I was excited to try this place as I'm always on the lookout for a great cupcake. The selection was very broad but unfortunately the cupcakes my buddy and I tried weren't very good. The cake was so incredibly dry on my black & white cupcake that I couldn't finish it. My friends strawberry cream cupcake was slightly more moist but still dry. And at $4.25 a pop I expected a delicious dessert. The icing on both cupcakes were good but couldn't salvage the dense and dryness of the cake part. Hopefully my experience is a one-off for this business but I won't be revisiting. read more

The place is decently sized, but when I saw the pastries, there was not a great variety, so I was just looking at the pastries and cakes like, "Okay..." I bought 3 cupcakes and a muffin tonight. I gave my friend the lemon cupcake for a little surprise. Her cupcake was cold, stale, dry and tasteless. I got home and decided to cut a little bit off of the 2 I bought for myself. The strawberry one had green mold inside!!! I couldn't make myself even try the other one or the muffin. Went in to see about having a cake made. The guy working told me they don't do cake shapes or fondant. Then I asked to see a look book of examples and there were several cakes with fondant included. This is a nice little bakery with some cool options for sweets. My sister and I had a gingerbread cupcake (soft with a good topping) that we really liked. However, we had to specifically point out which one we wanted because the one we chose had much more topping than some of the others that looked poorly made. I have never had a cake from sweet indulgence that didn't like knock me out from hyperventilation from how delicious it was / the sugar coma I went into an hour after eating 900 pieces. Chocolate cake with cofee icing, basic black cake, basic white cake, chocolate raspberry cake, strawberry cream crake, fruit tarts, pies, I've had them all and have never thought anything besides "mmmmmm delicious" after each and every bite. I have been here many times in the morning before work to get a cup of coffee or latte. Their service is prompt and drinks are great! The only thing that may take a while is if they are training someone which you'd expect during training! I've also ordered custom cakes for different occasions and they have always been beautiful and delicious! I'd recommend the breakfast cookie, banana muffin or bran muffin to eat for breakfast. If you feel like treating yourself with a cupcake (or some other pastry), this place might just do the trick. Don't expect a fancy french pastry shop - it does not aim at that style, but something simpler. As the adjective "sweet" suggests - their baked goods are indeed very (very) sweet. If you have a sweet tooth, give it a try, otherwise skip it (or resort to a lemon bar, which is not bad at all). The pecan chocolate pie was nice, but all too sweet. We also tried a strawberry cupcake, which was really delicious. I'd like to see things a tad less sweet. Drink wise, they could improve. We ordered coffee, which was decent, and a hot chocolate that left a lot to be desired. It felt like a cup of boiled milk with a dash of Nesquik powder, and hardly tasted like anything, and certainly does not justify its (outrageous) price. If you go there, stick to plain coffee. The service was OK, not overly enthusiastic but not hostile either. The attitude was polite but apathetic - like at the DMV. In the dining business you need to be more friendly and outgoing. The lady at the counter is pretty - a smile would make her shine, and as an added bonus, will make customers feel more welcome. Will I return ? I might - I sometimes have a craving for a cupcake, and I like the neighborhood. That said, they have some things to work on. Pandemonium only had two flavors of donuts that I was not interested in at all, so I decided to stop by Sweet Indulgence as I had fond memories of them from my childhood. I got my same order, too - blueberry muffin. From the outside, it didn't look as if there were too many blueberries in, but there were plenty once I cracked it open. I really wondered if it would taste the same as I remember. I think it was pretty close. But I do remember wanting to devour them before; not as much anymore. This was my first trip here. I ordered a small coffee and a blueberry scone. The coffee was lukewarm at 7am. The scone had a few problems. Scones are supposed to be dry. This scone was dry and hard, yet doughy. It's hard to explain. Basically it was like a lump of dough with zero flavor. The blueberries may as well not have even been present. They added nothing to the taste or texture. Perhaps given the time of year, they were unable to get really good blueberries, or they used frozen. I will try them again. But, for $6 for a scone and small coffee, it will need to be better for me to go back after that. read more

I had ordered my wedding cake from Sweet Indulgence Bakery almost two years ago and to this day, I easily recall my anger and irritation about what occurred. Basically what happened was that the cake looked nothing like the cake that I had emailed a picture of to the owner AND it looked messy and crooked (think very unsmooth and crooked lines). If i can figure out how to upload a picture, I will! Second, she got the two flavors I chose wrong. She was very lucky that 1) we had a fantastic wedding and were in too good of a mood to be truly angry and 2) that my husband spoke with her. I'm still pissed that we only got 25% off a very pricy cake. But as you can see, I still have a grudge. She didn't get one thing about the cake right! I ordered a small cake for my first anniversary. It was absolutely terrible. The buttercream icing tasted like they just slapped butter on the cake. We ate 2 bites and couldn't choke down anymore. This is the worst bakery cake I have ever had and I paid $30 for it. To make matters worse - when I called they blamed it on our taste buds. I went to Sweet Indulgence for a birthday cake. I walked in and my first impression was that the place was very cute. They had so many yummy things on display, I was overwhelmed. I told them I wanted a cake for a chocolate lover. They suggested the double chocolate truffle mousse cake. My daughter and everyone else loved the cake. I'm not a big chocolate cake fan but this cake was delicious. I will be back again. Maybe next time I will try the cupcakes. read more

