I have been getting my families glasses here for about 12 years now. This place never lets me down. They always have great selection on all frames and get new stock regularly. The staff are following all Covid procedures and they are doing a great job at cleaning all the frames and high touch surfaces. I recently brought my 4 year old in for her eye exam and the doctors were so wonderful with her making her feel comfortable and guiding her through the exam. The staff even opened the doors for me to enter / leave which I thought was a nice added touch. I came in for an eye exam as recent headaches had me believing that it might be time for new glasses. I really didn't have any of the same issues other reviewers mentioned with the staff. The young fellow that was working the day of my appointment was a bit soft spoken but very polite and seemed eager to help. When I got in with the Dr. she too was also very friendly as well as efficient with the exam. By the time it was done it had hardly felt like I had been there even five minutes. I think really my only minor concern was that when I initially made the appointment the lady I spoke with over the phone had a very thick accent and was extremely difficult to understand. Patience is really a virtue though because when you get over that initial slight communication barrier you really come to understand that these folks are all nice well intentioned people who just want to help. While there I also had the chance to look over some of the frames. They have alot of brand names so I felt the price for almost everything I looked at was fair but as somebody paying out of pocket with no health coverage it was just a bit more then I was able to spend today. On that note though it is worth mentioning if you do buy your lenses and frames here they will waive the $70.00 eye exam fee which does help in bringing the price down a bit. Overall it was a great experience and while I won't be able to buy this pair of glasses with them I can definitely say they have earned my business when it comes to getting the next. read more

After searching high and low for a good optician, I finally took the bait and followed the leads left by my fellow Elites. This place boasts of great quality customer service with a very reasonable pricing options. Walking through the door, I was immediately greeted and served. There were no hassle or wait required. I was quite pleased actually but definitely wasn't expecting myself to be in an optical store in China town though. The guy was pleasant and friendly to start with followed by a good level of helpfulness in picking out the best frame to my liking. I must say, he was quite patient as well which made me felt quite comfortable and at ease when taking the time in picking my frame. What amazes me was that they could even dispense my eye glasses almost immediately. I was busy and requested if it was possible to have my glasses right away. He responded with a smile and a definite yes. In my past experiences with optical shops, you don't find many that can dispense your eye glasses in less than 30 minutes. Regent was quite the star! The eye exam was free as long as you're purchasing a frame otherwise it's CAD$70. The optician was well capable with the exam and made the experience quite a pleasant one. I would likely go back again when needed. Oh! Did I mention that I was even given a complimentary a bottle of Lens Cleaner. Win! :) read more

They were ordered and delivered within two days! So efficient. They seem to have a lot of regular glasses as well ranging in prices. I'd come back to look for glasses or prescription sun glasses. I have a like-dislike relationship with this business. I have been coming here because I enjoy the optometrist, however, the service is up and down and not very consistent. Things that I enjoy: the location, the price of frames and lenses, that your eye exam is free with a purchase of glasses and that an eye exam is only $50. I also enjoy the optometrists that I have had eye exams with. Things that need improvement: The service - the staff working there handle appointments and help out with choosing glasses are ok at best compared to the Chinatown location. Most of them seem uninterested and are not helpful when it comes to suggestions for frames. However, with that being said, I have had some better experiences with one individual there. Getting new glasses can be daunting especially when you don't have a friend to give you their opinion so having that added service would make my overall experience move from 3 stars to 4 stars. read more

I come here to get my eyeglasses, sunglasses, contact lenses - anything eye-related for my very terrible eyes. I don't even live in Edmonton anymore, so I always make sure to stock up when I am in town. They've never been anything short of exceptional, in terms of - Service (they are incredibly helpful, even when I'm the worst customer and don't know at all what I want, and in terms of turnaround. I have no idea how they are able to make glasses in my very high and wonky prescription on the same day, no other stores can do this) - Selection (Vancouver has NO STORES that have even close to the same selection as Regent) and - Price (again, I have no idea how they can make my prescription so cheap, and be completely accurate) I don't know about people's past experiences with them, but they're always super friendly and helpful to me. read more

We stopped by Regent Optical for the first time today because my boyfriend finally succumbed to the fact that he needs glasses. While he went in for his eye exam, I browsed around the shop, checking out their different styles in frames. They have lots of great brands, like Calvin Klein, Nike, Oakley, D&G, and Verscace, to name a few. All of their frames are unisex, but some are made more feminine, or wider to fit most guys' faces. There was one entire wall where the frames were 50% off, and another wall full of sunglasses. They were really busy when we came in today too. I was surprised how many people needed to get glasses and eye exams today! There were people stepping into the shop every ten or fifteen minutes. And it's kind of a small, narrow shop too, not wide and spacious like the places in shopping malls, so you have to squeeze around everybody when it's crowded. There were lots of staff to help us all out, about four or five behind the counter in all. The staff who helped me and my boyfriend out were very patient, pulling out all kinds of frames for him to try on and waiting for him to decide on one. The sale was quick and we were out the door again in no time. They have about four optometrists on hand here, and my boyfriend said his doctor was very nice. The eye exam was about $50, which seems to be on the lower end to me. I've had exams for about $80 at other places before. I think I'll be coming here when I need a new pair of specs. read more

