The not so good that aren't deal breakers was that general odor of the room and furnishings that comes with rustic lodges that are over 50 years old(?). And more concerning are the paper thin walls where you can clearly hear most noises emanating from adjacent rooms. Of course, this would only be a problem during busy season or if you have noisy neighbors. Be prepared and maybe bring ear plugs.

The rooms are very clean. The back of the motel has the cutest sitting area with nice chairs and grass to lay in, which we discovered when we had the "honey moon" suite. This 3br/2ba remodeled 1960 house is located an ideal .9 mile from the town's cafes and Main Street. It was spotlessly clean, cozy and functional for our vacation goals of wine tasting/purchasing 2 hours away, relaxing, hiking, and going out to eat. Kim is a very responsive and caring owner/manager. Her emailed arrival instructions packet was chock full of helpful and useful info. We needed nothing, but I'm sure that if we did, whatever we would have needed would have been taken care of easily. The home's furnishings were not luxurious, but more rustic and functional in that sense..and they fit right in with a simple but updated beach house. The built in master king size bed's mattress and linens were very clean and comfortable to sleep on with no issue. Wifi was fine, we didn't watch cable tv at all with that awesome ocean and sunsets directly off the large rear deck. Regarding the other unfortunate yelp reviews here about getting gouged for furnishings damage, do like I always do when checking in and out of a private rental and also a rental car: as you walk in, take a 5 min video walk through, be detailed in pointing out damage flaws, dents or stains verbally as you narrate. Then you have your obvious proof to protect you if an owner or management company wants to improperly attempt to charge you at check out, or 3 months later...but do so before you really get settled in (or drive away). And yes, I clearly documented the dented ss fridge, and hey there's no way they're going to charge other guests twice for this...calm down. Highlights were the beach side fire pit for sunset fires and s'mores...designed with fire safety in mind, the home's strong shower water pressure was a plus, the fresh crisp ocean air from leaving the kitchen window cracked at night was nice. Electric wall heaters worked great when waking up to take the morning's chill off. Let me save you time and research effort and do like we did..so you're sure to have an enjoyable visit: Restaurant recommendations: Yolk in town for breakfast every day at 8am (closed Tues/Wed.). Just go. Lobster scrambled eggs/custard French toast...yum, I'm a huge fan and there every day. Get your groceries and $7 kiln dried firewood bunch at the Big Apple Grocery in town: no price gouging. Fine solid selections. And try their awesome fresh made to order deli $7 turkey sandwich as big as your head (see my photo, it was a mind scrambler). Best surprisingly great quality dinner for 15 miles around is the new Salmonberry Saloon in Wheeler 5 miles away. I had the halibut collar, scallops, and my wife had their deliciously prepared salmon, that plus drinks $130..best water view and food quality/informal/locals only. It's like a clean blue collar bar on the bay, with gourmet pro wood grilled non-fried seafood. Worked great for us. Wish we went there first..and often. 2nd up is the fine Neah Kah Nie Bistro in town (reservations are a must/no large groups/$160 with apps, mains, and drinks for 2 would be right). Pay no heed to the hostile yelp reviews, they just apparently brought their unruly children and didn't have a reservation. Our food was delicious. The 2-3 Cannon Beach French bistro cafes are ok (like the cramped but competent Newman's etc.), but not worth the drive or expense when you have the Salmonberry Saloon's choices for far less. Less hokey tourists, too, in my opinion. Use yelp, tripadvisor, and reddit to figure this out more if necessary. Wine tasting/purchasing/wine clubs: 98 miles away, just glorious Oregon Pinots to ship home. Must visit Lange, Elk Cove etc... and a super yum lunch The Horseradish in Carlton. This is an awesome day trip and our primary reason for coming as we do every few years. Hiking at the Oswald State Park. We did the Cape Falcon trail, highly recommended. Moderately strenuous. The views during and at the end 2.5 miles each way were very much worth it. Think a 1000 tree roots to step over, then coastal ocean view trails. Manzanita town guests and locals were very friendly and... well...just plain nice, in my opinion. Older in age, too. Nice fun conversations with the Portlandians at MacGregor's Whiskey Bar in town, by the way. There's plenty of parking, and check in was super easy, you go up to a counter in the Cafe & they assign your phone number as your code for your keypad on your door. Though, the cafe was super busy when we arrived & another set of guests arrived right after me and stood closer up my arse than even my husband. The rooms are spacious and I really like the vibe in them. The dark, textured soundboard wall is great, the lighting is dimmable and moody, and having a Jack Johnson record & player in the room is a magical touch. The room is stocked with plenty of towels (thank you! Why isnt this always the case?!) and extra bedding and pillows for the sofa bed. Robes, again a magical touch. The soaps are great quality, and all have a nice matching scent. For being pet friendly (I'm not a dog fan + I have asthma) I was worried when I booked it, but there wasn't a trace of dog in our room, yay! The bedding is very comfy, the mattress and pillows good! Only downfall is that the metal bed creaks pretty bad, in our room at least. A sound like nails on a chalkboard when you toss and turn in your sleep. I dont see an ice machine available & I wish hotels would start providing bottled water or some sort of drinking water system, because the only option for water is tap from the bathroom or the super spendy boutique grocery up the street. There was a super random, strong unpleasant scent in our room one day, but by the time we had opened the doors to air it out, it was pretty much gone. But my biggest challenge here was the thin walls. You can hear everything, even with it all being one level. We have two kids, so we're understanding to noise, but some people, including those booked right next to us, parent differently because they let their kid stomp and bounce around alllll day and night. I mean it. I finally got to sleep and then woke up to pee at 11:30pm, still heard the bouncing & then heard the dad say "enough, go to bed!". At $200/night with fees, it's an expensive stay for what you get, comparatively to stays at other beaches. A lux bed & breakfast in Lincoln City, or hotels with pools, saunas, cookies in the lobby, wine & cheese hour, fire pits and with ocean views..BUT you're in Manzanita. The options are limited to none so you get what's available & they don't have any of that here. Homes, hotels, rentals, food, etc. are all high price. It's a wonderful relaxed town and the beach is gorgeous and my favorite on the coast. Stay if that's what you're looking for and you don't mind splurging a little extra for basics to be here.

