Given the circumstances we're living with in 2020, I honestly didn't think I would get the chance to safely travel again for a couple of years. So when a family member approached me and asked me if I wanted to stay at this inn, I was surprised; but, after learning more, I excitedly said yes. This was the right decision and led to a fantastic and relaxing weekend away from the city. This nature inn sits in Bald Eagle State Park and has 16 guest rooms, a handful of meeting room/library spaces, and is absolutely beautiful. The rooms on one side of the inn overlook a lake, with the other side facing a cluster of trees. My relative and I ended up facing the trees, but we were totally fine with that - especially since the fall foliage was starting to set in. We were on the 2nd floor, so we were able to enjoy the view from a private balcony throughout the weekend; it looked like the 1st floor rooms had little patios instead, so no matter what, guest rooms have some sort of outdoor seating. Normally, guests would all be able to enjoy a communal patio and fire pit here. Granted, some other guests (as it appeared that a large group came here together) did go ahead and enjoy this space. My relative and I did not because avoiding people is a must these days, but still, what we saw of these spaces looked great. Definitely something to remember for the future. Speaking of avoiding people - it's 2020, so naturally, my relative and I were focused on what the inn is doing to protect guests. The answer is, plenty! Cleaning and sanitizing the inn is a big thing, naturally. The small size of the inn definitely helps, as it's not particularly big and doesn't lend itself to the gathering of huge crowds. Masks are a must and for the most part, this rule was adhered to; I passed by a couple of guests that I think just forgot theirs momentarily, but staff definitely took the rule seriously. Their dining room is currently closed - all meals are prepped and offered as take-out or delivery. Fortunately, the rooms include a fridge, so it was super easy for my relative and me to bring snacks and store our leftovers so that we were stocked and well-fed all weekend. Also, while you can request items that you need for your room, daily turn-down service is not happening right now - that way, only guests are in their rooms during their stay. The result was that I felt extremely relaxed while I was in the inn, knowing that my space and health was being respected and taken seriously. A couple of notes - the mattresses here were admittedly very hard and uncomfortable, and while they didn't ruin our stay, it's still nice to have my comfy soft bed back. I don't really hold this against the inn though since, frankly, I think all hotel beds are uncomfortable by default. Speaking of things I don't hold against them - this is a nature inn, so you better expect some of the local wildlife to try to get into your room. When I first opened my balcony door some stinkbugs fell onto me because they had gathered around the door frame - whoops! The good news is that the door itself was very well sealed, so the little jerks couldn't get in when the door was closed. Again, I don't hold that against the inn at all, seeing as it's set right in a state park. Still, I think it's fair to remind other guests and readers that when you visit a nature park, you better be ready to experience everything nature throws at you. My husband and I held our rehearsal dinner here in September 2018 and were blown away at the facilities and the service! From the very beginning, the event planner was extremely helpful during the planning stages. We were able to utilize the indoor event space as well as the outdoor patio for our cocktail hour. The views from the back deck are stunning and perfect for any nature lovers looking to hold an event. The food was 5/5 stars in our opinion as well. We will definitely use this facility again for any future events we hold in the area. read more