My experience at Regent was really positive. I went for an eye exam, followed by a search for a new pair of specs. Dr. Chang is professional and friendly. The staff were all helpful and efficient. It can be a bit overwhelming picking out frames but they knew where to start and offered great suggestions. The selection was good and the price was right. I was pleased to learn your $70 exam fee can be put toward a new eye wear purchase. Bonus! It only takes a couple of days before you can pick up your glasses. Hate to bring it down a notch after all the 5 star reviews - but, I have to be honest, no? I really love the selection here but it is a little overwhelming - the spectacles are all in cased in glass displays (like a jewelry store kinda) compelling you to reach out to a sales associate for assistance. Not really my favourite way as I like to do my own thing (like at Hakim...) when shopping for new glasses. I got over it though, and was helped by a very nice lady who was patient and pleasant. After trying many, many different pairs, it turns out that it was the very first pair I tried on that I went with (typical). They were able to get me in for an eye exams shortly after I came in (Saturday morning around 11am) which was great; but this is where the one star is lost...I actually came out of this eye EXAM feeling as if I had failed it (AAAAHHHH flashbacks to the university days...). I couldn't see the differences in the clarity of the letters when she was switching the lenses around with that big weird alien lenses machine thing; and when I said I saw no change, I felt as though she was getting annoyed with me. My bf was having his exam in the next room and he came out as if him and the doc were long lost buddies; talking sports and such...to Regent' credit, although my prescription had changed, and it took about 2 weeks to get used to, I do like my new glasses, and do realize an improvement in my vision. The price is really where this place is a cut above - cheap!! My favourite price!! I paid $269.00 for lenses, frames, and an eye exam. I walked in at 11am, left after everything was settled around noon, and was back by 5:30pm (myself and the bf who also found a great pair) to pick up my new glasses. Not so bad if you ask me. In 2 years, when my benefits kick back in, Regent will be the first place I check out. read more

Shopping by myself for a new pair of specs certainly didn't make me think twice about bringing along my daughter or wife for an opinion as the staff at Regents' had assisted before and I had achieved good vision and great frames for very good value. I did have some issues with my new glasses this time around in regards to my perscription - but it was really no big deal. I had made several trips to their store in order to have the problem addressed. Of all the trips, and with the various staff, I had not-once been shelved or set aside to have a someone else deal with the issue. The problem was dealt with, addressed with courteous consultations and ultimately followed-up with the glasses being corrected. I was assured & knew that the staff and business were on side to assist me in getting the right product; even with the products were pre-paid on date of order, which can sometimes leave the customer feeling vulnerable when issues arise at a later date. I'm very impressed with the knowledgable staff, their candidness, and professionalism. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else for glasses. Customer for life. read more

I used to really enjoy this place at it's old location, but I have had some horrible customer service recently (ie: being yelled at for parking in their parking lot because they thought I was going to leave my vehicle and go to the fringe.. when I was just there to pick up contacts). I was in need of a pair of new glasses so I decided to try out Regent Optical. The service was good while I was there, but upon taking my glasses home and wearing them for a couple days, I realised they were too heavy and gave me headaches. I then asked for an exchange, and was told there were no refunds or exchanges available and all glasses were final sale. Needless to say, I was disappointed. Especially after spending $350 on new glasses. I've never had an optometrist not allow a 30 day exchange. It was like money down the drain. I really felt like the staff should have mentioned the no exchange or refund policy during checkout. Will not come here again. read more