Completely devoid of any chocolate flavor including the chocolate curls on top. The only flavor was a sickening artificial raspberry flavor. It was stale and dry as if it was a week old. I bought a birthday cake for my friend here yesterday.. so unless I went to a phantom bakery, this business is not closed! The woman in charge seemed friendly enough.. I had not made a special cake request 48 hours in advance, but looked into their case and found the delicious looking Strawberry Cream Cake. It was small (maybe 6" diameter, round) but satisfied 8 young healthy adults after a rather large meal (with probably 2-3 slices to spare!). The cake was really delicious.. the cake itself was moist and not too sweet. It was layered with a strawberry jelly and a whipped cream frosting. It really reminded me of one of my favorite cakes from Germany (Erdbeerkuchen), and it was nice to get that fresh summery strawberries and cream flavor in the middle of the Illinois winter. I can't speak for their other desserts (pastries will set you back $1.50-3) or coffees, but everything looked tasty! read more

There are beautiful to look at but exceptionally dry & messy to eat. I took one bite & it crumbly all over my shirt and onto my pants. The cake portions were bland and the frosting was regular. I purchased a Peanut Butter, Strawberry Lemonade, Carrot Cake, & a chocolate concoction. Very dissatisfied. I've had 5 different products since Dec. 2013 to May 1, 2014. An oreo chocolate cheesecake was excellent. Chocolate chip cookie--terrible. Dark, flat, exploded upon biting into it. Dry. A sugar cookie was just as bad, thin, dry, brittle, tasteless. Tonight I picked up an apple pie and a red velvet cupcake. The pie was unlike anything I've seen before, the crust disintegrated when I unwrapped it and cut it. the pie was mushy and flavorless. The apples had all congealed and was like firm solid applesauce. The cupcake dry and hard. I will not purchase from them again. read more

I was in desperate search of a cake a few weeks ago. It was my bf's birthday and what can I say? He loves cake. I called around and being that it was such short notice I was having no luck. Called the commercial grocery story. Come to find out they were out of color spray. I wanted them to spray his cake to make it look colorful. Then I was told they were out of chocolate icing. Great. No thanks. What's a cake without chocolate? Got on yelp and found this place. All they had that day were a German Chocolate cake and Strawberry Cream cake. I got the chocolate one of course. Told them it was for a birthday and asked them to decorate it a little. WOW! They did such an awesome job making it look pretty. They even put little flowers all over it. It was definitely a good-looking cake. Later that night, we were in heaven. It was wonderful. The cake itself looked so rich and sweet but in my mouth, it wasn't an overwhelming sweetness. It was perfect! The chocolate melted in my mouth, the cake was moist and delicious, best German chocolate cake I've ever had!! Since then, I've been back once to try the strawberry creme cupcakes. One of our favorite bakeries in the area for the variety! Any occasion we can think of we stop at Sweet Indulgences for our baked goods. Made to order cakes and sweets are always outstanding. Second time they forgot the icing with the rolls. The staff is very uninterested and not helpful with questions. Bought a couple of cookies to take home and they were thrown in bag and in pieces. One day before Thanksgiving, I went into this place for the first time around 2pm and they were closing at 4pm. It was not very busy. I asked the price of the boxes of turkey cookies and cake balls. The female associate asked the male associate the prices and he told her $18 for the cookies and $14 for the cake balls. She said the cake balls were on "special" and a good deal since the box with half as many was $10. I requested one box of each as well as four danish at the counter before checking out. The girl checking me out said loudly that the cake balls were $18 (not mentioning the price of the other items) and I responded that I was told $14. It was surprising that I was told one price a few minutes before but I went ahead and paid for the transaction which totaled $52.00. She asked if I wanted a receipt and I said yes. While driving home, I pulled over to look at the receipt and it was not itemized with the prices. I knew I'd paid more than I expected at this bakery and called for clarification about the price of the cake balls. I asked for the manager and "Haley Emmend" got on the phone said she was sort of the manager and asked what I wanted. I explained what had happened---and said I would have taken the smaller box of cake balls if I wasn't told the large box was on "special." She rudely replied that the price of the cake balls was $19. I asked if she was the one who helped me and she said she wasn't. She said I could not bring back the cake balls to get the smaller box. I responeded that I couldn't come back anyway because it wasn't convenient and said I'd be satisfied with a $5.00 credit to be used after the holiday. She asked me to hold and came back 3 or 4 minutes later saying that they could do nothing but send me a coupon for a cupcake--that was it. I asked it the owner or any other manager was available and she said "no." She said I could take or leave the offer of the coupon and couldn't claim if after the holiday. Haley was abrupt and condesceding. Like Kristy, L, I had a non-accommodating experience and the reason I gave one star is that I feel that I was duped by the pricing of my cake balls. Maybe prices can be posted for these types of items like the items that are individually labelled so that no one else has to have the experience I had. read more