We stayed at The Brookhaven @ 105 NW 23rd Ave #104 Rockaway Beach OR, 97136 - my sister rented it out for my birthday for approx $200 a night and we stayed 2 nights. The place has great structural appeal, panoramic views from living room and dining room/kitchen. We loved the open floor plan. My sister is an Architect. A 2-bedroom 2 full bathroom setup for 7 adults and 1 dog. 1 Master bedroom with a Queen Bed which my sister and brother in law took. And 1 bedroom with 4 bunk beds with adjacent full bathroom with shower and no tub. Hubby, Mom, brother and I slept in the room of bunk beds. It was hard for mom and I to sit so low. The long hall way to the rooms looks nice, keeping the room doors closed helps to keep the heat in. So, as soon as we called Vacasa to complaint about the heater and hot water issue, they told my sister that we had to use one or the other but not both at the same time. What? Are these the early 1800's when electricity was discovered? It doesn't make sense that a $200 a night place, has an electricity box compromise in this way. The water heater turns OFF when the air heater is Turned ON to warm up the Condo. (????!!!!???) Cold showers in the winter????? Not even in a third world county's villa!!! Totally RETROGRADE. It's difficult to quickly get up in the freezing cold Condo, take a quick cold shower and get out running. And while it may not matter in the summer months, to charge the same price in the winter, is ATROCIOUS!! Fitures look nice, but found out some are just place lightly and fall apart the minute touched. I love the glass door/windows, they can be open like doors or Windows. This is a mixed feelings review, because the negative doesn't outweigh the positive. Meaning, FIX the Negative. This is a WAKE UP call for the management team to do something about it. Do you need me to supply names and #s of Electrician professionals to you, so that you can FIX this matter? I would love to stay here again, but this electrical matter needs to be FIXED and perhaps maybe the elevator too. To management: Please don't bother to respond with a Management Team pathetic email if you are not going to FIX the problem. I don't need your email. While compensation would be nice, it won't fix the problem. YOUR POCKET BOOK needs customers! So, you should think of FIXING the problem. To my Elite and non Elite Yelpers: Would you rent a place in the winter for $200 a night where the electric panel was compromise in such a way that you could ONLY use it EITHER way, to heat the water to take hot showers or to heat the air that warms up the condo?? There is no fireplace, so you depend on body heat and the air heater. So you cannot take a hot bath unless you walk outside the the jacuzzi that is located outside, 4 condos down from 104, you share with the other condos, it's 3 feet high with no handicap access. Meaning you climb in and out, no stairs, no ramp into it. Ok. I am tempted to ask the young snowboarders from next door if their runs to the jacuzzi has anything to do with the cold shower issue. We fell in love with Rockaway Beach and this area of town, so I hope this place is Fixed. Podunk style Condos - have a heater that works and hot water for all guests and all amenities that work, but perhaps not a panoramic view like this, and cost half of the price. There is no VALUE ... Cost for what you get ... when the Basics don't work. So, this place is well OVERPRICED. My friend's dad second home, a million dollars ocean front modern huge house with panoramic views, rents for $350 a night for 6 Master Bedrooms in the Shalishan lodge area, in a locked private drive. While I can't Yelp it because it doesn't rent to the public, I can tell you, it's a dream house. The Brookhaven is a gorgeous 2-bedroom Condo style townhouse, one attached to the other, stairways up to the different apartments, shared hallway entries, etc. It's a great fortress structural building, ready to take on a tsunami or a real World Z war... In comparison, the million dollar house, has more value for the money you pay. It's private, the amenities are private, and the heater and hot water work in unison. Offer and advertise awesomeness, then stick to it, and provide awesomeness. Don't freeze me in the winter, and make me take cold showers! Don't make climb up the stairs when I use a wheelchair. Fix your amenities!!! Make what you charge, a great value.

The gas fireplace…read moredidn't work (no propane), the back porch lights and outlets were out, making it unsafe to use the hot tub or get to the firepit at night. We reported everything -- maintenance came, confirmed the issues, but nothing was fixed and no one followed up. I emailed Vacasa twice with no response. For the price we paid, we expected a safe and functional space. Wouldn't book with them again based on this experience.