I find them ok. For the kids I don't really find them too inviting at the downtown or whyte avenue location. My daughters glasses have had to be replaced every year for the past three years. There children's section, well they ain't got much of one. They are polite but I find it hard to understand them most of the time and my daughter doesn't feel very comfortable with them. When you deal with children you want them to feel comfortable and trust the person helping them out. It's quickly in and quickly out. They do have a wide range of glasses for adults and a lot of designer glasses. Prices, well I guess there about average $200 for kids and $400 and up for adults. I don't ever recall deals on there glasses though. There never is signs up promoting discounts or anything at least that we've ever seen. They are great for fixing or replacing my daughters glasses but it doesn't look like they are too happy to have to do it. She takes care of them but the nose piece or the arm just breaks off. At least it has always been covered under the year warranty. They will fix and adjust when needed as well. Again not much of a warming feeling when you go in though. Parking at the Whyte Avenue location can be hard and expensive. Time your visit right as rush hour can be unnerving. The downtown location well it just moved to an area with free parking so I can say it's great now just now in a grand area though especially with children. Not that the previous location was any better, actually it was worse you had to pay and it was in a bad area. The best part about seeing them is that there eye exam is the cheapest I have ever been. Let me start off by saying in the past i've recommended this place to numerous individuals looking for fashionable but reasonably priced frames and i NEVER write reviews especially negative ones as I worked in customer service for 5+ years. I've purchased a few pairs of glasses from here over the years but today i had HORRIBLE experience. I had very underwhelming customer service which was fine because I normally know what i'm looking for and the prices make up for it. But, after paying for my new frames, I asked the man if he minded if I just went around the corner to pick something up. He agreed. I spent the next few minutes next door picking up a coffee at Sugar and Spiced, as I returned a man who works there aggressively demanded if I had a right to be parked there. Super uncalled for - I understand that this could be an issue for this business, but ask the question before becoming hostile. I was underwhelmed to begin with but this was just the icing on the cake. I have a $250 gift card which i'm questioning using that's how much underwhelming this experience was for me. read more

I was a customer until today. Every 2 years or so I have purchased sunglasses from Regent. I have always been treating well. Today after grocery shopping I swung into their parking lot. No parking on the street in front due to expanded sidewalk. I had to pop into Wee Book in to pick up a book and then planned on going into Regent Optical. I was asked when I got of the car if I was a customer by someone out the back door, I replied yes and that I would be popping into Wee Book and then would be in. My sunglasses needed to be adjusted. The fellow said something else. I said go ahead I'll be right back. When I returned to my car 6 minutes later to drop book in and grab glasses and glass case another person came out and told me that I can't park there because I'm not a customer. I turned around with glasses in hand and at first was so put off, but my sunglasses really needed adjustment, so I went in, already pretty upset. I came in and spoke with the original person, who didn't ask if I needed help, three people stared at me and one just told me that I couldn't park there, I wasn't a customer. I explained I was and it was obvious my glasses in hand were from there. I tried to explain that I was visiting a couple of businesses in the area. I see all of the businesses as a community, my community. The man just kept arguing with me. It was ridiculous. I left in tears. I live in Old Strathcona, I support businesses in my neighbourhood. I support small businesses, particularly during times of COVID. It left me cold and upset. There wasn't another soul in the store other than staff and the parking lot was empty. I will never darken their doors again. Sad day in the community. read more

I went to the Regent on Whyte because of the high rating on here.. I mean 4 out of 5 stars is great right? Well my experience was delightful up until the reigning supreme receptionist gave me attitude because I wanted to see what was in my file. Like I was a thief or something she slowly inched the tray away until it was far from my reach. I asked her bluntly what was 'wrong' with her, and why couldn't I look at the piece of paper. Well, the other kindly worker seen that I was visibly upset and opted to show me what was in the tray. Finally I was treated with respect and the new lady answered all my questions and explained to me the dynamics of my prescription. I'd give a full on 5 star rating but being treated in a repugnant way left me with a sour taste in my mouth. I do recommend this optician solely based on the knowledgeable doctor and supporting staff.. but do avoid the ethnic young receptionist with dark rimmed glasses who almost ruined my experience. She really needs to work on her people skills. read more

