eat and so I pursued that as well but wanted something light as I often do while on a long road trip. I got a very crisp and fresh garden salad which was excellent and what really gave it the extra "pop" was some ginger vinegarette dressing. It added a perfect dynamic to keep me engrossed in my meal to the finish. Nice brewery and restaurant to come to and unwind and relax a bit!

I ordered medium and there was not a bit of pink. It was dry and mostly flavorless which was a huge let down. We could have sent them back but it was at the end of a 13 hour travel day and I would have eaten almost anything at that point and couldn't wait another 10-15 minutes for a re-cook. I debated between 2 and 3 for this one but tie goes to the restaurant. Nice people, good fries and beer but a major letdown on the burger. I would never go back but it wasn't the worst. 2-1/2 stars really.

I got the "That's What She Said" Cream Ale which I do enjoy getting this beer type and often feel that I don't come across it enough. But on my latest trip through Montana it felt a little bit more easy to find. Flavor highlights for this pleasant Cream Ale are creamy, sweet and clean in the profile department. The beer is also smooth and light bodied which we appreciate getting more often than not. Good starting beer with this brewery and worth seeking more of their beers out whenever I'm in the area!

The day we were there, they didn't have onsite food (but we were there midday on a Thursday). Staff was nice and service quick - we did a flight each and while we enjoyed the beers, I can't write home about any of them but they were all pretty decent. Their bathrooms were interestingly large and it had a huge booth inside? But seems like a great spot closer to town that you could walk back into town.

It was good to have gotten to try some KettleHouse Brewing's beer for Steve and myself…read more We had the Coffee Cold Smoke which was a Scotch Ale with Coffee... a combination I don't believe we have had before in our beer adventuring and if we did it was at an infrequent time. But we did enjoy this particular Scotch Ale due to this combination. Flavor highlights to detect while enjoying this beer are malty, sweet and coffee. You will also see the beer being dark, like a good Scotch Ale should be and the body of the beer is nice and smooth. Nice starting beer for this brewery and we walked away pretty impressed!
