A cafe is open in the Central Library!!!!!! From the incredible mind of Chef Shanita McAfee-Bryant who brought us The Spot at The Prospect, the Nook is now open for business! Designed as a learning lab / workforce development training kitchen, the Nook is staffed and run by young students of The Prospect's culinary program. They have a small cafe menu with breakfast sandwiches, lunch options, pastries, coffee, and caffeine free beverages. All options are named after writers to fit the library theme! The pastries in the case look stunning!! We tried the breakfast burrito and the smashed croissant sandwich. Both were delicious! The burrito was a little small for the price. Have some grace and patience for the students as they learn and grow! But I am so glad to see a cafe open in the empty cafe space in the Central Library! Things a great community culinary program to support!

We stopped by this coffee shop when we visited the kansas city central library. It is tucked into the right side when you walk in the main entrance. There is a 2000s bank/library vibe that matches the rest of the library. It is clean and there are cute flowers at every table. I wouldn't say the service is fast though. We waited about 10 minutes for a sandwich. I also ordered a bernstein latte which was okay but tasted kinda watered down. It was more cute than anything. The graham cracker on the top kinda floated to the bottom and dissolved which brought a weird texture.

But this place exceeded my expectations. I will definitely back to try every dish, but for the first go around, I had the goldilox and it will be hard not to just order that every time I return (But for my Yelp community, of course I will switch it up). Smoked salmon with a nice slab of cream cheese, complimented perfectly by cucumber and onion - you just can't go wrong. To top it off, the bagel-like bread (what they're known for) with the crispy shell and soft inside was everything I ever wanted and more. Service was quick - no complaints there. While you're waiting in line, they offer cute Bay Boy postcards (for free!) so between the souvenir and the food, there's no way you'll forget about them.

As luck would have it, I had to run an errand near the area and my decision was made. First off, the entrance isn't where you'd think it would be. The order window was closed and I noticed people going up to the deck to get in, so up I headed. The place was actually spacious and comfortable, it has a Caribbean vibe to it. After much consternation, I figured I'd make it tough on them and opted for the Reuben. As some somebody who has had many Reubens at the place where they were invented, Omaha's Blackstone Hotel, I can be a tough judge. This is definitely the best place to get one in KC, so I know that I'll be back for more. I even liked the bread that they used, it set it apart from other sammiches. And the service was great, so I'll be back.

Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and our food came out quickly. I ordered a turkey club while my dad got one as well, and unfortunately we both had the same issue. The turkey was on the dry side, and it was sliced much thicker than I personally prefer. I tend to like a thinner deli-style sliced turkey, so it just wasn't my favorite sandwich. My mom ordered one of the salads though, and honestly it looked better than my sandwich. It was loaded with fresh toppings, and she said the ranch was excellent. If I come back, I'd probably skip the sandwich altogether and give one of the salads a try. Overall, I can definitely appreciate what they're going for. The prices are fantastic, honestly unheard of in present day, and that's the main reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 3. It's a true local spot, and I wouldn't mind giving it another chance to try something different from the menu.

Nestled in Strawberry Hill, the restaurant is in a great location. When you think of a small neighborhood bar, you probably envision someplace like Breit's: plenty of beer, sandwiches done right, and friendly staff. What really stood out right away was the service. The lady taking our orders was incredibly nice and personable, and she actually took the time to walk us through the menu to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. I went with the #5, which is their version of a Sicilian Muffuletta. It was phenomenal. It's stacked with mortadella, salami, provolone, ham, and Swiss cheese, topped perfectly with a red wine vinaigrette chopped olive salad, all sitting on a beautifully toasted seeded loaf. One of my friends ordered the #20 Reuben, and it was a masterpiece. We're talking melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu corned beef, legit sauerkraut from Brooklyn, house-made Russian dressing, and melty Swiss, all piled high between two buttery, toasted slices of marble rye bread. Naturally, I also grabbed a couple of their homemade chocolate chip cookies, and we got a raspberry and blueberry tiramisu that was absolutely terrific. You just can't leave a place like this without hitting the dessert menu! I consider myself very lucky to have experienced this spot. Honestly, if I lived in the area, I'd probably gain 50 lbs--and it would be worth every single ounce!

They have a walk up window located inside The Commons. You just order at the window and they send you a text when it's ready to be picked up. Service has always been friendly and professional and I've never experienced a problem. The bread is unique. It's a Dutch crunch so it has a nice crunchy texture on top but the bread itself has a nice chew and holds up to whatever toppings you like. I personally favor the Crown Town club. It's a classic club sandwich-turkey, ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a chipotle mayo. I like to also add smoked Gouda because cheese improves everything imho. They also offer vegetarian options, hot sandwiches, chips, and cookies. I've honestly loved everything I've eaten from them over the years so you really can't go wrong. If you're at The Commons or even Cinder Block next door, definitely stop by and get something to eat. Highly recommend!