The customer service is good from the opticians. But some of the doctors are terrible. I felt like they rushed through my exam and was either jaded by their profession or just did not want to be there. In particular, I was told to return for a brief check in one week after my exam by one doctor (unfortunately, he did not chart this properly and was not there when I returned). When I returned, a lady doctor, (Dr. Chang, I believe).. Refused to see me and did not provide an explanation... Other than the chart said to return a few weeks later. She did not personally tell me this, a receptionist did. When I asked if she could see me quickly, she still said no. I understand you might be busy (I was the only patient there..) , but as a medical professional myself, it is our job to see the patient no matter what the complaint is, and to do a brief assessment in case it is an emergency and requires immediate intervention. I feel like this doctor did not give a care, when I felt like all she had to do was to speak with me briefly and to take a health history. Her excuse was that she did not see me last time and didn't know me. Um, how do you think medi centres function?? Anyways, I'm quite disappointed to see such jaded practitioners. Don't go here they treat you like shit and you'll have to fight them for your prescription and your pd cause they don't even check that! Glasses are over priced and they act like oh we give you good deal! Honestly go elsewhere I've gone back three times cause my lenses are both irregular and they chipped my frames and bent them trying to force a piece around a mishappen lense. There is no place better for glasses. I just bought my 4th pair now in two years, not because they are not durable but because I love them that much. The staff is incredible. The prices are so cheap, I dont want to post in case other opticians see it and force regents prices up. This place is a gem. I cannot stress enough how good it is. The unique selection of glasses and the quantity they have can take you all day. They have an onsite optometrist that took me in within 20 minutes. After being "greeted" I immediately left. I walked in, and from behind me I immediately heard an unwelcoming "what can I help you with?". I turned and said "oh I'm just looking to see what you have". Then he gives me a look, either intentional or not (I don't know), and said in the same unwelcoming arrogant tone "k, well let me know if you need something". There was nothing genuine about this guy or his cutover service, and no way could I be bothered to ask this guy for help. So I said "wow you're rude" and left. Wow... talk about poor customer service at this Regent location. This was my first time here with a friend who came here for an eye exam and to pick out new prescription glasses. I've personally shopped at the Chinatown location for the past 10 years but had known that their Whyte Ave location carried more up to date and trendier frames/sunglasses compared to the Chinatown location. Upon arrival, we received a delayed greeting even though there were 4 employees within earshot. Half of them were eating behind the counter. The lady who checked my friend in seemed confused and wasn't very friendly. While I waited for my friend to have her eye exam done, I decided to peruse the sunglass section as I was interested in a new pair. After about 5 minutes of looking around and numerous employees passing me by (it wasn't busy by the way....) I finally had one guy ask me if I needed assistance. I told him I was interested in sunglasses. However, he didn't stay to help, he just walked on by to continue what he was doing - nothing - actually I lie, he was too busy picking his face as he had bad acne, to the point where he was bleeding and was blotting his face with tissue. How lovely. So I continued to look around and eventually just sat down since it seemed no one really was interested in helping. However, a few minutes later, a female employee finally came over and was more serious in helping me. I told her what I was interested in and she started pulling some sunglasses for me to try. This went on for about 10 minutes before my friend came back from her eye exam. So this lady ended up helping us both. She was never overly friendly or helpful, at times seemingly annoyed to have to pull glasses for us both - but hey that's your job is it not? Eventually I narrowed down my choices to a few and my friend, (who I should mention had visited the weekend prior and found a pair she liked), was unable to secure the same pair she tried on the week prior. She was told they were sold. How disappointing. She tried on many other pairs which did not resonate with her. So she asked the employee if they'd be able to order it in to which the employee said she could try and find the same pair however it would be final sale? Really?? You've got to be kidding me I thought. Here you guys are the ones who screwed up (the glasses were supposed to put aside) and now you're saying you could but it would be final sale? That's a huge purchase to have to rely on memory. And here you have a store that has probably thousands of frames. It would be easy for you to order one extra pair that would easily be resold should my friend decide they were not to her liking. But hey, I'm not the running the store am I? So my friend then has to ask if the other store carries it. I mean come on, this lady should be the one offering up solutions but it's like pulling teeth. So the call is made and we find out that the Chinatown location does not carry the frame. Very disappointing experience overall. Here my friend is motivated and excited to get herself a new pair of glasses only to have poor customer service ruin it all. I told my friend that we could make a trip to the Chinatown location and see if they have a pair of frames that would work as each location carries slightly different selection. The catch is that she only has 2 months to try and find a pair at the other location before her eye exam store credit expires. At least this is what we were told. So we leave, both aghast and almost laughing at the ridiculous experience we had. The cherry on top? My friend got a call later in the day from the Whyte Ave Regent Optical that indeed they did have the frames she was looking for, and they had put them aside for her. But apparently couldn't get organized enough to realize so until after this whole fiasco. *face palm* So I would never willingly come back to this location again. Yes they have a trendier selection than the Chinatown location, but the Chinatown location can order frames in too that you see from this location. I will keep my business at the Chinatown location from now on. They are too posh and cool at this location to give you down - to - earth quality service. read more

I had my first visit to Regent Optical yesterday with my mother and after hearing great things about it, I'm sad to say that I was disappointed. Upon walking in the door, the first thing I noticed was that we were not greeted by any staff member as the two ladies at the front desk were texting on their cell phones - very unprofessional. Even after we started shopping, the sales associate was not overly friendly. When my mother and I started looking for frames, we both found it quite difficult to distinguish what the frames actually looked like as there were far too many frames packed into the display cases. I found it quite frustrating. The frames were also organized by brand name making it difficult to tell which frames were more suitable for women. The final disappointment was the lack of air conditioning on the hot summer day. It was actually warmer in the store than on the street. read more
