I'm normally a huge fan of this bakery as the quality of the bakes are pretty good so we come here often as you can see in my previous review. However, a few weeks ago, (6/6/26) I had a disappointing experience with a staff member there while picking up an online cake order. On the day of cake pick up, I was done with errands at around 10am, I called the bakery to ask if it was possible to pickup the cake early. The girl on the phone sounded very annoyed with my request (I was just asking, they could have said no) and told me they don't do pickups until noon but I can still come in. So I get there and she immediately starts treating me like I was a huge inconvenience. As she's handing me the cake, she pulls out a receipt and started scolding me that pickups don't start until noon and it's right there on the website. I showed her my email receipt confirming 10:30am pickup and how there's literally two different sections with different times on their website so i was obviously confused. but she ignored my explanation and continued chastising me for the misunderstanding of the pickup times. I just let it go as I didn't want to argue but I left feeling very upset. I think management/owners dropped the ball on training staff on how handle these types of situations with professionalism and not immediately placing blame on the customer. I tried my best to smile and be friendly to her but she was starting to become defensive. There was no accountability for the user interface of their website. She made sure to make it known that it was my mistake alone. I have not decided whether I will continue to support this establishment but I won't be back for awhile. read more

Definitely very Asian bakery with lighter flavor profile. The okara cake was a very interesting concept. I've made stuff with okara before and like the particular flavor and texture-- it feels drier and denser because of the soy pulp, but it's something I like. I also like how not too sweet everything is. Their miso salted caramel tart was also good, I also like that they sell day-old stuff with half price. I can get behind the concept and the intention behind how this bakery is ran. Very excited to have discovered this on our trip to visit uiuc. Would've loved to try their sencha, hojicha, and genmaicha next time! read more

Incredible matcha, such nice service, cute little intermediate outdoor area and very clean ambiance

I usually come here for my strawberry cake.. but today there was none. I tried a chocolate cookie with mochi instead. I was gifted some chocolate scraps in a clear packet. So I went home and immediately had to try the scraps. I started with one little piece. Then I ate another and another until there was no more. That was the best baggy of chocolate cake scraps I've ever consumed. Come for the desserts but leave with the scraps! read more

Went in and unfortunately they were going to be closing in 15 minutes, no worries, we knew what we wanted to try. Plus, their T-Shirt Brand was very cute, especially for the younger set; picked up a shirt for our daugther. Here's an update after getting Suzu's for 5 years: they're still great. My favorites on the menu are the egg salad sando, the curry pan, the matcha mochi cake, and the cream pan. Quality is consistent and the flavors are great. I get a birthday cake from Suzu's almost every year. read more

I love the concept of this bakery, cute with fresh made pastries daily that are presented very nicely with a variety of colors, shapes, textures, and aromas. The service is friendly and prices are a little on the higher side but reasonable. It's also great that the offer traditional items that are quite difficult to find outside of the Chicago. As for the flavor of the dishes, I found them to be okay. Perhaps a bit more dense and not as moist as I would've preferred. The sweetness being a bit on the lower side was nice but I'm not certain that it always brings out the desired flavor combination. The items do definitely feel healthier though than other Asian bakeries (particularly the Korean-French, and Hong Kong style). Overall, good but not super special for those who've eaten at other Japanese bakeries before. read more

First visit! They have gluten free treats and the man behind the counter was very helpful and knowledgeable about ingredients for allergens! Yay! A very nice, light ambience with a little patio for sitting in front of the cafe. I tried a GF carrot 'cake'; it was delicious! My husband and I were looking for some sweet treats and went to Suzu's Bakery. When we walked in we were impressed by the look of the Bakery items. These are pricy items so I was expecting a lot out of them. We got the miso brownie and the chocolate burbon cupcake. When we tasted then we were immediately disappointed. The desserts were dry and were lacking in rich flavor. The prices were outrageous for the quality of food we got. It was a nice and cozy place to eat a bite and take a break. I would skip Suzu's Bakery and go somewhere else. read more

I love Suzu so much, I literally drove 2 hours to get their pastries because I was craving for it!!! Their pastries is legit Japanese/ Asian sweet standard. You should try everything. Service was amazing! I made an order through the phone for a 6-inch lemon cheesecake with seasonal fruit (not pictured oops), 2 Anko Pans, and a roll cake for my boyfriend's birthday. They let me make a custom order for the roll cake to be coffee flavored instead of chocolate. When I went to the store, the employees were very nice and the whole process went smoothly. It's also so cute inside and has nice vibes/aesthetic. The coffee cake was beautiful and tasted just how I imagined. The other desserts were great as well; what I expect from a Japanese bakery. Light and satisfying. The products from Suzu's are on the pricier side, but I think it's reasonable for what it is and where it's located (in central IL). It might not be the best bakery in the world, but it's worth it depending on what you're looking for. Overall, I was happy with my experience and will be going back! read more

Cute spot alert! I love going to cute bakeries and looking at all the goodies they have. Since I can't eat all of them, might as well stare at them and imagine how good they are. I came in on a Friday morning to order their shokupan bread because they only sell them on select mornings. I also ordered their matcha latte after seeing high reviews about them. You can tell they use excellent quality matcha by the color. Their selections are few but mighty! I've had a few cakes here before and they're all great. Suzu is our favorite place for sweets and tea. If you are looking for treats that are mildly sweet, this is your place! No need to just take a nibble off of your choice, because the sugar content is lower than most American bakery items. The cafe is so cute, and offers a little outdoor seeting area as well. It is nestled in the downtown Champaign area and located by some other cute shops. I like their Matcha Mochi cake! read more

There are a lot of unique tastes inside of Suzu's Bakery. While I'm partial to the tarts, I have really enjoyed the soft serve Macha ice cream. I low key have a love affair with their hibiscus (lychee?) iced tea. The spot is just so damn cute! Very happy its in downtown Champaign! read more

I ordered a strawberry roll cake for a birthday. It was beautiful and delicious, had the perfect amount of sweetness and fresh strawberries. They have wonderful customer service as well. This is a delightful place. I tried the Yuzu cakes, mini cheesecakes, both of which were mildly sweet, light and refreshing. The small sizes are just perfect. I also tried a bourbon chocolate cake and that was pretty good but I thought the other two were comparatively much better. I would say that the cake had complex notes and was pretty good. The kids didn't seem as enamored. We had a mochi that they didn't think was very sweet and the chocolate cake was not too their liking. But I think that's a positive overall. The treats seem light, not overloaded with sugar, etc. Interiors are decorated well and it's pleasant to sit inside. A bit pricey though. This place is a winner! I would say 4.5 stars. read more

I just found this little Gem in downtown Champaign! Bakery items are delicious and made to the highest quality. I ordered an iced matcha that was honestly one of the best matchas i have ever tasted. I got a little lemon cake, strawberry mochi and a chocolate custard cream puff type dessert. The creme puff was my absolute favorite, although everything else was completely worth the cost.
