I guess this is supposed to be a fringe? It's like half my head.
    Janine Y.

This is literally the first time in my life I have left a salon and not gotten one compliment on my hair cut. I have very nice hair and I ALWAYS get compliments when it is freshly blown out, even when I do it myself at home. The person who cut my hair really knew how to use the scissors and take away the bulk, but she didn't listen to me at all! I told her I had been trying to grow my hair out because I want bangs and described that I want to be able to wear my hair straight or naturally wavy. Well, instead of honoring the style I was requesting, she proceeded to give me THE SAME HAIRCUT IVE BEEN TRYING TO GROW OUT! Sure, the cut was done well, but I HATE IT. I had explained to her that I felt that this style was making my face look very heavy and I wanted to open up the cut to reveal my cheekbones, and the style she gave me is like a high end bowl cut with a thick tail in the back, and it completely obscures the entire outline of my face. Literally, the only way I can show my cheekbones now is by pulling my hair back. Why would I even get a haircut to accomplish this? I was pretty upset. It's like I have two different hair cuts - one in the front and one in the back, like an updated mullet or something. At the end she explained that where she comes from a "fringe" is considered bangs "TOO" and told me next time I should show a picture!! If she needs a photo instead of actually consulting with the customer in front of her, she should consider getting a different kind of job. In the end she offered to give me bangs, but it would look completely ridiculous. Literally half my head of very voluminous hair is the "fringe" she mentioned, so how are bangs even possible when I have 65% of my hair cut to my chin with a thick tail in the back? This is going to be a very high maintenance style and I dont know even where to begin with day to day styling. When the front desk person told me "your hair will grow" I almost started crying. Im in my 50's and I dont want to wait for at least year or more to grow out this style just so I can have the kind of cut I asked for to begin with. I dont understand how hair stylists do not discuss with you how a cut will frame your face before chopping into your hair. It seems like the whole point of getting a haircut is to look and feel better about yourself. I left feeling ugly and knowing I will be stuck with an extremely unflattering cut for a year or longer. And the fact that the male manager told me "it will grow" has me infuriated!! Im almost kicking myself for giving her a very nice tip, but she was nice and I was so flustered that I just tipped as I normally would. Does anyone have advice for a stylists who actually listens and talks to you about how to accomplish the look you are going for? I would REALLY appreciate a recommendation. (this is not a fringe - see photo)

I've been going to The New End for nearly a year now. My partner goes here on his own as well. My experience with the entire staff has been so welcoming. Nachi usually cuts my hair. She always offers great suggestions and makes me feel so beautiful after every cut. The New End is an amazing local salon. You definitely will enjoy your hair experience here.

OMG Barry Nelson is a dream! I finally took the leap and had my hair colored for the first time. I was super nervous, but Barry was just...chef's kiss. Not only did he make feel right at ease, he also gave me superb advice, held my hand throughout the process, and gave me the most fabulous haircut! Forgive my crappy selfie skills, the photo doesn't do it justice.

I have been Comiing to this little salon. I have been having Zarah cut, color and blow out my hair. She is Excellent. I highly recommend her.

Love this hidden gem local salon! Owners knows what's trendy. When I asked her whatever she thinks it's the best for me, she gave me multiple options and I could pick from her recommendations. And I loved it! She knows my hair type, what looks good on me and found some pictures from internet together and decided what we do today together. She has 20+ years of experience and she is a very good listener. Thank u so much! I'll be back in 3 months!

I had a great experience at The New End with Zarah. She was very friendly and professional. She listened to what I wanted and gave me a perfect haircut. I love how my hair looks and feels. Hair salon is very cozy and every one is friendly. They feel me warm. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quality haircut!

Appointments became rushed, started late, and lacked even basic professionalism. You're barely greeted when you walk in, and the overall tone makes it feel like you're inconveniencing them just by being there. I told them multiple times I had a head injury from a concussion and the lack of care was very concerning how abrasively they washed and handled my head. My most recent appointment was a complete failure. I asked for a warm, golden brown and came prepared with multiple reference photos. While the color was processing, I clearly flagged that it was pulling purple. That concern was dismissed, and the product was left on longer. The result was the darkest my hair has ever been, almost black with a cool, purple hue. The exact opposite of what I requested. The color job is all mismatched, the lower part of my hair significantly darker, the roots are sloppy and uneven. When I pointed this out, the response was defensive and dismissive. At one point, I was sarcastically asked if I wanted to "bleach it," which is an inappropriate and careless suggestion for already fine hair. It was mind blowing to have this handled so poorly and then be rushed through a cut that does not look anywhere close to the quality of the past cuts. I followed up requesting a refund, given that this will take months to correct and fade, and received no response for over 48 hours. It's not even about the money - it's about the severe lack of respect. What's most surprising is that this level of defensiveness and lack of accountability was unacceptable, especially after such a grave mistake. Instead of thoughtful adjustment and ownership, the response was dismissive in the moment and silent afterward. Mistakes happen. How they're handled is what defines a business. This was not handled well. NYC has no shortage of salons that can deliver both technical skill and professionalism. This is not one of them. Updating this with a pic and additional NYC HAIR SALON SEO terms so future customers are warned since the salon has decided to block me after no satisfactory resolution. The pic at the top right was me pre-hair f*** up. Only come to this salon if you'd like to come home and cry.

This was their "best advice for me" and that I should come back and get both together. I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I haven't cut my hair in 6 months and I have really long straight natural hair so you can say it is a blank canvas. This is probably one of the worst haircut I have gotten in years compared to other places that are in different price ranges. Leaving the salon it looked good styled but when I went home to wash it and had more time to look without it curled I saw really choppy layers and the length is much shorter than i wanted. For a cut I paid $107-110 not including tips and expected a decent cut for that amount. Truly disappointing as holidays are coming up and I have been wearing a hat to cover up, cannot wait for this to grow out but will take months. Ara was really sweet and nice but I don't think the skills were there.
