I paid $480 for my appointment and left with hair that looked patchy and not like what we had discussed. While disappointing results can sometimes happen, what bothered me most was the complete lack of communication afterward. I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

Updating my review: I used to come here because the haircuts were strong, but over time the…read moreexperience deteriorated significantly. Appointments became rushed, started late, and lacked even basic professionalism. You're barely greeted when you walk in, and the overall tone makes it feel like you're inconveniencing them just by being there. I told them multiple times I had a head injury from a concussion and the lack of care was very concerning how abrasively they washed and handled my head. My most recent appointment was a complete failure. I asked for a warm, golden brown and came prepared with multiple reference photos. While the color was processing, I clearly flagged that it was pulling purple. That concern was dismissed, and the product was left on longer. The result was the darkest my hair has ever been, almost black with a cool, purple hue. The exact opposite of what I requested. The color job is all mismatched, the lower part of my hair significantly darker, the roots are sloppy and uneven. When I pointed this out, the response was defensive and dismissive. At one point, I was sarcastically asked if I wanted to "bleach it," which is an inappropriate and careless suggestion for already fine hair. It was mind blowing to have this handled so poorly and then be rushed through a cut that does not look anywhere close to the quality of the past cuts. I followed up requesting a refund, given that this will take months to correct and fade, and received no response for over 48 hours. It's not even about the money - it's about the severe lack of respect. What's most surprising is that this level of defensiveness and lack of accountability was unacceptable, especially after such a grave mistake. Instead of thoughtful adjustment and ownership, the response was dismissive in the moment and silent afterward. Mistakes happen. How they're handled is what defines a business. This was not handled well. NYC has no shortage of salons that can deliver both technical skill and professionalism. This is not one of them. Updating this with a pic and additional NYC HAIR SALON SEO terms so future customers are warned since the salon has decided to block me after no satisfactory resolution. The pic at the top right was me pre-hair f*** up. Only come to this salon if you'd like to come home and cry.

This was their "best advice for me" and that I should come back and get both together. I only needed a haircut and this was the only chance I got (I am a SAHM with 2 kids and minimal backup except this day) so I said I would consider it but I need a cut now. It was 6 months since my last. That must have just not been the right thing to say bc I was judged, insulted during the entire session and I got the worst haircut of my life. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I could have done it myself.

I asked for ash brown (which I usually get) but I got a way lighter color than expected and the bleach (he went over the bleach twice) really damaged my hair. This really pissed me off because in the middle of my appointment, I even heard an assistant ask in Mandarin "is she getting a haircut?" and the stylist shook his head. I was really unhappy with my hair that I went to get a hair treatment (for the dry, damaged hair) and toner at a different salon a week later. That stylist even asked "who did your hair?"

ForStyler / Albert -- Do Not Trust…read more I was a client of Albert for about a year with an agreed-upon price we literally shook hands on before my session. He then handed me off to an unlicensed-seeming man who was coughing on me, repeatedly stepping outside to smoke, and smelled so bad I had to hold my breath -- I've filed a complaint about this with the New York Department of State's cosmetology board. This man got bleach all over my Longchamp bag and I received not so much as an apology. I waited 45 minutes past my appointment time. I felt completely forced into letting this stranger do my color and was given no real choice. When the bill came, Albert was nowhere to be found -- and the bill listed him as having performed all services, which was a lie. It also included services I never received. My hair came out gray. I get the same blonde highlights every time. When I raised it, Albert told me to "wait a few days and get used to it." The bill was significantly higher than my agreed-upon price -- for the exact same service I always get. Nothing was different, and yet I was wildly overcharged. I was the last person in the salon on a Sunday night, rushed, uncomfortable, told I could not leave until I paid -- so I overpaid just to get out of there. The problem was that the color was still pretty high up such that I would have to cut off too much hair to get all the remaining color gone, so I needed to dye my hair back to black since my goal was to go back to my natural hair color and go short for the summer. Yvette (colorist) and Jairol (hair stylist) handled my appointment and were awesome! First off I was LATE by half an hour which I was so embarrassed by but they still took my appointment. Yvette's scalp massage during the hair washing was very relaxing! I showed Jairol example photos of the cut I was going for and he gave me advice on what he thought suited me, so my cut ended up being like a mix of the reference photos that I showed him. Before he was going to move on to blow drying my hair, I voiced my wish to go a little shorter, to which he obliged. I even told her a previous stylist had butchered my hair, and instead of showing empathy, she defended him, saying maybe it wasn't malicious -- when I know it absolutely was.
