There is good and bad. We walked in with my service dog in her vest. First off the person that greeted us, ( turned out he was to be our server) said " we don't allow dogs in here. I said "it's a service dog". His responses was "Is it"????. I said " Yes it is ". "It's a medical alert dog". And yes , i am well aware that many people try to pass off their dog as a service dog but there are giant red flags when it's not a real service dog. Mine is very well trained . Not only for the job she does for me but the way she is trained to behave in public. That being said, the man seated us in the back dining room . Turned out we were the only ones seated there but it was wonderful to have a quite dining experience all to ourselves . The back dining room also has a nice view of the snow capped mountains which the front dining room doesn't have. The waiter was very pleasant and professional . He had changed his off putting attitude by the time he took our order. I had a Huckle Tini which was awesome I also had the pork chop.which was very good. Over all , we had a very good dinner with very good service. The place is clean but not much on ambiance. Sat in the bar area. Good cocktails, food and service! Had the house steak which is a baseball cut top sirloin! It was cooked perfectly. Martini was perfect. I was worried when I saw her pour in so much vermouth! But she shook it to coat the ice and dumped out the excess! Perfect dry martini! Bar manager was friendly. Food only OK. Plates did come with little flowers on them, which was nice. Environment your typical old-restaurant thing (which I actually like); wood paneling and carpet. Steak OK, not good. Probably the least of the steaks I have had in my various trips to the West. Tasted like mediocre grocery store meat. Temperature was correct. Typical grill hash marks of lesser steak places - meh. Fish decent. Flash frozen, apparently, so didn't taste too old. Salad was good - fresh. My baked potato was huge, which was cool - apparently they take the Idaho potato thing seriously. Not much in the way of wine - clearly a beer and liquor place. My wife liked her Moscow Mule (called a Texas mule in the menu because it used Tito's). I haven't tried the other restaurants in town in many years, but I suspect the brewery options might be better. read more

The good: The steak was cooked to the perfect temp and was amazingly tender. The salmon add on was really good as well, and the fries were to die for. The salad was fresh, had beyond average ingredients so it didn't feel like it was made without a care, and the local made blue cheese dressing was an awesome topping. Overall the food quality met the price point. The bad: Terrible service. Sat at the bar for quite a long time before I could get a beer and a menu. Took another 10-15 minutes before I could place a food order. Salad comes out, and took another 5 or more minutes to flag someone down to get utensils. Food comes out and I got 2/3's through my steak before anyone checked on me so I could inform them that the blue cheese and brandy sauce I ordered never came. Thankfully the charge for that was taken off the tab. For the first time in quite a while I tipped less than 20%. Would have been a 5 star rating because the food was fantastic, but the service was bad enough to rate only a three star rating. read more

My husband fishes every fall in the area and has always wanted to take me to Salmon, Idaho to show me around. He made reservations for us at this lovely restaurant that is clearly a perfect dinner date destination! I had the Idaho Trout drizzled with a huckleberry balsamic reduction and it was spectacular! Not one bone and it tasted like they just pulled it out of the river! He had the Alaskan Salmon and was very pleased as well. Not only was the meal & company exceptional, our server Shelby could not have been more delightful! She was friendly, knew the menu and served us efficiently. Understaffed as so many restaurants are these days, she worked her butt off and never missed a beat! We did not mind our wait. Eaten at the Nook for 40 years. New owners. Nice people, nice employees. Hit and miss lately with food. Usually good. The manager needs to get outside and walk the perimeter. Place needs weeding. Worn out floormat into the back entrance scared my visitor friend ;-) And the chef should never again serve horse-radish with green food coloring as wasabi to go with the ahi. Having said that, I'll be back. A flip of the coin might land heads up. read more

So glad we tried this place out on the recommendation of our hotel. Food was really delicious. And as a bonus the servings were so generous! The food was just "okay" like many other reviews noted. It was our first time visiting Salmon, so we'll try another restaurant next time. The fillet-mignon was dry and the quality of the cut was poor, resulting in a chewy steak. The mashed potatoes were plain and the vegetables were mushy - which could be a sign that they were frozen and not fresh. The steak-Cobb salad was fine, but again, the quality of the steak could have been better. The service was good. It was obvious that the servers were very attentive to their patrons. Food was OK to good. Service is another issue. Table of 10 was seated 15 to 20 minutes after us and was served before us. ditto for another table of two as well as a table of one. Two skinny margaritas were ordered. One came full of ice. The other one with 25% ice. Waitress was embarrassed and had another one made on the house. Bill came and the third margarita was charged. manager/bartender insisted that we pay. she had no concern/care of any negative review. I was told that the waitress had no authority to offer a drink on the house. Crazy! As I was dialing the local police department, another manager appeared and made things right on the bill. We have many dinner meetings and birthdays here. It's expensive for Salmon but I've never had a bad steak. The burgers are to die for. The building used to be a hospital back in the early 1900s so it has a special place in my heart. read more