This completely secluded hidden gem is one of the most beautiful places I've ever stayed at. It is so intimate....only 16 guest rooms. The view is absolutely breathtaking. Private balconies overlook a lake that goes on for what seems like miles. The resort features lots of "green" amenities, the most interesting to me of which was the rainwater harvesting system and the energy monitoring system located in each room. There is also a lovely beach not even a mile down the road and tons of hiking trails, some of which are accessible right from the front of the building so you don't have to drive to enjoy a nice walk in the woods. Last but not least I can't forget the amazing complementary hot breakfast buffet. Eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, fresh blueberry pancakes, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt parfait and so much more! The Nature Inn is amazing, breathtaking, overwhelming to say the least. We found this gem while camping at Bald Eagle State Park. The Inn was built on the highest point in the State Park with beautiful views of Foster Joseph Sawyer Lake. The Inn was designed and build with green technology in mind without losing elegant and charm. This modern inn, unique to Pennsylvania's park system, focuses on outdoor recreation and stewardship, making maximum use of green building technologies, while serving as a premier interpretive facility for bird watching. The rooms are fantastic! Balcony's with a table and chairs to enjoy your morning coffee. Super comfortable beds, large bathrooms, refrigerator, microwave and coffee machine. WiFi, Flat Screen TV's with Dish, DVD players and Alarm clocks w IPod adaptor. Plenty of closet space and storage for gear. A breakfast buffet was included on the weekends. Tree Frog Organic Coffee, Fresh Fruit, Homemade Bakery Goods and several hot dishes were offered. Great way to start off a day of hiking or biking. During our stay they also hosted a New Years Eve Gourmet Dinner. I don't even know where to start. This place is nestled in the middle of Bald Eagle State Park. I never knew about it until I received the wedding invite that led me there today. The first thing you notice is the view. It is simply beautiful. It overlooks the Howard Dam lake. It is quiet and serene. The grounds are immaculately kept, while retaining a natural "leave no trace" appearance. This venue is also equality minded. The wedding today was between two of my very good friends, and they got the exemplary service that any heterosexual couple would have received. The food was the best reception food I have ever eaten in my life. Stuffed Chicken Breasts, pork loin, twice baked potatoes, fresh green beans with almonds... Absolutely fantastic. Every single employee we came in touch with was every thing you could ask for. Rarely will I go someplace and not find SOMETHING wrong with it. This place I couldn't do that. It, from a guest's point of view was perfection. If you are in Central PA and looking for a wedding venue, (gay or straight) a hotel room, or a good meal, this place will not disappoint you. read more

I like to think about the Nature Inn when I'm having a bad day. It's one-of-a-kind, breathtaking, and utterly amazing inn. The nature inn feels like escaping reality, just for a little while. It's located inside of Bald Eagle State Park so you are surrounded by gorgeous mountains, trees, and a lake. It takes your breath away. From the moment you drive up, it has the feel of a beautiful cabin like lodge. Upon entering, the building it's a gorgeous lobby with wood furniture and a welcoming smile at the front desk. Walk through the lobby and it leads to a little outdoor area with seating, a fire pit, grill, and the opportunity to look at the natural beauty. Walking upstairs you'll find an adorable reading room with books, games and movies. The rooms are very simple. But in the best possible way. Each room has a doorway that leads to a patio overlooking either the forest or the lake. Lake view rooms are a bit more. But I say they are worth it. Don't get me wrong, forest room views are also gorgeous. I've stayed in both. However, you will be astounded at the beauty of the lake view room. The breakfast here is also amazing. Like it's not your typical free hotel breakfast. Its GOOOODDD. Like get two plates good haha and it has an elegant feel to it. Here are some tips I'd like to give to any traveler considering the nature inn :) * Book early! You will be shocked at how quickly rooms fill up. I usually book about 6 months in advance. Sometimes even earlier for nicer times of year such as summer. * stay during the off- season if you're on a budget! Rates are almost half the cost! You'll have a nice time. You won't be able to do as many outdoor activities but it'll have a nice cozy feel to it and there's some nice local restaurants you can check out like The Hublersburg Inn. *Don't skip the breakfast. So good! * Don't bring the kids. I would not recommend the nature inn for someone who has young kids. It's definitely a romantic place and it's not the kind of place that has a lot of activities for kids. Most people who stay here are couples. I think it's important to keep that charming aspect. (Sorry people with kids haha) * Walk the trails! There's so many gorgeous trails to walk through and aren't worth missing * This place is the perfect place for anyone who loves to fish! My boyfriend and I love to fish so we always bring our fishing rods and leave them in the car and do quick walk to all of the fun fishing spots! * Boat rentals! Although, I haven't, I know they have a lot of cool boats and kayaks for rent in the warmer months. This is a cool touch and run by the park. * boxed lunches! The nature inn has lunches you can buy and take with you. You can order them and they will be ready for you to take on your fun day! Please note though you cannot buy dinner there. But like I said earlier, there's lots of restaurant options within a 15- 20 minute drive. I hope this helps anyone considering staying at the nature inn. The Nature Inn at Bald Eagle recently opened on Sept. 2, 2010. With great fortune, my husband and I ran across their website while trying to find a hotel somewhere near the middle of Pennsylvania (and just off of I-80). The facilities are new, beautiful and Eco-friendly, and the staff was super friendly. We didn't have much time to explore the outside premises (Bald Eagle State Park), as we arrived late in the evening and had to leave semi-early the next (rainy) morning. The location is beautiful and the floor-to-ceiling windows showcase the lovely views of the lake. The continental breakfast was delicious, and they also offer boxed lunches available for purchase (perfect for those who plan to go hiking through the park). We're looking forward to returning sometime in the near future to explore more of the park! read more

