We went on a holiday morning and it was crowded a bit chaotic inside. We were a part of 9 but were seated in about 15/20 minutes. The inside is not fancy and is typical Mumbai Udipi style restaurant. Fairly clean. The service because it was so busy was OK. Food did not together where it is supposed to. The food was good. The Vegan Rava Masala was good the potato masala was OK. The sambhar was good, but the chutneys lacked flavour - felt they were thinned. The Vegan Idli 65 was just colour added and deep fried with little flavour. The Vegan Gobi Manchurian was surprisingly good. The Vegan Chilly Parotha was sub par. The two Thali's were good. Value for money for sure. Very vegan friendly - except for the yogurt and dessert bowls all vegan. The channa masala (chickpeas) very typical South Indian style. The Veg Korma again south Indian style but very good. Food is good specially for what they charge but the quality of sambar and chutney can be better. Service is ok. The setting is more back home style. Ended up craving Dosas and getting some takeout from this place. I tried the plain masala dosa which came with chutney and potato sabji. Overall, I'd say the potato sabji lacked in flavor while the white chutney I enjoyed alot (coconut based). Unfortunately Dosa was a bit cold by the time we got it and was good but have tried ones with more flavor. The Rava dosa however I liked more - this was crispy and when we reheated it had a ncie crunch and flavor to it. Would go back to try the other items on the menu though! read more

We went here to celebrate the anniversary of my BF's parents. The food was very tasty but sadly the service was seriously lacking. My bf's family made a couple of small requests (dosa fillings on the side) which were all but ignored. By the time everyone's meals had arrived, people were just too hungry to send anything back. While buffet didn't have great reviews we still went ahead since we were hungry. Buffet was good. Items I loved the most: Idli 65, set uttapam, vada, Idli and fruit custard. The two chutneys were amazing too. Idli 65 was quite spicy and very well fried not to be oily. Set uttapam - bite size - was great. Vada were most amazing of everything. Soft, hot and great with chutneys or sambhar. Idli was great - soft and kind of melt in mouth. Dosas were great too. Items that were okay: Puri, Spicy Potato Sabzi, Dessert. Puri was a little oily - nothing amazing. Same goes for Sabzi. Instead of dry potato sabzi, the authentic Potato Bhaji would have made a better combination with Puri. There was a dessert whose name wasn't written but I wouldn't mind not knowing it since it wasn't much good. Nothing so great in ambiance. Service is just fine. We frequent Nilgiri's and have always enjoyed their food despite the questionable service. Today around 6pm, we purchased vadais to take to a relative's house. A child in the home we were visiting ate a vadai that had a large bolt in it. This is absolutely unacceptable. Thank goodness no one was hurt. We won't be buying from here anymore. read more

IT IS REALLY SPICY. I've ordered dishes here that didn't even state (on the menu) that they were spicy, but they were. Their dishes make my tongue cry sometimes... Cons: - Restaurants that offer meat dishes typically offer vegetarian options... why is it not the same vice versa? The Nilgiris is an all vegetarian restaurant - Service has gotten worse over the past year (I'm a regular). Their waiters used to be girls who were more attentive to customer needs. - This isn't necessarily a con-- but just keep in mind that you're supposed to go up to the register when it comes time to pay (they don't bring the bill to you). They've started to cheap out. I used to receive potato salad with any/every meal that I ordered here and they've taken that away. Also, the last time I ordered masala dosa, they cut my meal up into rectangles... WHY?! The waiters also tend to listen to my needs/orders and don't come back at all. Service is extremely poor. On Sept 10, I went there with my family and ordered 3 dosas. A regular order, we presumed. After waiting 40 minutes a waitress told us it would take another 20 min. When I said I wanted to cancel, she said I could do as I please (which though reasonable wasn't quite the answer expected). After another 15 minutes and watching every new-comer (who had to walked by us) getting served dosas we were ready to leave. Then one dosa arrived. We waited a bit and then all of us began nibbling at the solitary dosa. It was past 3 pm and hunger was driving us crazy. After another 5 min of watching dosas being handed out freely to all and sundry, we left the half-eaten dosa and walked out. Couldn't contact the manager as he "was busy". The dosa here are huge and they were delicious. Definitely the best tasting South Indian restaurant I have been to. We requested green chilli to be added for extra spice, and it was amazing. Got vada as a starter, and they were so good. Quite some wait time as they were really busy, but definitely worth it. read more

This place is my "go to" for a decent dosa or South Indian breakfast per se. The dosas here are as they should be. Very close in taste to the actual dosas in India. The sambar served along is hot and delicious. The chutneys are fresh and pack much flavour. There is a buffet too, but I personally prefer to order off the menu. The filter coffee served here is okay. Tastes like regular Nescafe. Recommend trying the ghee roast dosa. Only downside is the ambience. Restaurant lacks neatness and the decor is unwelcoming. The cash counter is an eye sore. Steel cutlery adds to this feeling. 3 stars for good food only. read more

Worst customer service ever experienced. Ordered Sambar Vada and 2 Dosas. Took nearly 25 min to bring Sambar Vada which was Cold. The bad. The food was another story.. We ordered two appetizers and two Doas. The appetizers were ok but the dosa were BAD. We ordered the Masala Dosa & Coriander Masala Dosa. I have been here a couple of times now, the first was with friends and this time it was with family. We didn't get to seat down and eat, but decided to get take out. We ordered the usual Mysore Masala Dosa. I will be honest I have had better dosa else where. But it isn't the worst. The sauces they gave us with our take out were alright, they lacked spice. The service at this place isn't the best my food was ready and sitting there for at least 10 mins and then the gentlemen at the front called me to grab my order. I am a regular customer at this restaurant me and my wife visit this restaurant atleast once a month i can show all my credit card statements as a proof. I went to this location on aug 14th 2016 for lunch buffet with my wife, the restaurant was busy and its understandable as it was a sunday, manager by the name Param not sure if i got the name right but 100% sure name starts with P, asked us to move to a different table 2 times and i was with a toddler so i needed the high chair as well, by the time we sat on the 1st table i went to grab food and my wife was settling down on the table with a toddler by the time i grabbed the food i saw my wife was asked to move to a different table which was acceptable as high chair was blocking thier way so on the second table the high chair was bought and the manager asked us to move to the 3rd table as this time he claimed that high chair will block the way for customers to go grab the food and this time it was not blocking the way as one chair was taken out to place a high chair so i told the manager this is not how you treat your customers but then he straight away told me " If you want you can leave the restaurant and go" I had a plate full of food and was ready to start to eat but i left the plate as is on the table and told my wife to leave and we stepped out without eating, the manager had no manners of apologizing he did not even apologize once, he just let us leave as if we were homeless. I have taken all my family members to this restaurant whenever they came from india but now no more not atleast until Manager like param is working. Food is extraordinary delicious no complaints about the food but there shud be a way to treat customers and this bitter experience ruined our sunday completely. Later on i called the owner BALA at scarborough location and left my name and number asking him to call me back but havent heard anything yet.
