Just saw a piece on Facebook about how the markup on glasses is insane- and it reminded me to come…read morehere and review. I went to West Ed Mall about 9 months ago to have my eye exam, and then took my prescription to Second Specs at the upper level ( there is two- one lower by Galaxyland as well). I went during a business day- as I had booked it off for appointments- and I would probably recommend that if you want to avoid a crowd as mentioned by others. I had a great experience. The second I began to look the staff were friendly but happy to let me browse at my leisure. They carry some brand name, as well as their own brand. I went with their own brand- and I think it was about $140.00 all in. I have very several astigmatism- which affects the lenses that I can get. So once I chose my pair the gentleman checked and yep- they had my lenses in stock. He had me sit- and took some face measurements- told me to come back in an hour. I shopped, came back in an hour and a bit and we chatted. He was happy to direct bill my glasses, and then fitted them for me! They were perfect from the moment he slid them on- which amazed me as I have a crooked nose and usually am sitting through 10 adjustments in those fancy optical shops. I agree with the one reviewer that I can see glue in the corner of my frame however going onto a Year and it has made no difference and never come apart. The lenses are great and no problems with the coating- which usually happens to me! If you are sick of the jacked up prices - try here- great service and trust me nothing to lose!

I needed new glasses and had driven past this place a few times, so I decided to go in and check it…read moreout. I have an unusually small head (I'm only 5'2") so I often have problems finding glasses that fit me and sometimes have to buy kids sizes - so I figured a place that specialized in women might have a wider range of smaller sizes. Went in and made an appointment for a new eye check up at the same time, no problems, and then came back a week later to see the optometrist. She was super nice, very helpful and gave a lot of advice on whether to consider progressive lenses and what to look for. She also recommended some eyedrops, but unfortunately did not write the name down, so I emailed the place when I remembered later to ask what it was. They said it was probably one of two brands, which they named, but neither seemed familiar so I asked them to check when the optometrist was back in the office and confirm. It's been over a week now and they haven't replied, so unless the optometrist has gone on extended holiday, they've clearly forgotten about me - taking off a star for that :( I found the fitting helpful, it's great to have someone give dedicated 1-on-1 advice about frames and what suits, and they were happy to take a couple of photos with my top choices so I could see how they looked. I was told the glasses would take up to 10 work days to be ready, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear back after only 3 days that they were ready to pick up. I stopped by during my lunch hour to collect them however and this is where the other rating star gets lost - walked in and was completely and utterly ignored. The receptionist was nowhere to be seen, and the two ladies present were fitting other people with glasses and didn't even look at me. Even though one of them must have had to get up and buzz me in, they didn't even acknowledge my existence long enough to ask me to wait a moment. I ended up standing around for at least 5 minutes completely ignored until another customer wrapped up and then one was able to help me collect the new glasses. I returned the weekend after to ask if they could adjust the fit of one earpiece slightly, and exact same experience. No receptionist to be seen, two ladies busy fitting other clients and not a word, not even eye contact, ended up standing around completely ignored for 10 minutes without even being acknowledged or told how long the wait was. This is when I started wandering around to take a few photos of the place to add on Yelp, since apparently nobody even cared that I existed - the optometrist office side of the place was entirely deserted, I could have wandered into the examination offices and rifled through the supplies if I'd wanted to, there was nobody present and nobody paying any attention to me. Finally after a long wait another customer wrapped up and someone was free to help me - at which point she was perfectly polite and helpful to me, but again totally ignored the man who entered while she was talking to me. A few thoughts - first, the optometrist was great, I do like the fitting service, and their selection of smaller sized frames seemed fine. However, where is the receptionist? If the store is open, there should be a receptionist at the desk at all times, which means providing cover for her lunch and other breaks. If that's not possible, then ALL staff should be ready to promptly greet new customers and provide an idea of the wait time. Completely ignoring customers is a terrible experience and conveys a complete lack of interest in the customer and a lack of value for our time. The fact they've completely forgotten to answer my email emphasizes this. The customer service (or lack of) is definitely detracting from what would otherwise have been a good experience here, which is quite disappointing.

He has helped me pick out some contacts for me, letting me try different types until I find something that agrees with me. I have allergies and my eyes and skin are super sensitive. Dealing with Varsity has been a great experience, with email reminders of appointments, the best trends, direct billing and great staff that keep you updated about everything. I will keep going to Varsity, and definitely recommend them with the highest commendations.

I called in and gave them my prescription and they said they had my lenses in stock. Anyways I was in and out within about half an hour with a new pair of glasses and I couldn't believe how affordable the price was. I'm super happy. Will definitely go back (wish they had varsity optical in my city)!

My sister got her glasses first here and they gave her a $50 off coupon for friends and a $100 off for herself if she chooses to purchase another pair of glasses. I decided to also look at frames and was happy to find a few that I liked. It was hard to choose a favourite. Lots of staff are always working and there is very little wait time to get help. This company has very good prices and offers free frames on the second pair of glasses if you need more than one pair. Since we have high prescriptions, we went for the ultimate thin and light lenses for $240.00. This choice includes anti-reflection coating which makes the lenses smudge resistant and easy to clean. The other option includes a blue light filter but has a yellow tint. The glasses are made out of province so they do take two to three weeks to arrive. This place is so awesome that my daughter has just ordered her pair of new glasses and my husband will be doing the same! Great prices, efficient and helpful staff! We have received awesome service every time we have visited this store.

I was quite impressed with the overall service and the friendly nature of the staff. Very conveniently located and that was another great reason for me to come here. They sell a large variety of eyeglasses and frames. Most people think that they only have expensive frames, but they do keep cheaper frames that are of decent quality. However, I will admit that if you're not looking for an expensive brand of eye frames or sunglasses, there are probably other places that have more variety in the below $200 range. Another thing that I liked was that after getting my frames made (which was around August of last year), I received a 30% discount coupon as a New Year's gift in my mail. I had to use it by the 31st of March, I think .. and didn't end up using it, but that was pretty cool!