What a great facility! I booked this facility for a training session for a group of 20 plus about 11 instructors. The main room (has a fireplace) was an excellent classroom and worked well for our training needs. Jessica and Charlie worked hard to make sure our group's needs were accommodated and enjoyable. The lunch was outstanding with plenty to go around for the group. Prices for the lunch were comparable to a local caterer. The seats were comfortable and the room worked well for PowerPoint presentations. The group also stayed on site and felt very comfortable in the rooms. It was a great way to unwind after a day of training to go out for a walk in the park or do some geocaching. It's also convenient enough that the group could go into State College or Bellefonte for dinner. The inn staff could do dinner for a group if needed. Breakfast is awesome and varies each day. I highly recommend this for business retreats, meetings, or training sessions. There is even a breakout room upstairs in the library. Charges were reasonable for the accommodations as well. This is the best inn I've ever stayed at. It's a true getaway. Located and managed by the state park system, it's surrounded by quiet, peaceful, beautiful nature. This is a great place for bird enthusiasts; each room is given complimentary binoculars and a bird identification book. There is also a bird-tracking kiosk in the lobby of the hotel. The beds are super comfy and clean, and there are shampoo and shower gel dispensers in the shower. The bathtub is well-sized and great for baths. We got a lake-view room with a balcony that overlooked a stunning vista. The breakfast was great, and the inn also offers boxed lunches for an additional charge. My husband and I ordered a few of those to last us through lunch/dinner and they were good. There are lots of great trails surrounding the inn that kept us occupied for hours. There are also a couple common spaces throughout the inn: a cozy library, a dining room with a fireplace and complimentary coffee and tea, and a small reading/play area for children. I found these spaces helpful for getting work done on my laptop. This inn is just a real treasure and I'm so glad we found it. read more

Like others, I can't say enough good about the Nature Inn at Bald Eagle State Park. It makes me proud to be from Pennsylvania that the Commonwealth would build such a beautiful, cutting-edge Inn filled with energy efficient technology, local woods and furnishings and beautiful adornments. Rooms are comfortable, luxurious, tasteful, with gorgeous views of the surroundings. The park is great for hikes and all sorts of water sports (though we were there in winter). Charlie's staff is generous, caring, helpful and knowledgable. The breakfasts (which you choose from a large menu in advance) is delicious and ample. How soon can we return!!!??? read more

What an amazing place to stay! You will not believe you are in a state park, but you will decide that every state park should have a lodge like this. The decor is modern but all the furniture is wood giving it quite a rustic feel. Every room has a pair of binoculars but you can check out a birding backpack for free at the front desk that includes adult and kids binoculars plus several guide books. Bald eagles are nesting directly across the river and we saw one around dinner time. Leed gold certified and you can see how much energy you are using: turn your lights off! There are puzzles and games for the kids as well as nature books for the grown ups. The included hot breakfast was very nice and featured delicious homemade fruit granola yogurt parfaits and yummy French toast plus very good coffee. The staff is very friendly and makes the food themselves. The only disappointment was we couldn't find the kids nature center, and even though we came the last weekend in March the birds hadn't come back from down south yet. We saw a few bluebirds, robins, crows and three deer at dusk. read more
